Automotive Service - Inspection, Maintenance, and Repair by Tim Gilles ISBN Electrical & Electronics (A6) NATEF Standards Job Sheets by Jack Erjavec ISBN Engine Performance (A8) NATEF Standards Job Sheets by Jack Erjavec ISBN
2 OBJECTIVES METHODOLOGIES EVALUATION CRITERIA Upon completion, the student will demonstrate competencies related to completion of NATEF standards in the NATEF Electrical & Electronics (A6) and Engine Performance (A8) areas. Students will learn concepts and develop basic skills necessary to diagnose automotive electrical problems, to include electrical principles, use of basic electrical test equipment, and how to interpret wiring diagrams, and to gather and analyze information. In addition, students will diagnose and repair automotive batteries, starting, and charging, lighting systems, advanced automotive electrical systems, to include body electrical accessories, and basic computer control. Major emphasis will be in diagnostic procedures. The theory, service and diagnosis of all types of gasoline fuel systems (Including: Carburetion, Throttle Body, Port Fuel and Sequential Fuel Injection Systems) will be the other main emphasis of this class. Other areas studied will be computer controls, sensors, intake and exhaust systems, turbochargers, and emission control devices including their application and service. This class will consist of approximately 40% lecture and 60% laboratory assignments. Lab time will consist of instructor led demonstrations and hands-on student participation to complete laboratory Job Sheets as required by NATEF A6 & A8 standards. You will be evaluated on your abilities to learn and apply procedures and data and completion of assigned job sheets. Your grades will be based on the following: Midterm Exam (Electrical) 50 Points Final Exam (Fuel) 50 Points NATEF Lab Sheet Completion 200 Points Attendance & Class participation 25 Points Tech Center workshops 25 Points Total 350 Points GRADING A % B 80 89% C 65 79% D 50 64% F 0 49% Note: Students whose attendance and class participation is excellent will receive consideration if their grade percentage falls between cut points. 2
