Notice: Gives recommendations for better handling of the Unit during operation or adjustment as well as for service activities. 1.2 For Your Safety For safe and successful operation of the Unit, read these instructions completely. If the instructions are not observed, the manufacturer can assume no responsibility. Be sure to retain this manual for future reference. Do not use the Unit to extract easily flammable or explosive gases. Do not use the Unit to extract corrosive substances. Do not expose the connecting cable to heat, oil, or sharp edges. Make sure the Unit stands stable and secure. Use only original equipment filters. Do not operate the Unit without filter inserts. Contaminants in the extracted air will damage the blower. Always disconnect the power supply before servicing the Unit. Never cover intake or exhaust openings. Observe general safety regulations for the handling of chemicals such as Loctite adhesives and sealants. Observe the manufacturer s instructions as stated in the Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS). While under warranty, the Unit may be repaired only by an authorized Loctite service representative. 1.3 Unpacking and Inspection Carefully unpack the Loctite Bench Top Air Filtration System and examine the items contained in the carton. Inspect the Unit for any damage that might have occurred in transit. If such damage has occurred, notify the carrier immediately. Claims for damage must be made by the consignee to the carrier and should be reported to the manufacturer. 1

This fume extraction system specifically designed for portability and performance. This Unit meets the needs of both single users and today s fast paced, flexible manufacturing. The Loctite Bench Top Air Filtration System consists of a 12" wide (300 mm) plenum, or an optional 50mm arm and nozzle. A deep bed carbon filter is used for light duty organic solvent and adhesive applications. 2. Description 2.1 Operating Elements and Construction 1. On/off Switch 2. 5 2. Description (continued) 2.2 Theory of Operation The Loctite Air Filtration products are designed to effectively remove and filter fumes generated on the assembly workbench. For use in light duty organic solvent and adhesive applications, a deep bed, activated carbon filter is recommended. A dual stage prefilter is provided to retain the large particles that can reduce filter efficiency and life. Place the plenum in front of the work area where fume extraction is necessary. Plug the system in and turn on. Fumes will be collected through the opening at the bottom of the plenum. Impurities are then removed in the filter and clean air returned to the envioirment. If you need the flexibility to move the fume collection device to the source of the fume, the Loctite Bench Top Air Filtration System easily converts for use with an arm. Make sure the system is off and unplugged. Slide the adapter into the plenum until it stops and secure it to the top of the plenum with the lock. Insert the cuffed end of the arm into the adapter. Adjust the arm as needed. 2.3 Blocked Filter LED Indicator When the Unit is operating properly, the LED indicator will illuminate green. If the prefilter becomes clogged, the LED light will change orange, indicating a blocked filter. The prefilter and /or the main filter should be replaced until light returns to green (see Filtration). The LED indicator will not turn orange when gas filter is saturated. Prefilters should be replaced three to five times as frequently as the carbon filter. The carbon filter life will be dependent upon the amount of gas vapor in the air stream. 2.4 No Filter Safety Interlock The safety interlock is a switch that prevents the system from operating while open and with no filter. The safety feature keeps the blower from operating when the Unit is open to replace filters, and it prevents the system from contamination if operation is attempted without filter. 3. 6 4. Installation Remove the Loctite Bench Top Air Filtration System from packing materials and place on workbench where fume extortion is necessary. Plug the power outlet into the outlet on the back of the system. Plug the power cord into a grounded wall socket. Warning! To provide protection against the risk of electrical shock, connect only to properly grounded outlets. To power the system, click the power switch, located on the top left of the Unit, to the 1 position. The LED light will illuminate green when system is on. There is a 3-second delay, or a soft start, from the time the switch is activated till the LED turns to green. This enhances the performance of the electronics and overall life of the blower motor. If you plan on using the Unit with an arm, install the arm prior to powering the system. Test the Blocked Filter LED indicator to assure proper operation by blocking the front of the hose or plenum. If operating properly, the LED should change from green to orange. Once you are familiar with operating the system, you can choose your preference of plenum or arm operation. 5. Maintenance and Cleaning 5.1 Filter Unit - Maintenance and Safety The Loctite Bench Top Air Filtration System is designed with low maintenance in mind. The housing is aluminum finished with a high quality ESD safe powered coat paint. The plenum and arm are ESD-safe plastic. Here are a few tips to keep your system running in top shape: 1. To clean, use a light wipe with a gentle cleaner to prevent build up of particulate and flux residue (be sure Unit is turned off while cleaning). 2. Do not block the exhaust outlets; this will cause the operating temperature of the system to rise, potentially damaging the Unit, and reduce performance. 3. Do not disable the filter interlock switch. Running the system without a filter will allow particulate and flux residue to adhere to the blower and decrease the life of the system and increase noise. 4. Be sure to handle filters appropriately. 5. Do not lift system while operating. 5.2 Filter Replacement A clogged filter will reduce the performance of your system. The Loctite Bench Top Air Filtration System monitors the airflow of the system and the LED will change from green to orange when the filter is clogged. The Unit will continue to operate, but failure to promptly replace the filter may result in premature failure of the system. Replacement of filter: 1. Turn the Unit off. 2. Disconnect the power cord from the outlet on the system. 3. Unlatch the housing from the plenum. 4. Remove housing from the plenum. 5. Replace the filter. 6. Replace housing on filter and lock. 7. Reconnect power cord and turn system on. 8. If the LED is still orange, refer to Troubleshooting. 4

7 5. Maintenance and Cleaning (continued) 5.3 Filter disposal The gas filter collects some organic materials. Care in disposal may be required. The filter may contain toxic materials. Inhalation of dust particles or exposure to skin must be avoided. Please consult the MSDS s for the material used at your facility and follow the prescribed handling instructions. Notice: Always use a new replacement filter! 6. Warranty Henkel Loctite expressly warrants that all products referred to in this Instruction Manual for and Loctite Benchtop Air Filtration System (hereafter called Products ), shall be free from defects in materials and workmanship. Liability for Henkel Loctite shall be limited, at its option, to replacing those Products which are shown to be defective in either materials or workmanship or to credit the purchaser the amount of the purchase price therefor (plus freight and insurance charges paid therefor by the user). The purchaser s sole and exclusive remedy for breach of warranty shall be such replacement or credit. A claim of defect in materials or workmanship in any Products shall be allowed only when it is submitted in writing within one month after discovery of the defect or after the time the defect should reasonably have been discovered and in any event, within (12) months after the delivery of the Products to the purchaser. This warranty does not apply to perishable items, such as fuses, filters, lights, ect. No such claim shall be allowed in respect of products which have been neglected or improperly stored, transported, handled, installed, connected, operated, used, or maintained. In the event of unauthorized modification of the Products including, where products, parts, or attachments for use in connection with the Products are available from Henkel Loctite, the use of products, parts, or attachments which are not manufactured by Henkel Loctite, no claim shall be allowed. No Products shall be returned to Henkel Loctite for any reason without prior written approval from Henkel Loctite. Products shall be returned freight prepaid, in accordance with instructions from Henkel Loctite.
