Chapter 1: Introduction Figure 1-1, The AGP-1700 Gate The Amano Cincinnati, Inc. AGP-1700 Series Parking Gate is designed to meet all forms of automatic control requirements found in parking facilities all over the globe. The gate housing is constructed of durable heavy gauge steel and shock resistant polyethylene for long life. It is designed so that the pedestal base can be rotated in 90 increments independently of the drive mechanism so that the removable access door can be located where it best suits the installation. The drive mechanism is designed for easy installation and replacement of gate arms in the event of damage. The AGP-1700 gate also includes Amano s exclusive Extra Sensory feature, which will immediately raise the gate arm if it strikes an object during its descent. The gate arm will remain up until automatically reset. In addition to standard straight gate arms, a folding gate arm is available. The folding gate arm is designed for use in locations where a low ceiling height prevents operation of standard arms. The footprint of the AGP-1700 is designed to be a direct replacement of many other gates, such as the APE/CPE G89; Federal APD G89 and G90; PSA 100; and Amano ATG-820 and ATF-700. The AGP-1700 is also a replacement for Cincinnati Time s 400 and Amano s 800 model gates with the galvanized base. Warning! The AGP-1700 series gate is for automotive traffic only. Allow no motorcycles or pedestrians. AGP-1700 / Introduction 1-1

Refer to Step 1. Field Wiring Terminal Blocks Figure 3-11, Terminal Block TB1 and TB2 To the left side of TB1 is a description of each connection. When connecting Inputs, use TB1 for positive (+) connections and TB2 for negative (-) connections. Any connection symbol that appears as a dashed line delineates the necessity of an additional daughter board in the control box (Optional KIT-10). Refer to Page 3-23 for more detailed information. TB3 TB3 provides a (+) 12VDC power source and (-) return to be used as needed for loop detectors and other peripherals. The AGP-1700 is pre-wired for the installation of a loop detector. Refer to the Figure 3-12 on page AGP-1700 / Installation

Vehicle Loop Detector Installation The AGP-1700 gate provides for the mounting of up to 3 separate vehicle loop detectors on a DIN rail. See Figure 3-12 below. A socket and wiring harness is provided for one AGP-0134 single loop 12 VDC detector or one AGP-0234 dual loop 12 VDC detector. (Detectors are sold separately.) The installation of more than one detector requires additional wiring as well. Detector socket and harness kits are available from Amano Cincinnati, Inc. Figure 3-12, Vehicle Loop Detector Socket and Wiring Harness Loop A coil connections are made at terminals 9 and 10 of the detector socket. Likewise, Loop C coil connections are made at terminals 7 and 8. To install an AGP Vehicle Loop Detector, simply plug it into the detector socket. The socket and detector are both keyed to ensure a proper connection. AGP-1700 / Installation 3-11

Lane Control Options The Gate Control Box is responsible for controlling the entire operation of the gate, including the gate operational modes and functions. The Gate Control Box is located in the upper right had corner of the inside cabinet. Refer to Figures 3-8 and 3-9 on Pages 3-7 and 3-8. Figure 3-13, Control Box LED Indicator On the front of the control box there is a dip switch array used to configure the gate operational modes. The AGP-1700 can operate in four separate modes as follows: One Way Pay, Free Direction Only, Two Way Lane and IOC (Input/Output Controller). These modes are set by the corresponding MODE 1 and MODE 2 dip switch settings on front of the Control Box. Each operational mode is explained in detail on the following pages. Other functions that are switch selectable on the Control Box include Gate Arm Auto Stop, Backout, Extra Sensory Timer, and the Timer setting. The MAIN power must be switched off to change these functions. The LED on the front panel will indicate when the power to the gate is on, and when an error has occurred in the gate AGP-1700 / Installation

The LED indications are as follows: Power When the LED stays on (continuous), it indicates that the control box is receiving power. This indicates normal operation of the gate. Error When the LED flashes, it indicates that the gate arm has taken longer than the 5 seconds travel from one position to the opposite position. The 5 second timer is an internal safety feature that prevents overtravel of the arm and will temporarily disable gate until power is recycled. If this error occurs, check the following items before calling your Amano Cincinnati, Inc. service representative. 1. Check the drive belt to make sure the tension is adequate, and the belt does not slip. Refer to Page Check the limit switches mounted to the side of the gear reducer. Observe the limit switches as you run the gate through a number of up and down cycles to determine if the limit switches operate properly. Refer to Page Make sure the gear reducer and motor turn freely. 4. Turn the main power off and then on again to reset the gate. Warning! The One Way Pay operational mode is the default. To choose a different mode, turn the MAIN power switch OFF before you move the MODE 1 and MODE 2 switches. AGP-1700 / Installation 3-13

