1 GENERAL SERVICE INFORMATION 1 HUSTLER TURF EQUIPMENT GENERAL SERVICE INFORMATION DAILY SERVICE & PREVENTIVE MAINTENANCE HUSTLER-Z & SUPER-Z Kohler Engines 27HP, 30HP & 28HP EFI with Donaldson Heavy Duty Air Cleaner Z MODEL #927111, , ,927806, Super Z MODEL #927038, , , , , , , , , , , , , , , GENERAL ENGINE SPECIFICATIONS Type Kohler Air-cooled, 4-stroke OHV, V-Twin Cylinder, gasoline, vertical crankshaft. Engine Specifications Kohler: 27HP CV7405 PS-CV740S-0017 Kohler: 28HP EFI CV7455 PS CV745S-0005 Kohler: 30HP -CV750S-PS-CV Operating R.P.M. No load, 3750 Idle R.P.M LUBRICATION Oil Capacity Kohler: 27HP, 30HP 2.1 quarts (2.0 liters) with filter. Kohler: 28HP EFI 2.1 quarts (2.0 liters) with filter. When checking oil level remove dipstick and wipe clean, then reinsert into the filler neck without screwing it in. Then removed and check oil level. See Engine owner s manual for further detail. Engine Oil Filter Kohler Part Number S, Hustler Part Number Engine Oil Filter Change Interval Replace the oil filter every 200 hours. Before installing replacement filter, apply a coating of oil on the surface of the rubber seal. Note: The oil and filter should be changed more often if the engine is operating in dusty or dirty conditions. Engine Oil Change Interval On a new engine, change oil after the first 8 hours of operation and then every 100 operating hours thereafter. Note: 50 hours for continuous and/or heavy duty operation.

2 GENERAL SERVICE INFORMATION 2 Engine Oil Recommendations Use high quality detergent oil of A.P.I. service class SM, SL, SH, or SJ. Select the viscosity based on the air temperature at the time of operation. See Kohler Owner s Manual (Part Number TP-2475-G or Hustler Part Number ). NOTE: If owner prefers to use synthetic oil, engine should be operated for at least 50hrs using standard petroleum based oil before switching to synthetic oil. IGNITION SYSTEM TYPE Solid-state, unadjustable timing. DSAI Speed advance module (used on 30HP models in 2007 production) Spark Plug Kohler champion #RC 12 YC, Kohler Part Number S. Spark Plug Gap 030 (0.75 MM). Spark Plug Service Every 200 hours of operation, remove plugs, check condition and reset gaps. Clean area around base of spark plugs before removing to prevent dirt from entering engine. Install the plugs and torque to 18-22ft. lb. See Kohler Owner s Manual (Part Number TP-2475-G or Hustler Part Number ). FUEL RECOMMENDATION Fuel For best results, use only clean, fresh, regular grade unleaded gasoline with a pump sticker octane rating of 87 or higher. Fuels containing 10% ethanol are approved. DO NOT use E85 Fuel. Fuel Tank Capacity 12 U.S. gallon (45.4 liter). Fuel Filter Kohler 27HP & 30HP replace in-line fuel filter every season or every 500 hours,whichever occurs first. Kohler 27HP & 30HP Fuel Filter, Hustler Part Number Kohler 28HP EFI Replace special, high volume, high pressure fuel filter every 1500 hours, or more frequently under extremely dusty or dirty conditions. Hustler Part Number Carburetor Kohler 27 HP & 30HP Fixed jet with either associated or cable operated type choke. For adjustment, see Kohler Owner s manual (Part Number TP-2475-G or Hustler Part Number Kohler 28 HP EFI (Electronic Fuel Injection) Has no choke.

3 GENERAL SERVICE INFORMATION 3 ELECTRICAL SYSTEM Starter 12 volt solenoid shift; positive engagement starter; heavy duty. Note: Do not crank engine more than 5-seconds continuously. Let starter cool down for 15- seconds between starting attempts. Annually or every 500 hours, have bendix starter drive serviced and have solenoid shift starter disassembled and cleaned. Battery 12 volt, garden tractor size. BCI group UIR with 225 or better cranking AMP rating. A maintenance-free battery is recommended. Charging System Kohler 27HP 12 volt, 20 AMP. Kohler 28HP EFI 12 volt, 25 AMP. Kohler 30HP 12 volt, 20 AMP COOLING SYSTEM Intake Screen Check cooling air intake screen and external surface of engine every 4 hours. Make sure they are clean and unobstructed. Engine Shrouds Inspect daily and check that the air cleaner components and all shrouds, equipment covers, and guards are in place and securely fastened. Remove cooling shrouds and clean cooling areas every 100 hours. Service more often under dusty or dirty conditions. Hyd. Oil Cooler Clean daily or every 4 hours (service more often under dusty or dirty conditions. AIR CLEANER SERVICE Donaldson Air Cleaner Service Replace the paper element annually or 500 hours. Do not clean filter element, replace with new one using Hustler Part Number Service more often under dusty or dirty conditions. Use caution when servicing to prevent dust contamination in the engine. See Hustler Owner s Manual number , HYDRAULIC SYSTEM OIL - Never use hydraulic or automatic transmission fluid in this system. Use only SAE10W-40, API Service SG, SF/CC, CD motor oil. Note: When changing hydraulic oil use ½ unit (approximately 3.5 oz.), of a seven-ounce bottle of Lubrizol additive (Hustler Part Number ). If owner prefers to use synthetic oil, use Mobil 1, 15w-50 only. Do not use Lubrizol when using synthetic oil. Reservoir Reservoir capacity is 1 U.S. gallon (5.7 liter). Fluid level should be 1 from top of reservoir. Check oil level every 50 hours of operation or weekly.

4 GENERAL SERVICE INFORMATION 4 Super Z reservoir capacity 5 U.S. quarts (7.1 liter). Hydraulic Filter Hustler Part Number for Z Hyd. Filter (40 micron). Super Z hydraulic filter (25 micron). Replace the hydraulic system filter element after the first 50 hours of operation; then replace filter and oil in reservoir every 500 hours or once a season, whichever comes first. When Filter Is Changed Prefill the filter element with clean oil before installing. Apply a light coating of oil on upper surface of rubber seal. Hydraulic Filler Cap Clean or replace hydraulic reservoir cap annually. LUBRICATION AND MAINTENANCE SCHEDULE Total number of grease fittings on tractor and deck (13). Deck (3) Spindle Assemblies Grease blade spindle housing every 500 hours or once a year. Tractor (4) Deck Height Pivot s (2) Gauge Wheel Bearings (1) Pump Idler Arm Grease every 50 hours or weekly. Deck - (2) Deck Pusher Arm (1) Deck Idler Arm (Pre- XR7 deck) Belts Check hydraulic pump drive belt and mower blade drive belt for proper tension every 100 hours or monthly. Torque to ft. lbs. SUPER Z Wheel motor hub nuts (1). Torque to ft. lbs. Wheel Nuts Wheel lug nuts (5). Torque to ft. lbs. Note: It is recommended that these be checked after the first 2 hours of operation; check hub nuts (2) and wheel lug nuts(10) monthly thereafter. Blade Spindle Bolts Saddle-less type- top bolt ft. lbs. bottom bolt Torque to 118 ft. lbs. Note Must be maintained when blades are changed or as needed after blade impacts. TIRE PRESSURE Drive Tires 8 to 12 lbs. Front Tires 8 to 12 lbs.
