2 Flatscreen Lifts by Draper, Inc. page 2 of 6 Installing Unit The FSL Flatscreen Lift must be installed on a ¾" thick back panel, such as plywood, MDF or other stable material. Please Note: The top of back panel including lift U channel bracket must be installed ¼" below inside front and sides of the cabinet. Caution: Prior to installing, ensure the furniture/cabinetry being used is large enough and strong enough to hold the FlatScreen Lift (in the fully upright position) and the display without tipping (see diagram on next page for minimum height requirements). If attaching to wall, installer is responsible for ensuring appropriate hardware is used and wall and studs are strong enough to hold the combined weight of the display and the lift. 1 Place "U" Channel Mounting Bar (see Fig. 1) down on the top edge of the ¾" back panel with the four pre-drilled holes facing the inside of the furniture where the lift will be placed. The "U" Channel Mounting Bar is press-on fit. 2 Lower the "U" channel on the back of the FSL Flatscreen Lift down over the back panel Mounting Bar and center it on the back panel. 3 Determine where to cut out for the motor in the ¾" thick back panel. (This is easier if the back ¾" panel has not been installed and attached in the actual cabinet yet.) 4 See Fig. 2 for motor cutout location. Cut out the opening to enable motor to pass through back panel. The added clearance around the cut out opening allows the motor and controller wiring cable to be fed inside the cabinet for hook-up. If more space is required for cables, etc., the hole can be enlarged or additional holes can be made in the back panel. Pre-drill the location on the panel with a #5 Vix bit and then drill two 5 /16" holes through the back panel. 6 Mount the lift in place onto the back panel and secure it with two (2) 6 mm x 30 mm bolts using flat washers. The bolts need only be tightened with a firm amount of torque, so as not to distort the back panel. 7 Attach the back ¾" furniture panel with lift into cabinetry and secure. Pull the motor/control wire cable through into the inside opening of the Lift area. 8 Position the controller in a convenient place to the left or right side of the lift at the top of the back panel just below the "U" Channel Mounting Bar. Screw the controller into place using four (4) 7 x 7 /16" pan head mounting screws provided. 9 Attach the male end of the motor/control cable to the female connector on the bottom of the controller. 10 Attach the female connector of the power cord to the male connector on the bottom of the controller. FSL Flatscreen Lift Operation The FSL FlatScreen Lift is operated with an RF Controller (standard) (115V AC or 220V AC). 1 The controller has been pre-programmed to extend to pre-determined height. 2 Press the "Up" button on the remote control to activate the up function. 3 The lift will extend to its pre-programmed height. 4 Attach secondary shelf to mounting brackets. (The secondary shelf has adjustable slots that allow you to center it in the cabinet opening.) 5 Pre-drill into the four holes located on the "U" channel mounting bar with a #5 Vix bit into the back panel. Figure 1 LIFT C L 3" 1 5 /8" DIM A 6 Attach the two 2 1 /8" tall x 3 /8" deep secondary shelf stop brackets by inserting one # 7 x 7 /16" pan head screw into the top of the adjustable slots in each stop bracket. (Hand tighten screw only at this time and rotate brackets sideways on U Channel Mounting Bar.) Do not attach secondary shelf stop brackets lower inside the cabinet. Caution: You must place a load of at least 15 lbs. to the unit before operating the lift. 7 Press the "Down" button on the remote control to activate the down function. (Apply constant downward pressure to the top of both slides at the curved portion of the lift.) 8 As the lift descends press the "Down" button once to halt the lift when the secondary lid stop brackets on the backside of the secondary lid are approximately ¾" below the top of the "U" Channel Mounting Bar. 9 Center the secondary lid bracket in cabinet opening (left and right). Please note: If power to the unit is lost, the FSL has a manual override. Simply remove the two screws from cover on the top of the lift, and use an M8 socket and ratchet or drill to raise or lower the unit. See back page for details. Making the ¾" Secondary Shelf 1 Measure the inside opening width of cabinet opening from the back side of the cabinet front panel to the front of the secondary lid bracket screw heads. 2 Measure the inside opening length of cabinet opening from the inside of the side walls. 3 Manufacture the secondary lid out of the ¾" material. If using veneer edge banding, subtract 3 /16" off depth and 3 /8" off width. If using solid hardwood, subtract an additional 1 /16" off depth and width. Installing the ¾" Secondary Shelf 1 Place the secondary lid from above on the pre-installed secondary shelf and center in the cabinet (left and right). 2 While holding down on the secondary shelf, press the "Up" button on the remote once more to raise the lift. Caution: Beware of getting fingers and hands pinched. 3 Using the Vix bit, pre-drill through pre-registered holes in the secondary shelf bracket. Secure the secondary shelf with appropriate fasteners (not supplied). 4 Press the "Down" button once to lower the lift and secondary lid into the pocket of the cabinet. Stop the lift when the top of the secondary lid is flush with the sides of the cabinet. Rotate the two "L" shaped secondary lid stops into position and tighten securely. 