Dip Switch Settings The default dip switch settings are shown on the control box label. As labeled, the ENABLE (ON) position is to the left, and the DISABLE (OFF) position is to the right. Figure 3-17, Default Control Box Dip Switch Settings The dip switch settings for each operational mode and functions are as follows: MODE 1 and MODE 2 The MODE 1 and MODE 2 switches are used to set the operational mode of the gate. The gate can be set in any one of four separate operational modes; One Way Pay, Free Direction Only, Two Way Lane and IOC (Input/Output Controller) depending on the position of the switches. The default setting of the AGP-1700 gate is One Way Pay. (Both MODE 1 and MODE 2 switches are ENABLED (ON)). Extra Sensory Timer If the gate arm strikes an object at any time during its decent, the Extra Sensory feature will immediately raise the gate arm. If the Extra Sensory Timer is enabled, the Timer (5-10 Sec.) switch controls the amount of time the gate remains in the UP position before it cycles down. If the Extra Sensory Timer is disabled, the gate arm will remain in the UP position after an Extra Sensory occurrence until a close signal has been received or a vehicle drives through the lane AGP-1700 / Installation

Backout If this function is enabled, the gate arm will close if it detects that a vehicle has backed off of the arming loop after the gate has been opened. Once the gate arm is up and there is no vehicle present in the arming loop (Loop A), the Timer Setting goes into effect. After the time period set at the Timer Setting has elapsed, the gate arm will come down. The Timer Setting is selectable to 5 or 10 seconds. If this function is disabled, the gate will remain up until it receives a close signal from an internal device or if the UP/NORMAL/DOWN switch is used. Auto Stop If this function is enabled, the gate arm will automatically stop its downward travel anytime the C loop is activated. The gate arm will resume its downward travel once the C loop is deactivated. The Auto Stop feature is available in the Two Way mode for the PAY DIRECTION only, as well as the One Way Pay and Free Direction Only Modes. Timer 5-10 Seconds This switch sets the time period for both the Back Out and Extra Sensory Timer functions. If this switch is in the enable position, the timer will be set to 5 seconds. If this switch is in the disable position, the timer will be set to 10 seconds. If the Backout function is enabled, this timer controls the amount of time the gate will wait before closing after a Backout has occurred. If the Extra Sensory Timer is enabled, and the gate has an Extra Sensory occurrence, this timer controls the amount of time the gate remains in the up position before it cycles down. Remote Gate Operation The AGP-1700 series gate can be wired for two types of remote operation. In scenario #1, a remote N/O momentary switch, such as a push button, is used to open the gate. The switch is connected to TB1-1 (+) and TB2-1 (-) Transient Open Inputs on the Field Wiring Terminal Block. When the switch is activated, an open pulse will raise the gate arm. The gate will close after a vehicle passes over the closing loop (Loop C). A Pay Direction Count will be issued. In scenario #2, a three-way N/O (non-momentary - off - momentary) switch, such as a toggle switch, is used to open and close the gate. The non-momentary contacts are connected to TB1-1 (+) and TB2-1 (-) Transient Open Inputs on the Field Wiring Terminal Block. The momentary contacts are connected to TB1-3 (+) and TB2-3 (-) Close Inputs. When the non-momentary switch is activated, a constant open signal will raise the gate arm and hold it open, regardless of the number of vehicles that pass through the lane. A Pay Direction count will be issued for each vehicle. Once the nonmomentary switch is no longer activated, the gate will close after a vehicle passes over the closing loop (Loop C). Or, the momentary side of the switch can then be used to issue a close signal to lower the gate arm. AGP-1700 / Installation 3-15

