A 3 rd 6201 bearing is used on the opposite side of the shaft for rotor stability. See Figure 1 2. Internal Short Circuit Device In the case where there is an electrical short in the wiring system, an electronic circuit has been incorporated into the regulator system which detects and automatically cuts off the field input when the amp draw is greater than the amp capacity of the alternators output. NOTE: When a short circuit occurs in the electrical system, the alternator will automatically shut down. Once the short has been repaired, the alternator will automatically start operating. The short circuit in the wiring system can be indefinite without causing any damage to the alternator. Page 3 of 7

4 3. Incorporated Volt Meter An LED is situated in the back cover which acts as a volt meter. In the case where it is assumed that the alternator has stopped charging, remove the back cover and disconnect the wires. The LED will glow in one of the following colours: RED Below 11V; the alternator is faulty and must be replaced. YELLOW Below 12V; the alternator is faulty and must be replaced. GREEN Above 12V; the alternator is OK therefore the fault must be elsewhere. The above instructions are located on a tag inserted in the back plate. See Figure 2 4. Self-Exciting No internal relays for self-exciting. Self-excitation is achieved electronically and magnetically. This has an indefinite shelf life. 5. Internal Hour Meter An hour meter is located inside the back plate of the alternator. This may only be read by an authorised repairer and is generally used to determine any warranty disputes. 5 6. Mounting An innovated mounting has been designed to alleviate difficulty in replacing an existing alternator with the MAE Alternator. With this bracket, the hardship of aligning the fan-belt has been removed. 3 types of brackets are available: Fan- belt driven. See Figure 5 Hydraulic driven. See Figure 6 Fan-belt bas mount.
