Many features of the successful 900 Vario were combined with new technical innovations. The result is a highly mobile all-rounder with compact dimensions, which is equally well suited for large farms, contractors and non-agricultural applications. 4 ... with a versatile range of applications Field - superior traction The 800 Vario offers tyre options up to 2050 mm diameter, is optimally designed for the use of dual tyres and has high hydraulic lift capacities, large payload reserves and a tailor-made ballasting system. This guarantees trouble-free operations in the field, whether working with a mounted plough, cultivator, disc harrow or implement combinations. Row crop work - in large scale operations The 800 Vario shows its potential in row crop and fertilising work on large farms and in cooperatives. High ground clearance, optimised manoeuvrability and tailor-made operating options permit row crop work to be performed without compromises, especially with large working widths. Transport - superior performance Perfect 900 Vario driving dynamics starting at 200 hp: 3-point cab suspension, four-wheel braking system and Fendt Stability Control FSC for unique road handling, as well as the reactive steering system ensure safe straight-ahead driving. That makes the 800 Vario the perfect transport tractor. Engine speed at 60 km/h has been lowered further: that means 20% greater transport capacity compared to 50 km/h machines. 6 New Tier IV interim engine generation the technology of tomorrow today Catalytic converter Metering module AdBlue filler neck The 800 Vario tractors are powered by new 6-cylinder engines from the 2012 range from Deutz. Through SCR technology they already comply with the emissions standard Stage 3b (Tier 4 interim) today. These engines have been uncompromisingly designed for use with the Fendt Vario transmission. Common rail injection in combination with SCR catalytic converter technology permits compliance with emissions standard Stage 3b (Tier 4 interim). The emissions standards that apply to tractors are determined according to engine performance. The current and pending emissions regulations as well as the beginning date of validity are shown in the diagram. Decisive here are the emissions of mobile off-highway vehicles, to which agricultural tractors belong. The limits for diverse pollutants (CO, HC, NOx) and particulate matter in exhaust become stricter from stage to stage. What does Selective Catalytic Reduction mean? SCR (Selective Catalytic Reduction) stands for the reduction of nitrogen oxides in exhaust through ammonia in the form of an aqueous 32.5% urea solution. The industry calls this solution AdBlue and it is available almost all over. The solution is injected into the exhaust line downstream of the SCR catalytic converter. Ammonia (NH3) and carbon dioxide (CO2) are created through the hydrolysis of the urea-water solution. This ammonia reacts with the nitro- 6

7 Engine gen oxides in a special SCR catalytic converter to create nitrogen and water. The consumption of AdBlue lies at up to 5% of the used diesel, depending on the raw emission of the engine. The auxiliary tank for AdBlue is located directly behind the engine and is integrated in the halfframe (32-l capacity). During normal operations, one tankful of AdBlue is enough for approx. 640 litres of diesel. Advantages of SCR technology Separation of engine timing and exhaust aftertreatment -> engine can be set for 100% optimisation of fuel consumption. The exhaust is treated afterwards. That reduces the specific fuel consumption of the 800 Vario by another 5% to 192g/kWh. A fully maintenance-free system, only urea needs to be refilled. Active control of the Fendt system, since the NOx content is measured both downstream and upstream of the SCR catalytic converter. Compared with the alternative system comprising a diesel particulate filter (DPF) and exhaust gas recirculation (AGR) there are further advantages: With SCR, the temperature of the cylinder can be increased for better combustion. At the same time, heat exits the tractor via the exhaust line, which lowers the cooling requirement and reduces power loss. The SCR system lowers the cooling requirement by 20%, which reduces wear on material and lowers fuel consumption. A regeneration process is mandatory for diesel particulate filter systems. This increases diesel consumption by another 2-5%. This extra fuel consumption is not required with SCR. Furthermore, no sulphur gases collect in the exhaust line. It is clearly the most economical alternative. Electronic engine control Engine control is perfectly adapted to the operating status, allowing the best possible utilisation of the engine while reducing fuel consumption, which optimises the overall profitability of the tractor. Two frequently used engine speeds can be saved. Fuel consumption display in the Varioterminal for economical work and constant cost monitoring. Electronic components that do not wear guarantee constant precision over the entire service life. Integrated diagnostics ensure that down-times are minimised New cooling system Completely new in-line cooling system with flat floor. All cooler modules were enlarged in comparison with the previous range. The 800 Vario stands for the best cooling performance and optimum access for cleaning. The cooler unit comprises a radiator, intercooler and transmission oil cooler. The hydraulic oil is cooled by the return from the transmission oil cooler. That means there is one cooler less in the front under the bonnet and the others can be made larger and more powerful. There is always plenty of cooling capacity available, even during heavy-duty operations. This highly efficient space-saving system also promotes fast warming during cold-starts, and therefore reduces losses. Intelligent transmission oil cooling Transmission cooling is electronically controlled. The oil passes along the cooler through an overflow valve until it reaches an optimum temperature. Advantages of this system: The optimum transmission oil temperature is reached faster Improved efficiency after starting, especially in the partial load range of the machine Visctronic for optimum fan speed The viscous clutch ensures the electronically controlled fan is controlled according to need Each cooler can control the fan separately and can therefore cover its cooling requirements optimally. The fan power requirement has been lowered, Large-sized in-line cooling system under the one-piece wide-opening bonnet. 