12 Cartridges Torit-Built ilter Cartridges The use of Torit-Built filters is essential for optimal performance of your Donaldson Torit dust, fume, and mist collectors. Our collectors are designed to use proprietary Torit cartridges that provide the highest efficiency and longest filter life for your particular application. The filters are manufactured to meet exacting standards for media efficiency and overall manufacturing quality. By purchasing Torit-Built cartridges, you can be sure that your collector provides the highest levels of environmental protection and regulatory compliance. ilters When to Replace ilter Cartridges recommends a preventive maintenance program, which includes regular monitoring of the pressure drop and periodic observation of the collector's exhaust stream. A key indicator of the need to change filters is an increase in pressure drop above levels recommended in the installation and operation manual (usually 4.5 to 5.5 "wg). ilters should be changed immediately after dust emission or a sudden reduction in airflow. Your sales representative can help you implement a preventive maintenance program and determine the proper interval for filter replacement. Selecting the Correct ilter Cartridge Selecting the right cartridge can be as easy as identifying the filter that was originally installed in your collector. Your sales representative can provide this information, or you can simply read the part number printed on the cartridge end cap. If you have changed your operation, your representative can recommend the best filter for your new requirements. Nanofiber ilter Technology by Donaldson Developed and constantly improved by Donaldson Company, nanofiber technology provides a filtration efficiency up to 0 times greater than conventional filter media under the same operating conditions. This advanced filtration technology enhances filtration efficiency, filter life, and pulse cleaning by bonding a unique layer of submicron diameter fibers to conventional media. This nanofiber web of fibers stops a high proportion of particles less than micron in size on the surface of the filter. Rapid accumulation of particles on the media surface builds a permeable, dust-stopping cake and ensures high filtration efficiency by eliminating premature filter plugging. Similar to a membrane media, this layer of ultra-fine fibers greatly facilitates dust release during the collector s cleaning cycle. Nanofiber technology is available in all Ultra-Web and ibra-web filters. Specialty and Standard Performance ilter Technology In addition to nanofiber filters, also offers specialty and standard performance filters. Specialty filters are designed for applications that require specific filter performance characteristics, such as high temperature, high moisture or mist. Specialty filters include Torit-Tex, Kevlar/Nomex, Thermo-Tek, Dryflo and Vibra Shake filters. While new Donaldson collectors are factoryequipped with premium nanofiber or specialty filters, some customers may choose to use standard performance filters for replacement. Standard performance filters include Ultra-Tek (synthetic), BonDura (spunbond polyester), Endura-Tek (synthetic and cellulose blend) and Cellulex (cellulose) filters

13 Cartridges NANOIBER ILTRATION Ultra-Web ilter Cartridges. Ultra-Web cartridges are specified for all collectors that handle dry, fine, non-fibrous dust. They feature a layer of premium nanofibers bonded to a cellulose substrate. These nanofibers capture dust particles on the surface of the media, from which they are easily released during the pulse-cleaning process. Ultra-Web filters provide the longest filter life and highest filtration efficiency available in a pulse cleaned cartridge. They can be purchased with or without flame retardant media and with or without outer liners. ibra-web ilter Cartridges. ibra-web cartridges are specified in all collectors that handle a combination of fibrous and non-fibrous dust. A layer of nanofibers is applied to a synthetic base media to provide optimal efficiency and pulsecleaning effectiveness on non-fibrous particles. Combining this media with an open pleat design results in thorough pulse-cleaning, long filter life, and excellent filtration efficiency. ibra-web Media Magnified 600x Ultra-Web Nanofiber Media Magnified 600x Ultra-Web EZ ilter Cartridges. Ultra-Web EZ cartridges can be crushed for easy and inexpensive disposal. Soft urethane end caps make it possible to crush the cartridges so that three cartridges can be shipped in a 55-gallon drum. This results in dramatic reductions in the cost of cartridge disposal, especially when the dust and cartridges must be disposed as hazardous waste. The cartridge filter media features the same nanofibers and cellulose substrate used in Ultra-Web cartridges with metal end caps. Nanofiber ilter Cartridges. Donaldson retrofit cartridges feature a special grade of nanofibers and are designed for use in the United Air Specialists (UAS) Dust Hog and Suprablast, MAC Mactiflo, American Air ilters (AA) Optiflo, Pneumafil Paraflo, ARR Tenkay, Wheelabrator, and other brand dust collectors. It is the most efficient cartridge for upgrading existing dust collection systems or improving problem systems. With superior filtration efficiency, nanofiber technology ensures longer filter life at a lower pressure drop. The surface filtration eliminates the need for a primary dust cake, ensuring exceptional particle release. Ultra-Web EZ

