3 3 / 21 PEDALS 1. Clutch Use the clutch pedal with your left foot. You need to press the clutch down when: start the engine get the car to moving changing the gear stopping the car driving very slowly (for e.g. parking) 2. Brake Why do you have to use the brake pedal with your right foot? 3. Accelerator (gas pedal) Press the accelerator pedal gently. You only need your big toe on the pedal. When you re driving move your left foot to left side of the clutch.
4 4 / 21 GEARS Learn to remember where all gears situated. You can t watch gear knob when you re driving. When you change the gear press the clutch deep down at once. Suitable speed for gears: 1. gear = 5 10 km/h 2. gear = km/h 3. gear = km/h 4. gear = 40 50km/h 5. gear = 50 60km/h 6. gear = km/h Change to bigger gear when engine is running about 2000 rpm. Reversing gear is differently in different cars. If the reversing gear is next to first gear there is normally a lock system in that gear. When you going to drive press brake down to move the gear out from parking gear. If you do driving test with automatic car you will get driving license that you can only drive automatic car. Today most of new cars in Finland have automatic transmission.

Open the electronic parking brake: Press the brake pedal down and same time press parking brake button down Or give some basic gas and open the clutch carefully little upper Engage the electronic parking brake: Lift the button up Electric parking brake open up automatically when you touch the accelerator and find the clutch pedal to bite point

10 10 / 21 WINDSCREEN WIPER HIGH = Fast speed LOW = Slow wiping speed = Intermittent operation OFF = Off 1x = Mist / wipes once Windscreen washer: Pull the lever and washer fluid sprayed onto the window. Rear window wiper: Push the lever little and wiper start to working. Push the lever all forward and washer fluid sprayed to back window. When you press the lever down, you can wipe the windscreen once
11 11 / 21 DRIVING LIGHTS In most cars headlights works automatically. But always check your car. 1. Light switch = off = automatic lights = parking lights = headlights / driving lights 2. Back fog light Press the button in the middle. 3. Headlight range adjustment Driving lights are pointing too up when the car is full load. Normal this should be Brightnes of meters Turn driving lights on when it s dark or visibility is bad because of raining or snowing When driving in dark you can dim meters.
12 12 / 21 HIGH BEAM LIGHTS AND INDICATOR Turn and lane-change signals: lever up = right indicator lever down = left indicator Hazard warning flashers: Only for emergenzy situations. High beam lights: Lift the lever up to signal right. Press the lever down to signal left. This car having cruise control buttons. To high beam = check that headlights are switched on and push the lever forward to dash board. To low beam = pull the lever
13 13 / 21 METERS 1. Revolution counter / Tachometer 2. Temprature in cooler 3. Info screen trip and odometer board computer 4. Speedometer 5. Fuel From board computer you can check instantaneous fuel consumption, average fuel consumption, range that you can still drive and some other info about your driving. Door is open Seat belt is open Parking brake is engaged Preheating in diesel car If there are any red indicator lights on in meter you should not drive. ABS-brake failure low oil pressure
14 14 / 21 INITIAL PREPARATION 1. Height Pump action of lever Upwards: Seat higher Downwards: Seat lower 2. Distance To adjust front seat leg room: Pull handle up, slide the seat and release handle 3. Angle of the back of seat To adjust front seat backrests: Lift up lever and now you can move back of the seat Adjust the height of the seat so that your eays would be in the middle of the windscreen. Make sure that you can reach the clutch pedal down. Turn the angle of the back of the seat so you can reach steering wheel. WATCH SEAT AND MIRRORS VIDEO
15 15 / 21 INITIAL PREPARATION 4. Adjust the steering wheel Press swivel lever down, adjust height and distance. Swivel lever up to engage. Adjust the streering wheel only when vehicle is parked. 5. Adjust the head rest. Press the button in and then you can move the headrest. REMEMBER THE SEAT BELT! Pull down the lever so you can adjust the steering wheel
16 16 / 21 INITIAL PREPARATION - MIRRORS Side mirrors: Select first mirror that you like to adjust. L = left and R = right. Now it s possible to move the mirror in fours ways. Rear mirror: Turn the rear mirror so you can see the back window at once. Please don t leave finger prints on mirror. You should be watching just a little bit your own car
17 17 / 21 DRIVING Starting the engine: Drivers checklist Before you start the engine make sure that gear is on neutral and parking brake is engage. Press the clutch deep down and turn the ignition key clockwise. Moving off: Keep the clutch down and select the first gear. Open the parking brake. Press the accelerator lightly (basic acceleration = 1500 rpm). Gently open the clutch pedal (1-2 cm) to biting point and when the car start to moving freeze your left foot for moment. When speed is about 10km/h you can slowly to lift up the clutch. WATCH MOVING OFF VIDEO Uphill start: Press the clutch and brake down. Carefully open the clutch to biting point and keep the brake still down. Car start to shaking a little bit and sound of the engine is different. When the clutch is freezed to biting point, you can move your rigth foot from the brake to the accelerator. Keep the clutch steady until the speed is normal driving speed. WATCH e-autokoulu VIDEO
18 18 / 21 DRIVING Changing the gears: When speed is higher you have to change to bigger gear. Lift the accelerator up and press the clutch down. Now you can change the gear. When you change to smaller gear slow down the speed before. Steering: Take a firm grip of the steering wheel with both hands. Remember car will follow your watch. Stopping: High speed: slow down with engine braking or gently touch the brake pedal. Press the clutch down before stopping the car. Slow speed (about 10km/h): you won t have to slow down. Press the clutch down and gently press the brake pedal. Switch off: Keep the brake and clutch down. Switch off the engine form ingnition key. Lift up the parking brake and change the first gera in. 20 20 / 21 ENGINE AND REFUELING Opening the bonnet: Most of the cars you can open the engine hood from inside. Pull the lever and open the engine hood from outside. In this car you open the fuel tank from inside.
21 21 / 21 ENGINE AND REFUELING Before to driving to fuel station check which side is the fuel tank and how to open it. Often you have to open fuel tank from inside. Some cars you have to press fuel tank hatch inside so it s pop open. Select the language and follow directions. Remember to check which fuel does your car use. If you have diesel car there is a risk to accidently to use benzin. In that situation don t try to start the engine.