5 Press the "Up" button on the remote once more to raise the lift to its fullest extension height. Caution: Pinch point. Keep hands clear. Please Note: When installing lid on cabinet, make sure: A When fully open the lid is leaning slightly forward (resting against the unit) so it will close as unit is lowered; and B The lid is placed so that if cabinet is placed against the wall the lid has adequate space to open. 4 Flatscreen Lift by Draper, Inc. page 4 of 6 Controller Programming Instructions IMPORTANT: ➀ THE LIFT MUST BE WORKING AGAINST A MINIMUM LOAD OF AT LEAST 15 LBS IN ORDER TO FUNCTION PROPERLY. This can be achieved by either (1) attaching weight to the mounting brackets, or (2) manually by applying hand pressure at the top of both slides during operation. ➁ PLEASE READ THROUGH THESE INSTRUCTIONS CAREFULLY BEFORE ATTEMPTING TO OPERATE THE CONTROLLER OR THE LIFT. IT WILL SAVE YOU MUCH TIME AND EFFORT. Programming the Controller The controller is pre-programmed and tested at the factory, and should operate properly immediately upon installation. However, there are several functions that can be programmed to your specific requirements. Please note that when power is first applied to the controller, a horizontal flashing bar may appear in the display. If the flashing bar is in the upper right-hand corner (Fig 1), it means that the system thinks the lift is in the fully extended or up position. Fig. 1 Fig. 2 If the flashing bar is in the lower left-hand corner (Fig. 2), it means that the system thinks the lift is in the fully closed or down position. In either case, compare the actual position of the lift with the indication on the display before proceeding with programming. If they are not the same, follow the instructions for Extension Programming before programming other functions. Entering Setup Mode Before any of the functions of the controller can be programmed, you must first enter the Setup mode. To enter the Setup mode, do the following: ➀ Press SETUP and together, and hold for 5 EP should appear on the controller display. The controller is now unlocked and you may now access and program all the controller functions. ➁ By repeatedly pressing SETUP, you may toggle through the functions, which are abbreviated and will appear in the display in the following order: Function Display Extension Programming EP Add remote control A.rc Clear remote control C.rc Current down Cu.d Current Up Cu.U Infrared down Ird Infrared up Iru Count Cou bypass byp ➂ To exit setup mode: Press SETUP until appears in the display, then press. A brief description and procedure for programming each of the functions follows. EP Extension Programming Used to program the lift to stop at any desired extension height. NOTE: WHEN ATTEMPTING TO PROGRAM EXTENSION HEIGHT, IT IS VERY IMPORTANT TO START WITH THE LIFT IN THE FULLY CLOSED OR DOWN POSITION. If you see that the horizontal bar is flashing in the lower left corner of the display, but the lift is not in the lowest or closed position, (which often happens when the up and down buttons have been pushed before the controller is connected to the lift), do the following: ➀ Enter Setup mode by pressing SETUP and together, and holding for 5 ➁ Enter the bypass mode (refer to bypass instructions below). ➂ When in bypass mode, press and hold until the lift reaches its full down position. ➃ Once the lift is in the full down position, check to see whether the horizontal flashing bar is in the lower left-hand corner of the display. If it is not, press. The lift position and the controller will now be synchronized and you may proceed with extension programming. ➄ Press SETUP until EP appears in the display. ➅ Press. The extension height can now be programmed. ➆ Press and hold until the desired height is reached. ➇ To lock in the height setting, press SETUP until the display shows the next available function (in this case, A.rc). ➈ Exit setup mode. Arc Add Remote Control Use to add a second remote control to the controller memory. ➁ Press SETUP until A.rc appears in the display. ➂ Press any button on the remote control that is to be added. Press repeatedly until -.1.r or -.2.r appears in the controller display. The number 1 or 2 designates which remote is being added. If no number shows up after several attempts, clear the memory with the C.rc function (see below) and try again. Crc Clear Remote Control Used to clear all remote control information from the controller memory. ➁ Press SETUP until C.rc appears in the display. ➂ Press and together, and hold until the display goes blank. ➃ Proceed to A.rc, or exit setup mode. Cu.d Current Down Used to set the maximum current limit for downward movement. This is one of the safety features of the lift. When the controller senses the current limit you have set, it will stop its downward movement, reverse itself, and travel upward several inches. This feature only works when Electrical Current/Load Monitoring is displayed. (See also the section on Electrical Current/Load Monitoring below.) ➁ Press SETUP until Cu.d appears in the display. ➂ Press once. The last programmed current value appears in the display. ➃ Press or to change to the desired value. ➄ To confirm and lock in this value, press SETUP until the next available function appears, (in this case Cu.U). ➅ Exit setup mode. Cu.U Current Up Used to set the maximum current limit for upward movement. This feature only works when Electrical Current/Load Monitoring is displayed. (See also the section on Electrical Current/Load Monitoring below.) ➁ Press SETUP until Cu.U appears in the display. ➂ Press once. The last programmed current value appears in the display. ➃ Press or to change to the desired value. ➄ To confirm and lock in this value, press SETUP until the next available function appears, (in this case Cu.U). ➅ Exit setup mode.