1,210 Nm torque, max. 280 hp at 1900 rpm and a specific fuel consumption of 192 g/kw for the 828 Vario, thanks to implementation of the latest technology. 8

9 Engine which lowers the noise level and reduces the amount of dirt in the cooler Visctronic boosts the efficiency of the entire cooling system, which in turn lowers fuel consumption. New optimised air intake The 800 Vario range has a new flow-optimised air intake. The short intake path ensures an optimum air supply. The new air filter system has improved precleaning and a longer filter life. Electronically controlled wastegate turbocharger: The new electronically controlled wastegate turbocharger ensures that the optimum charge-air pressure is always available over a broad speed range. Map-controlled charge-air pressure is adapted to the power requirements of the engine. Large fuel tank A 505-l fuel tank capacity along with low fuel consumption permits long working days without refuelling, even under extreme conditions. The urea tank is integrated in the frame, which saves space for the diesel supply. The shape of the tank is designed to allow large wheel angles and full use of dual tyres. Bio-diesel (RME) All Fendt tractors have been approved for use with biodiesel (RME) since Paint and fuel lines, as well as their seals, are resistant against aggressive biodiesel. Shorter engine oil servicing intervals and more frequent monitoring of the fuel filter are necessary. The ML 200 transmission has the same basic design and the same functional principle behind it as all the Vario transmissions from Fendt. Since it was first presented at the Agritechnica in 1995, this design principle has been further improved and refined, but remains fundamentally unchanged. According to the motto: make the best even better. With over 100,000 Vario transmissions in operation every day, Fendt has gathered a wealth of experience in series production. This means operational reliability for our customers. Efficient drive technology The Vario transmission is a power split hydraulicmechanical drive, which boasts exceptional efficiency. The main reason behind this is the swing angle of the hydrostats and the operating pressure. Due to their design, conventional hydrostats only have a swing angle of 30 and there is no seal between the piston and cylinder, so that a higher operating pressure is not possible. The significantly higher efficiency of the Fendt hydrostats is based on a 45 swing angle; piston rings permit operating pressure to be increased to 550 bar. That reduces the load on the radiator and oil. Through the excellent efficiency of the Fendt hydrostatics, transmission oil only needs to be changed every 2000 hours. Furthermore, no special oil is required. 10

11 Transmission Power splitting the key to success A planetary gear set at the transmission input side distributes engine power variably to the mechanical and hydrostatic transmission branch. With increasing speed, the share of the power transmitted through the hydrostatic branch decreases. At maximum speed, engine power output is transmitted entirely through the mechanical branch. The engine therefore has excellent efficiency at high travel speeds. Easy control In the Vario transmission changing transmission ratio, and therefore the driving speed, is accomplished by changing the swing angle of the axial piston unit. When the shaft is rotated, the control valves are actuated, which in turn swing the axial piston units out, back or in the opposite direction (reverse travel). The entire actuation process is purely mechanical. The control of the valves for the clutch function through the accelerator pedal is hydraulic. An electromechanical drive specifies a ratio setpoint value by rotating the actuator shaft, the pump and hydro motor are swung accordingly. Further advantages of Vario ML 200: The transmission housing has noise damping measures (ribbed construction) which provide the necessary rigidity. This allows the transmission to be flanged directly onto the half-frame. Two speed ranges are available (I and II) for different kinds of applications, high efficiency is therefore always possible. Auxiliary transmission control: if required, the ratio can also be adjusted mechanicallyhydraulically. 