2 ASN Series - The Next-Generation MV Switchgears About The Product The ASN series switchgear is Cooper Power Systems latest medium voltage switchgear suitable for 50/60Hz three-phase AC power systems. The switchgear has a vital role in electrical power distribution, i.e. to ensure the reliability of electricity supply by controlling, protecting, and monitoring all electrical circuits in the power system. They are commonly used in power plants, power substations, mining industries, and high-rise buildings. Each switchgear is configured with metallic casing, high-performance vacuum circuit breaker housed in a withdrawable truck, epoxy-insulated conductor surfaces and reliable interlocks. Customers can configure the switchgear components from the provided options to meet their requirements. To protect and minimize injuries to both the equipment and operators, each switchgear is fitted with safety shutter, ventilation system, pressure relief ducts, and both mechanical and electric interlocks. 4 ASN Series - The Next-Generation MV Switchgears ASN3 & ASN2 Product Features Medium Voltage Switchgear configured with Vacuum Circuit Breakers and Earthing Switches. They are Air-Insulated, Robust, Efficient, and Internal Arc Proof. You can depend on them for a Reliable and Safer operating environment. ASN3-12 ASN2-24 ASN3 and ASN2 are Cooper Power Systems next-generation medium voltage switchgear, manufactured by Cooper Nature Electric (Ningbo) Co., Ltd. They are suitable for 50/60Hz three-phase AC power system, mainly used in power plants, power substations, mining industries, and high-rise buildings for electrical power distribution. Simultaneously, they control, protect, and monitor electrical circuits to ensure the reliability of electricity supply. Small in size, metal-clad, middle-mounted, and air-insulated switchgear. Configured with high-performance VN indoor series medium voltage vacuum circuit breakers and earthing switches containing high-speed closing mechanisms capable of protecting against shortcircuit currents. All main conductor surfaces of the switchgear is epoxy-insulated. This type of insulation has a higher density and adhesion as compared to the electrostatic insulation. In addition, it has high heat resistance, durable, and uniform surface application. The switchgear frame is made of aluminum coated zinc plates joined by steel rivets for robustness and efficiency. 5 ASN3 & ASN2 Product Design Designed with Detachable Apparatus, Safety Shutter, Epoxy-Insulated Busbars, Robust and Boltless Frame, Efficient Ventilation System, Safer Pressure Relief Ducts, and Reliable Interlocks. Customized Parts are by Designated Suppliers. Detachable Apparatus The low voltage control compartment is made up of detachable parts. Assemble the parts together before connecting the wires. Then you install the compartment into the switchgear, making it neat, tidy, and convenient for the service technician to perform maintenance work. Since all parts position are fixed, assembly is straightforward and thus more efficient. Safety is assured with all wirings arranged in metal covered wiring slots preventing bare wires from being exposed to service technicians. Detachable Instrument Compartment Safety Shutter The circuit breaker rails and metallic shutter in front of the stationary contacts have been designed to isolate the breaker compartment from the busbar compartment to increase service technicians safety during maintenance work. Whenever the circuit breaker is withdrawn from its service position, the shutter will close automatically, enclosing the static contact box, thus meeting the safety requirements of IP2X. This prevents accidental contacts with the switchgear energized stationary contacts. Pad lock can be installed at the shutter to prevent unauthorized personnel from accessing the switchgear, hence preventing accidents. Circuit Breaker Safety Shutter Page 5

6 ASN Series - The Next-Generation MV Switchgears Epoxy-Insulated Busbars The busbars are epoxy-insulated. This insulation has a higher density, adhesion, high heat resistance, and is durable. Epoxy-Insulated Busbars Robust and Boltless Frame Boltless Switchgear Frame The frame has been constructed with aluminum coated zinc plates joined by steel rivets which eliminate the protruding bolts and nuts design that cause gaps to be present between switchgear panels when joined together. Steel riveting has the advantage of distributing the stress evenly to all parts, thus increasing the frame s robustness. The boltless frame design enables the switchgear panel to be removed and replaced by the service technician with ease. Even if the switchgear panel is between other switchgear panels inside the medium voltage substation, the complete switchgear panel can be drawn out and replaced easily as required. The front and rear doors have been strengthened with special techniques to improve their mechanical strength to satisfy the Internal Arc Test. Safe Pressure Relief Ducts Pressure relief ducts have been set up above the circuit breaker, busbars, and cable compartments. In the event when an electric arc occurs, the pressure within the switchgear will increase, causing the door sealing mechanism (installed at the front door) to be activated, sealing the switchgear doors. The pressure relief ducts at the top of the frame will automatically be opened, relieving both pressure and heat. This prevents injury to the operator(s) and reduces the dangers to the switchgear. 