5 Flatscreen Lift by Draper, Inc. page 5 of 6 Cou Count With this function, you can determine how many times the lift has been cycled (assuming the same lift and controller have been paired since new). A cycle is one complete lifting/lowering action. To see how many times the lift has been cycled, do the following: ➁ Press SETUP until Cou appears in the display. ➂ Pressing displays the number of cycles (up to 999). ➃ Pressing displays the number of cycles in thousands. ➄ Exit Setup mode. byp Bypass This is the temporary bypass mode. In this mode, the controller temporarily ignores all previously programmed instructions. IT ALSO IGNORES ALL THE PROGRAMMABLE SAFETY FUNCTIONS AND FEATURES. PLEASE EXERCISE CAUTION WHEN USING THIS FEATURE! The bypass feature may be used in special situations. For example, a programmed controller might be removed from a shorter lift model and then connected to a taller lift model. During operation of the taller lift, the lift may stop before reaching the bottom of its travel, because the controller is still programmed for the shorter lift, and assumes that it has already reached the bottom limit of travel for the shorter lift. To use the bypass feature, do the following: ➁ Press SETUP until byp appears in the display. ➂ Use or to move the lift up or down as desired. ➃ Exit Setup mode. Use this function to exit and lock the Setup mode, thereby preventing inadvertent changes to the settings or tampering by unauthorized persons. To exit Setup and lock access to the Setup mode: ➀ Press SETUP until appears in the display. ➁ Press to exit and lock the Setup mode. ELECTRICAL CURRENT/LOAD MONITORING One of the built-in safety features of the lift is based upon the fact that the harder the lift motor has to work, the more current it will draw. Should the lift encounter any unusual resistance during its travel, the current being drawn by the motor will increase rapidly. If there were no automatic means of cutting power to the motor, the result could be personal injury or damage to the motor or the lift. For this reason, the controller is designed to sense when the current being drawn exceeds a certain limit, and will instantly cut power to the motor, which immediately stops the lift. Please Note: This feature only works when Electrical Current/Load Monitoring is displayed. Monitoring the Current It is possible to monitor the current being drawn by the motor while the lift is in motion. Simply press SETUP while the lift is going up or down. The actual current being drawn by the lift will be shown (in amps) in real time on the controller display. This feature may also be used to detect gradual changes in current draw that could give an early indication of an impending internal mechanical failure (such failures are rare, but they can occur). Please Note: This feature must be on for Electrical Current/Load Monitoring to work. Setting the Current Limits Because the lift is designed to accommodate a wide variety of screens of various sizes and weights, it is important that the current limits be adjustable to the values appropriate to the weight of the screen being used. With this lift and controller, it is possible to set the upper current limit to any value desired within the normal operating range, which is 4.5 to 6.5 amps, depending on the weight of the screen. The reading should never exceed 8.0 amps, which is the factory default setting. To set the limit for upward travel: ➀ Run the lift up with the planned load. ➁ Monitor the current and note the maximum reading. ➂ Using the Current Up feature (see above), set the limit to 1 amp higher than the maximum reading noted. To set the limit for downward travel: ➃ Run the lift down with the planned load. ➄ Monitor the current and note the maximum reading. ➅ Using the Current Down feature (see above), set the limit to 1 amp higher than the maximum reading noted. Example: During upward travel, you note that the maximum reading is 3 amps. Use Current UP to set the limit at 4 amps. Please Note: This feature only works when Electrical Current/Load Monitoring is displayed. Plugging TV into Controller for Power TV can be plugged into outlet on Controller to power the TV. The outlet is fused to protect the TV from power surges. The outlet provides power only when the lift is fully up, and cuts power as soon as it starts going down. CC/12VT Port The Second RJ12 terminal from the left, marked CC/12VT, is a combined Contact Closure and 12 Volt Trigger port. Pin 4 Pin 3 Pin 2 Pin 1 Contact Closure uses pins 1,2,3,4 and works as follows: GND (COM) Up (closing pin 4 and 3 will make the lift go up) Down (closing pin 4 and 2 will make the lift go down) Stop (closing pin 1 and 4 will stop the lift) Contact Closure can be set up as a two- or three-button system if preferred. In a two-button system, Pin 1 is not used. The lift will stop if either the up or down buttons are pressed while the lift is in motion. Contact closure also works as either a momentary or permanent closure. 12 Volt trigger uses pins 5 and 6 and works as follows: Pin 5 Pin 6 DC 12V(+) DC 12V(-) The presence of voltage on pins 5 and 6 causes the lift to go up. No voltage on pins 5 and 6 causes the lift to go down. The range of acceptable DC voltage is 8V to 18V. Sensor Port (For Future Use) The RJ9 terminal on the right, marked EMERG. sensor port, is an extra sensor port. If desired, this terminal may be used with an additional external safety switch or sensor. Using an NC switch to close Pins 2 and 4 will disable the lift. When the contacts are opened, the lift will operate again. Pin 3 in this terminal may be used to supply 12VDC power to the external sensor if required. FCC Device: This device complies with Part 15 of the FCC Rules. Operation is subject to the following conditions: (1) this device may not cause harmful interference, and (2) this device must accept any interference received including interference that may cause undesired operation.