One Way Pay Direction Figure 3-18, Typical One Way Pay Lane The gate is used in conjunction with a control device such as a ticket dispenser or a card reader, and a loop (C). An additional loop (A) can be added for arming or if the backout timer is enabled. Loop A is wired to the Loop A Contact Inputs (TB1-15 and TB2-15) on the Field Connection Board. The Arming Outputs (TB1-12 and TB2-12) are wired to the control device arming inputs. A pay count is issued upon completion of a valid pay sequence, as follows: A vehicle enters the lane and drives on to Loop A (if present) which will send an ARMING signal to the control device. The patron is issued a ticket, uses the card reader, or otherwise initiates the control device. The control device sends a GATE OPEN signal to raise the gate arm. The vehicle proceeds through the lane, passes over Loop C, and exits the lane. The gate closes, sends a RESET output to the ticket dispenser (or control device) and a PAY DIRECTION COUNT is issued. If the vehicle does not proceed through the lane but backs off of Loop A, a BACKOUT situation has occurred, and will be handled as described in on Page If Loop A is not present and the gate arm has been latched up using the UP/NORMAL/DOWN switch, a PAY DIRECTION COUNT will be issued each time a vehicle passes over Loop C. If Loop A is present the gate can detect which direction a vehicle is traveling. A PAY DIRECTION COUNT will be issued for a vehicle traveling in the correct direction. A FREE COUNT will be issued when a vehicle travels in the wrong direction, except when the VEND option is in use. Note: If the gate is operating without the use of Loop A, then receives a signal from Loop A, the gate will expect a Loop A signal until the LOGIC POWER is switched OFF and back ON again AGP-1700 / Installation

Figure 3-19, Typical One Way Pay Lane Layout Refer to Figure 3-19 above for a layout of a typical One Way Pay Lane. AGP-1700 / Installation 3-17

Free Direction Only Figure 3-20, Typical Free Direction Only Lane The gate is used in conjunction with two loops (D and C) that are placed so that they can both be bridged by a vehicle at the same time. In this situation Loop D is the opening loop and Loop C is the closing loop. The gate will open when a vehicle is present over Loop D. As the vehicle proceeds through the lane it bridges both Loop D and Loop C. As the vehicle proceeds further it moves off of Loop D and is over Loop C only. Once the vehicle leaves Loop C the gate arm will lower and a FREE COUNT will be issued. If the gate arm has been latched up using the UP/NORMAL/DOWN switch a FREE DIRECTION COUNT will be issued if a vehicle passes over the loops as described above. If a vehicle is detected traveling the wrong direction through the lane, a PAY DIRECTION COUNT is issued. In a bumper to bumper situation, a vehicle is detected over Loop C and then passes off of it, while there is another vehicle present over Loop D. The gate arm will begin to close, but will return to the UP position. A FREE DIRECTION COUNT will be issued for each vehicle AGP-1700 / Installation

Figure 3-21, Typical Free Direction Only Lane Layout Refer to Figure 3-21 above for a layout of a typical Free Direction Only Lane. AGP-1700 / Installation 3-19

Two Way Operation Figure 3-22, Typical Two Way Lane The gate is used in conjunction with three loops. Two loops (C and D) are placed so that they can both be bridged by a vehicle at the same time. A control device is used to issue an open signal. Loop A is the arming loop in the pay direction. Loop C acts as the closing loop in both directions. In a pay direction situation: A vehicle stops over Loop A and arms the control device. The control device is used and issues a GATE OPEN signal. The vehicle proceeds through the lane, passing over Loop C, and exits the lane. The gate closes and issues a PAY DIRECTION COUNT. In a FREE DIRECTION situation: A vehicle moves over Loop D, signaling the gate to open. The vehicle moves over Loop C, off of Loop D, then off of Loop C. A FREE DIRECTION COUNT is issued and the gate arm is lowered. If the gate arm is latched up using the UP/NORMAL/DOWN switch the gate can detect which direction traffic is traveling in and issue a PAY DIRECTION count or a FREE DIRECTION count accordingly AGP-1700 / Installation

Figure 3-23, Typical Two Way Lane Layout Refer to Figure 3-23 above for a layout of a typical Two Way Lane. IOC (Input Output Controller) In this mode an IOC (Input Output Controller) controls the lane operation in an online Count and Monitoring System. The gate arm will remain in the UP position as long as the IOC issues a GATE OPEN signal. When the IOC ceases to issue a GATE OPEN signal the gate arm will lower and a PAY DIRECTION COUNT will be issued. If an extra sensory situation occurs while the gate arm is lowering, a FREE DIRECTION COUNT will be issued to notify the IOC. AGP-1700 / Installation 3-21

Field Wiring Connections Figure 3-24, AGP-1700 Connections to an ETP-12/ AGP-1700 / Installation