12 Rear and front PTO convenience for pros The 800 Vario has a two-speed rear PTO, a front PTO is optional. The decisive advantage of the Fendt system lies in its use with the stepless Vario transmission - it enables constant PTO speeds at variable ground speeds. The front and rear PTO on the 800 Vario can be conveniently operated with a yellow pushbutton in the power lift module and are electrohydraulically engaged. In addition to the engine speed, both PTO speeds are displayed in the instrument cluster. Easy to operate rear PTO The standard two-speed rear PTO on the 800 Vario is available in 2 versions: 540E / 1000 or 1000 / 1000E External rear PTO controls on the mudguard The selected rated PTO speed (1000) is already attained at an engine speed of 1900 rpm. PTOdriven implements can be operated economically in the optimum efficiency range of the engine. With the economy PTO (540E / 1000E), the standardised speeds (540 / 1000) are always attained at a fuel-saving 1580 engine rpm. Driven directly through the transmission, leads to high efficiency at the PTO. The connection between the crankshaft and the PTO stub only requires one gear step. External controls for the rear PTO on mudguards on both sides PTO speeds are selected on the membrane keypad on the armrest, all PTO speeds are taken from one stub. In the neutral position (0), the PTO stub axle can be rotated freely, even when the engine is running. Integral front PTO with 1000 min -1 12

13 PTO Flanged PTO To meet the requirements of different implements, the 800 Varios can be equipped with a flanged PTO. The following stub profiles can be used: 1 3/8 6-part splined profile 1 3/4 6-part splined profile 1 3/8 20-part evolvent profile 1 3/8 21-part evolvent profile Integral front PTO All 800 Vario can be equipped with an optional Fendt front PTO. The front PTO speed is 1000 min -1. The front PTO works in the same direction of rotation as the rear PTO (i.e. clockwise, viewed in the direction of travel) Direct power flow from the engine crankshaft results in higher efficiency Wet multi-disc clutch: even heavy implements are driven without jerking Large-sized multi-disc clutch: full engine power can be transferred while dealing with any shock loads that may arise. The drive shaft acts in a straight line, so there is no wear or loss of efficiency. It is possible to retrofit the front PTO or front hydraulics on all the 800 Vario tractors. Fendt advantages: PTO automatic: when actuating the front and rear linkage, the PTO can also be engaged automatically. (Profi and ProfiPlus version) Analogous to the rear PTO, start-up control (electronic load-dependent speed regulation) ensures smooth start-up with heavy implements. Drivers can calibrate the start-up control. The heart of the hydraulic system, an axial piston displacement pump, supplies all the consumers, such as steering, rear and front power lift and the electric auxiliary control units. Features of the hydraulic system are: Customers can select between different delivery capacities for the control pumps (109 l/min, 152 l/min or 193 l/min). Thus a high variety of options are available with outstanding hydraulic performance values (see diagram). The displacement pump operates according to the pressure and oil quantity requirements of Axial piston hydraulic pump in intermediate housing 109 l/min (option: 152 or 193 l/min) all consumers. Max. oil pressure 200 bar High volume of available oil, 80 l, is also enough for large consumers Separate transmission and hydraulic oil supplies prevents oil from mixing Even at low engine speed there is a high volume of oil available, which, for example, guarantees a fast lifting speed of the rear power lift. The high oil delivery volume of the pump allows up to 8 auxiliary control units, the power beyond connection and the front and rear power lift to be supplied simultaneously, independent of each other. The diagram shows which engine speed is available at which pump capacity and thus which flow rate can be attained. 14

15 Hydraulics Electric auxiliary control valves Electric proportional auxiliary control valves (Bosch SB23 EHS2 - valves with CAN control) The 800 Vario is only fitted with double-acting electric proportional valves that can also be operated in single-acting mode. All valves (max. 6 da valves rear and max. 2 da valves front) are arranged at the rear of the tractor. Compact design provides excellent access, high flow rates are possible. Easy, and convenient controls, integrated in armrest and joystick The operating location of the valves can be assigned freely in the Varioterminal: 1) Proportional via the crossgate lever or with the linear module in the armrest or 2) black/white on the joystick. All valves have flow rate control (though spool setting) and are fitted with floating position and can therefore be adjusted for each consumer. The most important settings for the auxiliary hydraulic valves are displayed in the main menu on the terminal. After selecting a valve, adjustments can be made using the rotary control: variable valve assignment, response, time function, oil volume setting,... Flow rate can be adjusted from litres in the Varioterminal, the number shown corresponds to the litres. An optional valve in the 4th position with a flow rate of 140 l is available. Every auxiliary control unit can be promoted to a priority valve with the push of a button. Oil motors can be run without a problem, since their oil supply can be secured by prioritising the motor. 16 Working hydraulics functional description External operation of a hydraulic control unit Hydraulic control units 1-6 can be operated externally via the pushbuttons on the rear light bracket. The valve is selected in the Varioterminal. Functional criteria for external control: The valves are only actuated as long as the pushbutton is pressed Rear external controls have priority over the selected settings on the control console or multi-function armrest The hydraulic oil flow volume is fixed at approx. 