1 for Fluid Power Applications SOR s Pivot Seal pressure switches are rued, field-mounted instruments that incorporate a flexible modular desin providin cost effective sensin solutions. The pressure sensin element of the Pivot Seal pressure switch is a force-balance, piston-actuated assembly sealed by an o-rin. As with all SOR pressure switches, the actual motion of the piston to actuate the micro switch is only several thousandths of an inch, resultin in minimal o-rin wear. Media pressure on the area of the piston counteracts the force of the rane sprin (adjustable by the adjustin nut screw) and moves the piston shaft and the force transmitter to directly actuate the electrical snap-action switchin element. Application Information The desin of the piston/port assembly results in the device bein well-suited for a wide variety of hih pressure fluid power (hydraulic) applications, especially where hih-shock pressures and hih-cycle rates are expected, and where normal industrial clean hydraulic fluid is used. Refer to the Quick Selection Guide section on pae 3. Corrosive service and particular customer requirements may require optional components. Refer to the How to Order section on this pae or the dedicated pae to locate optional components, such as: housins, switchin elements, o-rin seals, pressure ports and accessories. Each position in the model number, except, must have a desinator. Applications The Pivot Seal pressure switches in this catalo are suitable for a wide variety of fluid power applications. Specific application requirements can normally be met by selectin optional components, such as, switchin elements and o-rin seal. Certain applications may require customized specials. Consult area factory representative or the factory. Note: The SOR Pivot Seal is not suitable for process applications. Refer to Form 216 Pressure Vacuum Switches for Pressure Applications. 11 Glossary of Terms SOR reconizes that there is no industry convention with respect to terminoloy and definitions pertinent to pressure switches. This lossary applies to SOR. Pressure Switch A bi-stable electromechanical device that actuates/deactuates one or more electrical switchin element(s) at a predetermined discrete pressure/vacuum (Set Point) upon risin or fallin pressure/vacuum. Adjustable Rane The span of pressure between upper and lower limits within which the pressure switch can be adjusted to actuate/deactuate. It is expressed for increasin pressure. Set Point That discrete pressure at which the pressure switch is adjusted to actuate/deactuate on risin or fallin pressure. It must fall within the adjustable rane and be called out as increasin or decreasin pressure. Dead Band The difference in pressure between the increasin set point and the decreasin set point. It is expressed as typical, which is an averae with the increasin set point at mid rane for a pressure switch with the standard K switchin element. It is normally fixed (non-adjustable). Proof Pressure The maximum input pressure that can be continuously applied to the pressure switch without causin leakae or catastrophic material failure. Permanent chane of set points may occur, or the device may be rendered inoperative. Repeatability The ability of a pressure switch to successively operate at a set point that is approached from a startin point in the same direction and returns to the startin point over three consecutive cycles to establish a pressure profile. The closeness of the measured set point values is normally expressed as a percentae of full scale (maximum adjustable rane pressure). SPDT Switchin Element Sinle-Pole, Double Throw (SPDT) has three connections: C Common, NO Normally Open and NC Normally Closed, which allows the switchin element to be electrically connected to the circuit in either NO or NC state. DPDT Switchin Element DPDT is two synchronized SPDT switchin elements which actuate toether at increasin set point and deactuate toether at decreasin set point. Discrete SPDT switchin elements allow two independent circuits to be switched; i.e., one AC and one DC. The synchronization linkae is factory set, and is not field adjustable.