Separate Out Counts (KIT-10) The AGP-1700 can be equipped with an optional KIT-10 daughter board in the control box. When the KIT-10 circuit board is in place, inputs are connected as follows: TB1-2 and TB2-2 are used for CONTRACT (card reader) inputs in all modes, TB1-14 and TB2-14 are used for VEND (coin/token) inputs in the one way pay mode, TB1-1 and TB2-1 are still used for TRANSIENT (ticket dispenser) inputs. Figure 3-25, Field Wiring Terminal Blocks The KIT-10 circuit board provides separate count outputs for CONTRACT users at TB1-6 and TB2-6, TRANSIENT users at TB1-7 and TB2-7, and VEND users. TB1-5 and TB2-5 (FREE output) are used for VEND output when the KIT-10 board is installed. When the gate is in One Way Pay mode, the gate can receive a separate open signal from a VEND device such as a coin or token unit. The gate will output a VEND count. Note: If the VEND input is in use and the gate is latched UP, the gate cannot send a FREE direction count if a vehicle travels through the lane in the wrong direction. AGP-1700 / Installation 3-23

Cover Installation 1. Line up the gate shaft cutout in the side of the cover with the gate arm shaft on the gate. 2. Lower the cover onto the pedestal base. 3. Line up the posts on the bottom of the cover with the holes in the pedestal top, and set the cover on the pedestal. 4. Make sure the cover is sitting squarely on the pedestal top, and does not rock back and forth. 5. Push the locking slides over the posts to secure the cover to the pedestal.(refer to Figure 3-3 on Page 3-3.) Gate Arm Installation Warning! If the drive mechanism has been rotated so that it is perpendicular (90 ) to the cabinet door, you must remove the posts on the bottom of the cover and relocate them so that they are parallel with the cabinet door. Otherwise, the cover will not lock and the drive mechanism will fail to operate. Install the gate arm in the gate arm clamp assembly. See Figure 3-26 below. Make sure the gate arm clamp assembly is in the DOWN (horizontal) position. Adjust the gate arm to the correct horizontal position and securely tighten the screws and nuts. Figure 3-26, Gate Arm Installation 3-24 AGP-1700 / Installation

If you are installing a folding gate arm, please refer to the diagram below for space requirements: Figure 3-27, Folding Gate Arm Space Requirements Warning! You must provide 9 (23 cm) of clearance from the ceiling to the bottom of the horizontal arm when it is in the up position. In situations where a very low ceiling is present, it may be necessary to cut off the excess length of both the driving arm and threaded rod to achieve the desired height. DO NOT adjust the limit switches or cams to stop the folding gate arm before it reaches its full range of motion. AGP-1700 / Installation 3-25

Gate Operation Test 1. The gate arm must be installed for proper operation of this test. Refer to Figures 3-8 and 3-9 on Pages 3-7 and 3-8, to locate the MAIN POWER switch and the UP/NORMAL/DOWN switch. 2. Turn the MAIN POWER switch ON, and the UP/NORMAL/DOWN switch DOWN. The gate arm will rotate to the DOWN position if it is not already there. 3. Set the internal UP/NORMAL/DOWN switch to UP. The gate arm will rotate to the UP position. Set the internal UP/NORMAL/DOWN switch to NORMAL. The gate will rotate to the DOWN position. The gate will now respond to automatic control. 4. Turn on the Extra Sensory Timer to ON. Check the Extra Sensory feature by stopping the descent of the gate arm with an open hand while standing in the traffic lane. Upon striking your hand, the gate should reverse, and remain UP for a period of time. This period of time depends on the switch settings on the control box. The default setting is ten seconds. The gate arm will then rotate to the DOWN position. The Extra Sensory Timer is switch selectable for 5 or 10 seconds, and can be disabled/enabled at the control box. If the Extra Sensory Timer is disabled, the gate arm will remain in the UP position after striking an object until the gate receives a close signal. 5. If the gate contains loop detectors they should be tuned according to the manual s instructions. We recommend that you turn the LOGIC POWER switch OFF while tuning detectors. Drive a car through the lane several times to verify the operation of the detectors, ticket issue and other functions. 6. Replace the access door and cover after electrical connections and testing are completed AGP-1700 / Installation

Chapter 4: Troubleshooting and Maintenance Gate Arm Adjustment Warning! Make sure the gate arm is mounted in the gate arm bracket properly, and the gate arm support and bracket are secure and tight. The gate arm MUST be at a minimum angle of 80 with the horizontal when in the UP position. (Horizontal is 0.) Figure 4-1, Horizontal and Vertical Gate Positions Vertical Position If the gate arm becomes out of alignment it will bounce in the downward motion. If this occurs, perform the following procedure: 1. Raise the gate arm to the UP position. 2. Loosen the gate arm support and position the gate arm at a minimum angle of 80 with the horizontal. Tighten the gate arm support in place. 3. Lower the gate arm to the DOWN position. 4. Refer to the instructions below to adjust the horizontal position. AGP-1700 / Troubleshooting and Maintenance 4-1