30 l/min Power beyond connection with patented control pressure increase The 800 Vario can be optionally equipped with a hydraulic connection for pump control via an external control line. Rotating connection with a total of 14 lead-throughs Fendt development, no compromises in operation and comfort. The compressed air system is required for the reversing driver station, the entire driver station is rotated 180 with pneumatic assistance. All operating elements are turned along with the station, so that the driver can drive forward or reverse with the same degree of comfort. The armrest can be adapted optimally to the height of the driver and moves together with the driver seat. This allows trouble-free operation of all functions and unrestricted visibility, even while driving. Special emphasis was placed on the optimum ergonomic placement of all operating elements. 23 Driver station Sturdy design of terminal Both terminals have a rugged high-quality housing and are can be used from -40 C to +85 C. The touch-sensitive screen has a scratch-proof, anti-glare surface. The brightness of the screen is adjusted automatically. For the operation, the focus was on maintaining the well-proven Fendt logic; a high recognition factor allows Fendt customers to find their way around intuitively, without requiring much instruction. Thanks to the larger screen, the number of terminal pages has been reduced compared to previous terminals. The use of plain text in the individual menu pages guarantees easy navigation. Driving Vario with individualised controls In order to meet the needs of different drivers and operating situations equally, there are two ways to drive the 800 Vario: You will find further information on the new Fendt electronic components in the new "Fendt Variotronic Product Guide" and in the Operating Manual. The driver controls the engine speed with the accelerator and the transmission ratio with the joystick. 23

24 Driving Vario in the newest dimension Driving with the optional automatic/electronic engine control (TMS): the driver only sets the speed, TMS automatically sets the required engine speed and the matching transmission ratio. Starting from standstill To start from standstill, move the joystick in the desired direction of travel (forward: push lever forward; reverse: pull lever back) and press the activation key briefly. To decelerate, move the joystick in the opposite direction. Multi-function joystick for operating the transmission functions. Selecting acceleration rate With the thumb switch on the side of the joystick, four different acceleration rates can be selected at any time while driving. In rate I, the amount the speed changes when the joystick is moved once, can be set from 0.02 km/h to 0.5 km/h. Rate II is fixed at 0.5 km/h, Rate III at 1.0 km/h and Rate IV at 2 km/h (applies to rated engine speed of 2100 rpm). Thumb switch to select acceleration rate. Changing direction The 800 Vario offers two options for reversing travel direction: Finely controlled reversing In forward travel, pull the joystick back until the tractor stops, depress the activating key and pull the joystick back again. Automated direction-changing Pressing the rocker switch on the reverser on the steering column. A programmed reversing procedure is started while driving. The vehicle decelerates to a standstill and then accelerates in the opposite direction of travel (it is also possible to reverse using the joystick: move joystick to the left with the activation key pressed). 25 Driver station Stop & Go Function If the rocker switch on the reversing lever on the steering column is kept pressed, the tractor slows down to a standstill; when it is released, the tractor travels in the direction the rocker switch was pressed. There is no wear on the transmission. In contrast to other transmission concepts, no powershift or shuttle clutches are required. 26 Chassis design concept with exceptional manoeuvrability A new drive train in the rear axle for the best efficiency A completely new drive train has been developed for the rear axle of the 800 Varios. The key elements are the new braking system and the innovative forced feed lubrication. Innovative rear axle HA 220 A new rear axle, designed for high bearing loads and traction, was developed for the 200 hp to 280 hp power range. It features forced feed lubrication. That clearly improves efficiency. Lubrication oil bores lead to all axle bearings and supply them with oil. A low level of oil in the rear axle housing reduces no-load losses and fuel consumption. Vario transmission and rear axle have a common oil supply, reduced losses through shared thin oil. No special oil is required for the final drives. Fendt Stability Control (FSC) The suspension system on the 800 Vario was designed to accommodate the anti-roll control FSC (Fendt Stability Control). At speeds above 20 km/h, FSC locks the compensation between the right and left sides and takes steering precision, driving stability and braking safety to a completely new level. This is especially noticeable in curves, since the axle does not swing free. If the driving speed drops below 15 km/h again, compensation between the left and right side is possible. But it is a necessity wherever the precise depth control of mounted implements is concerned, for example for work with a front cultivator. The Fendt front axle suspension can be activated and locked from the driver stand. Whether or not the suspension is enabled or locked, the front axle can still swing, i.e. there are no disadvantages in adapting to the ground. At speeds above 20 km/h, the suspension is automatically reactivated. Without FSC With FSC Reactive steering system: A special steering valve automatically sets the steering back to straight-ahead driving when the steering wheel is released, e.g. when negotiating a curve. This ensures better straight-ahead driving at fast speeds on the road. 27