14 Cartridges SPECIALTY ILTRATION Torit-Tex ilter Cartridges. Torit-Tex cartridges are specified in all collectors that handle moist, hygroscopic, and agglomerative dust. The cartridges employ state-of-the-art PTE membrane technology. The membrane contains thousands of microscopic fibers that capture dust particles on the surface of the media. The smooth, hydrophobic surface easily releases moist, hygroscopic, and agglomerative particles. The result is long filter life and exceptional efficiency. Torit-Tex CD are conductive cartridges specified in collectors that handle electrostatic charges in addition to other application conditions, such as hygroscopic or agglomerative dusts. All Torit-Tex cartridges feature a PTE membrane that provides high efficiency and excellent dust release, which provides for longer filter life. Torit-Tex HCD are identical to the Torit-Tex CD, except these cartridges can also be specified in collectors operating at temperatures up to (35 C). Torit-Tex Media Magnified 600x Thermo-Tek ilter Cartridges. Thermo-Tek cartridges are specified in all collectors operating in temperatures between 50 and (65-35 C). The proprietary synthetic filter media provides excellent filtration and pulse cleaning characteristics in high temperature applications. Special adhesives and gaskets assure structural integrity and airtight sealing characteristics. Stainless steel Thermo-Tek cartridges are also specified as chemical-tolerant cartridges, and may be applied in high temperature, chemical, and pharmaceutical applications. Caution is appropriate. Either a combination of chemicals or a combination of chemicals with moisture may alter fiber resistance to specified performance levels. Please contact your Donaldson Torit representative with questions about your applications. High-Temperature ilter Cartridges. High-temperature cartridges are specified in all collectors suitable to operate in temperatures up to 350 and dry conditions. The proprietary synthetic media provides highly efficient filtration and pulse-cleaning characteristics in high temperature applications. Special adhesives and gaskets assure structural integrity and airtight sealing characteristics. Temperature limitations pertain to the media and cartridge construction and do not take other collector components into account. Dryflo Mist Collector ilter Cartridges. These cartridges are specified in all Dryflo Mist Collectors. A combination of two proprietary filtration medias removes oil and coolant mists from wet machining operations. The cartridges are effective on straight oils, mineral oils, and water soluble oils, as well as synthetic and semi-synthetic coolants. The Dryflo cartridge is the only mist collector filter that improves its collection efficiency over time. Vibra Shake ilter Cartridges. These cartridges are specified in all Vibra Shake collectors. Their unique design allows for two stages of filtration. The outer stage removes fibrous material and the inner stage removes small non-fibrous particles. A patented diaphragm design separates the two stages during the collector's cleaning cycle, allowing the small non-fibrous particles to drop into the storage container. ilters

15 Cartridges STANDARD PERORMANCE ILTRATION BonDura ilter Cartridges. BonDura cartridges are comprised of 00% calendered spunbond polyester. They feature excellent dust release properties and are a very good choice for surface treatment applications. BonDura cartridges are moisture resistant. Cellulex ilter Cartridges. Cellulex cartridges are a retrofit option in non-fibrous applications. They incorporate a proprietary cellulose media designed to provide long filter life and high efficiency. Their performance is comparable with or superior to, most competitive cartridges that use generic cellulose medias purchased "off the shelf" from industry suppliers. Cellulex cartridges can be purchased with or without flame retardant media. Standard sizes for dust collectors are in stock. Special sizes are also available. BonDura Media Magnified 600x Endura-Tek ilter Cartridges. Endura-Tek cartridges are a retrofit option in many non-fibrous applications. They provide extended filter service life over Cellulex cartridges and high filtration efficiency for applications requiring a conventional, yet more durable and humidity-resistant media. The proprietary blend of cellulose and synthetic fibers in combination with a unique, proprietary resin system presents a media engineered to solve mainstream dust collection problems. Endura-Tek's performance is comparable with, or superior to, most competitive cartridges. It features a generic cellulose/polyester fiber blend media. Endura-Tek cartridges can be purchased with and without flame retardant media. Standard sizes for dust collectors are in stock. Special sizes are also available. Cellulex Media Magnified 600x Ultra-Tek ilter Cartridges. Ultra-Tek cartridges are specified in all collectors that handle fibrous dust. Examples include such applications as woodworking, grain handling, and composite grinding. The open design and wide pleat spacing permits complete removal of fibrous particulate during pulse cleaning. The media incorporates a proprietary blend of synthetic fibers that provide strength, durability, and excellent filtration capabilities. 28 Cartridge Installation Maintenance Tips for Cartridge Dust Collectors. Empty Drums Empty the drum periodically. It should never be more than 3/4 full. Dust should never be allowed to collect in the hopper. Dust in the hopper will be drawn back up to the filters, and it will be difficult to keep them clean.. Monitor Pressure Drop Check the Delta P Control, Magnehelic gauge, or Photohelic gauge on a regular basis. The pressure drop should stabilize between and 4 "wg, depending on the application and system design. Rising pressure drop (after a period of stabilization) indicates a need for filter change. In addition, if the pressure drop exceeds 5 "wg after pulsing, the filters should be changed. 3. Check Pulse Cleaning An adequate volume of 90 psi of moisture and oilfree compressed air is required for proper pulse cleaning. Check the compressed air regularly for oil or moisture contamination. Also check the pulse sequence. actory-set timing is every 0 seconds. If the pulse sequence has been adjusted, keep a record of the correct timing so that it may be verified as part of your preventive maintenance program. 