Horizontal Position The horizontal position of the gate arm is adjusted with the Down Cam. The Down Cam is outermost cam (furthest away from the gear reducer) on the gear reducer shaft. Refer to Figure 4-2. Figure 4-2, Up and Down Cams To adjust the lowest (horizontal) position of the gate arm: 1. Loosen the hex head cap screw securing the Down Cam to the shaft. 2. Rotate the cam on the shaft so that it actuates its switch sooner if a higher gate arm position is desired, or later if a lower gate arm position is desired. The switch is activated when it clicks. 3. Make sure the Down Cam clears the mounting switch plate by 1/4 (6.35 mm), and also clears the bolt heads on the gear reducer. Tighten the hex head screw to secure the cam. Apply Locktite #242 at the cam slot after adjusting the cam and tightening the screw. Warning! Never adjust the Up Cam. 4-2 AGP-1700 / Troubleshooting and Maintenance

Drive Belt The tension in the drive belt (between the motor and the Gear Reducer pulley) should be set so that you should be able to press down 1/4 (0.635 cm) at the center of the drive belt. If it is not, it has to be adjusted. Perform the following to adjust the drive belt tension: 1. Open the cabinet door and set the MAIN POWER switch to OFF. 2. Remove the cover. (Refer to Page 3-3). 3. Loosen, but do not remove the hex nuts on the bolts that secure the motor mounting bracket (inside the cabinet underneath the drive mechanism). 4. Adjust the tension of the drive belt by sliding the motor along the slots of the mounting bracket. With proper belt adjustment, you should be able to press down 1/4 (0.635 cm) at the center of the drive belt. 5. Position the motor pulley and the gear box pulley so that the belt is aligned at right angles to each shaft. 6. Secure the motor mounting bracket in place by tightening the hex nuts on the motor mounting bracket bolts. 7. Replace the cover. (Refer to Page 3-24.) 8. Set the MAIN POWER switch to ON. Lubrication Gear Reducer Lubricate the link bearings, coil springs and crank arm with SAE #10 oil. Use grease to lubricate the allen head cap screw that operates the Extra Sensory switch. The the pillow block bearings on the gate shaft should be lubricated through the grease fittings bi-annually using 20 or 30 weight non-detergent oil. The Gear Reducer installed on the AGP-1700 requires no periodic lubrication. If the Gear Reducer on your gate is leaking gear oil, it must be replaced. If this occurs, please contact your local Amano Service Representative. AGP-1700 / Troubleshooting and Maintenance 4-3

Replacing the Taper Pin A taper pin secures the gate arm clamp assembly to the drive shaft. It is designed to protect the mechanism from damage due to improper force being applied to the gate arm. See Figure 4-3. If the pin fractures, dropping the gate arm, follow these instructions to replace the pin. Figure 4-3, Taper Pin Replacement 1. Unlock and remove the pedestal door, and remove the top cover. 2. Set the UP/NORMAL/DOWN switch to the UP position and allow the gate arm cycle to complete. 3. Turn the MAIN POWER switch OFF. 4. Remove the gate arm from the clamp assembly and pull the mounting hub and broken pin pieces from the shaft. 5. Drive the broken pin pieces out of the shaft from the small end of the taper pin. With a punch and hammer, use a solid sharp blow rather than a series of light blows. 6. Replace the gate arm mounting assembly. 7. Insert the new taper pin, tapping the larger end until it is firmly seated in the hub and drive shaft. 8. Turn the MAIN POWER switch ON. 9. Set the UP/NORMAL/DOWN switch to DOWN. Apply pressure to the gate arm clamp as it is rotating to make sure that the gate does not go into the extra sensory mode. 10. Turn the MAIN POWER switch OFF. 11. Replace the gate arm. 12. Turn the MAIN POWER switch ON. 13. Check the operation of the gate arm by using the UP/NORMAL/ DOWN switch. 14. Set the UP/NORMAL/DOWN switch to NORMAL. 15. Replace the top cover and the pedestal door. 4-4 AGP-1700 / Troubleshooting and Maintenance