7 Efficient Ventilation System The base of the circuit breaker compartment has been designed with air passages. When the temperature rises during operation, the hot air rises while cold air enters from the base into the compartment. This process dissipates heat from the system enabling the switchgear to function as designed. Efficient Ventilation System Customized Parts by Designated Supplier By designating supplier for current transformer (CT), CT dimension is defined for all current rating. Product quality is assured by unifying the measurement/dimension of the CT busbar. Installation is easier, resulting in shorter product delivery time. The new earthing switch consists of a high fault making switch with a fast closing mechanism and a compact structure that is easy to operate. In addition, an exquisite appearance. Customized Earthing Switch To raise the overall switchgear quality, the switchgear is installed with well-known brand secondary parts to assure the reliable operation of its secondary circuit. 8 ASN Series - The Next-Generation MV Switchgears Safe and Reliable Interlock The switchgear is installed with mechanical and electric interlocks to prevent mis-operations. This satisfies the requirements of Five Preventions : (1) prevent mis-operation of the circuit breaker; (2) prevent mishandling when loading or unloading the circuit breaker truck; (3) prevent closing of earth switch when under voltage; (4) prevent power from being supplied when earth switch is at earth position; and (5) prevent physical access to the live compartment. These measures will further protect the safety of the operators and the switchgear. There are clear positions marked for service and test functions on the circuit breaker. The built-in mechanical lock will ensure that closing operations can only be carried out when the circuit breaker is in service / test mode. Above all, the circuit breaker can only unload when it is in the open mode. Reliable Interlocks A mechanical lock has been installed between the circuit breaker truck and the secondary controlling plug to prevent the plug from being unplugged when the circuit breaker is in operation. This ensures safety measures are in operation whenever the switchgear is in operation mode. Page 8

ASN1 is the Cooper Power Systems latest next-generation medium voltage switchgear, manufactured by Cooper Nature Electric (Ningbo) Co., Ltd. It is also one of the smallest 40.5kV rated voltage switchgear in the market. It is suitable for 50/60Hz three-phase AC power systems, mainly used in power plants, power substations, mining industries, and high-rise buildings for electrical power distribution. It controls, protects, and monitors electrical circuits to ensure the reliability of electricity supply. ASN1 has been configured with high-performance VN1 indoor series medium voltage vacuum circuit breaker and secondary circuit equipped with reliable advance control and protective devices. The switchgear s main conductor surface is epoxy-insulated. This type of insulation has a higher density and adhesion as compared to the electrostatic insulation. It also has high heat resistance, durable and uniform surface application. 12 ASN Series - The Next-Generation MV Switchgears ASN1 Product Design The product s structure is made up of Parts, with Standalone Pressure Relief Ducts, Reliable Truck, High Voltage Bushing and Spacious Cable Compartment. Lastly, Safer and Reliable Interlocks are installed to enhance operating environment safety. Structured Design The frame is made of aluminum coated zinc plates and top quality SPCC (cold rolled steel) processed by CNC equipment and undergone cutting, punching, and bending process, and joined by high-strength steel rivets, increasing its robustness and slow down deterioration. All compartments, are separated from each other with a metallic board and earthed. This prevent the strong electric fields inside the switchgear from interfering with the normal functions of low voltage secondary control circuit, thus protecting the normal operation of the switchgear and the safety of service technicians. The switchgear truck is located at the bottom and has the advantage of being easy to load/unload, and convenient for the service technician to maintain. Assembled Structure Standalone Pressure Relief Ducts Pressure relief ducts have been set up above the circuit breaker, busbars, and cable compartments. In the event an electric arc occurs, the pressure within the switchgear will increase, activating the door sealing mechanism (installed at the front door), sealing the switchgear doors. The pressure relief ducts at the top of the frame will open automatically, relieving both pressure and heat. This prevents injury to the operator(s) and reduces the damage to the switchgear. 13 Reliable Truck In the circuit breaker compartment, there are tracks and wires push-in mechanism to guide the truck. This design ease the loading/ unloading of the truck, improve overall switchgear structure reliability and prevent unnecessary truck vibrations due to external force. Circuit Breaker Compartment High Voltage Bushing All busbars are insulated with high voltage bushing that distribute the electric field evenly to prevent corona discharge and slow down insulation deterioration, thus increasing the overall product insulation capability that complies with the technical requirements of high voltage bushings. High Voltage Bushing Spacious Cable Compartment There is sufficient space to allow the service technician s access to the cable compartment for installation and maintenance work. Each phase can be connected up to six single core cable, or three pieces of three-core cable. The following components can be installed in the cable compartment: current transformer, voltage transformer, earthing switch, arrester, zero sequence current transformer, and charging indicator.