4. Check Exhaust Observe the exhaust air stream at the outlet of the collector periodically. If dust is being emitted, remove and inspect the cartridges and replace as necessary. 5. ilter Changeout ilters should be changed whenever any one of these conditions exists: Pressure drop exceeds 5" after pulsing Airflow is too low at the pickup duct Dust is present in the air stream at the outlet of the collector. Cartridge Installation Downflo and Downflo II After removal of old cartridges:. Clean the internal side of the access porthole covers. Inspect for damaged or loose gasketing. Replace or refasten gasketing with a silicone adhesive glue. Some compression of the inner gasket is acceptable and will not adversely affect the sealing of the cartridge. The gasket located on the outside edge is less critical. Although it will not affect the filtering capabilities of the dust collector, it would allow some air to be pulled into the dirty air plenum, decreasing the amount of air pulled from your manufacturing process. Replace if damaged.. Clean the sealing surface located at the inner back wall of the collector. This should be the sealing surface for the first of two cartridges installed in each porthole. 3. Being careful not to drop or bend the metal end caps, install the new cartridges per porthole taking care to install them gasket end first. Be sure the cartridge is centered inside the access cover. If properly centered, it will rest inside the alignment indentation on the cover. 4. Install the access porthole covers. a. Tighten covers by hand until the gasket located on the outside edge of the cover is touching the front of the collector at all points. You should not be able to move the door up and down by lifting on the access porthole handle at this point. b. Using the access porthole handknob tightening tool, PN 4MA , tighten the handknobs an additional 3 complete revolutions. This will give adequate compression to the gaskets located on the filter cartridges and the access porthole covers. Their unique, one-piece design retrofits 50-0 Donaldson Torit cabinet collectors manufactured after 970. The ABS-injection molded frame is light weight and easy to handle during installation. ilter media inserts of airlaid polyester fibers maintain bag spacing and provide a slight gain in airflow performance over the traditional wire mesh inserts. A positive seal provides an airtight connection that does not allow dust leaks. Bag fabrics are selected for the best combination of filtration efficiency and dust release. ilters offers the choice of cotton sateen flame retardant (R), polyester sateen, polypropylene sateen, woven polyester, and several other special order options. We recommend that you select the same bags that are already in your cabinet collector. The Donaldson Parts Department can reference your original order by serial number if you are uncertain which filters are in your collector. EZ ilter Pack Cotton sateen (R) is our standard filter material, providing excellent efficiency and dust release in most applications. Polyester sateen is selected for higher temperatures and abrasion resistance. Woven polyester has better release capability, but lower efficiency than cotton or polyester sateen. Polypropylene is chosen for chemical resistance. The system is recommended for applications where filtered air is returned to the building. It is typically installed on the discharge side of the dust collector and fan. 40 Ultra-Lok ilter Retaining Systems The Ultra-Lok ilter Retaining System enhances dust collector performance by providing high efficiency backup filtration capabilities. Air exhausted from the dust collector passes through the HEPA filters sealed inside the Ultra-Lok housing. The filters capture any dust that might be emitted if a cartridge or bag begins leaking and requires service. When equipped with a Magnehelic gauge, Ultra-Lok warns maintenance personnel that the collector requires service. The unit features a spring-loaded positive sealing design which ensures that the filters are fastened without leakage. The unit is constructed from 4 gauge galvanized steel, and includes access doors that allow filters to be replaced from either side. 46 Photohelic & Magnehelic Gauges; Delta P Control A key element of dust collector maintenance is the use of a differential pressure gauge. Measurement of the pressure drop across the filters is the best way to tell when filters need servicing. A Magnehelic gauge simply measures the differential pressure (pressure drop) across the filters. Observation and careful monitoring of the gauge will provide a good indication of when it is time to change filters. A Delta P Control is highly recommended for all continuous-duty dust collection systems. The Delta P Control is used to control pulse timing so that filters are cleaned only when necessary. This reduces compressed air usage and prolongs the filter life. 59 Silencers The silencer offering varies with the dust collector model. Three types of silencers are available for Cabinet Dust Collectors - stack silencers, chamber silencers and attenuators. Cyclones use either stack silencers or attenuators. Chamber silencers are used on Downflo, Downflo II, MIC, Mist Collector, PJD, TD, TJ and VS Dust Collectors. Stack silencers, though foam lined, primarily direct the sound away from the work zone. Attenuators do a better job of lowering noise than stack silencers due to a tapered inner metal liner and soundabsorbing material. Chamber silencers are designed to repeatedly direct the sound waves into the sound-absorbing material, making them the most effective choice for noise reduction.
