18 Conveyor Belt Adjustment Tensioning Tools Required: o 2 1 1/8 Wrench or 2 Adjustable Wrench Be sure to check belt tension after 20 hours. Belts stretch after break in period. Read all safety warnings (See page 2) before proceeding. De-energize the device using proper LOTO procedures. Make all adjustments in small increments. o By design, the conveyor belt should have 1/16 or less clearance between it and the side frames. This assists in preventing debris from getting under the belt however some side rubbing is normal. Loosen jam nuts, each side of machine. (see figure below) Turn jam nuts half turn each side, repeating until belt is at proper tension. Ensure all personnel are clear and that no tools are on machine or input chute. Turn machine on. Run machine in forward, if it can be stopped with a hand it is too loose, add tension. Stop machine and turn power off. Adjust alignment by tightening take-up bolt on the side of conveyor where the belt is rubbing the side frame. o Tighten only one quarter turn at a time. Fully tighten jam nuts. Replace all guards. Turn power on. Run machine forward for five minutes. If additional tension is required, repeat the above steps JAM NUTS Note: When the machine is run in reverse the belt may run slightly off center to the either side, this is normal. The belt will stretch during the first few days of operation. This will affect alignment since the belt alignment relies in part on proper tensioning for effective tracking. POP Rev. 0 3/22/18 Page 17 of 28
19 Cutting Head Adjustment Be sure to de-energize the device using proper LOTO procedures before adjusting the Cutting Head. Note: SITES recommends using certified service personnel to adjust the cutting head if necessary. Note: Over tightening of cutting head can result in excessive wear to wear plates and cutters. This may also shorten cutter and bearing life. Note: Cutting head adjustments MUST be made on a COLD cutting head. Cleaning: Ensure that the cutting head has been thoroughly cleaned and that the cutters move freely on the shafts. Cutter clearance should be checked if any of the following conditions exist: Shred capacity drops noticeably. Media is passing through cutters without being completely shredded. Cutting head becomes extremely hot. Abnormal noise being generated from cutting head. Noticeable large gap between two cutters. To Check/Set Cutter Clearance: Tools Required: o 9/16 Wrench o 3/16 Allen Wrench Lock out machine power to prevent injury. Remove rear guard. Clean and oil the cutting head ensuring that there are no obstructions. Locate the set screws on the chain side of the cutting head. Loosen the jam nut and using an Allen wrench to turn the screws clockwise to close the gap. Once the wear plate touches the cutter, back the screw off half a turn. Tighten the jam nuts and replace all guards and covers. POP Rev. 0 3/22/18 Page 18 of 28
