The Model V36 Dry Type Horizontal Sidewall Sprinkler utilizes a frangible glass bulb. At the bulb s rated temperature, the sprinkler opens releasing the bulb seat assembly, causing the inner tube assembly to move, allowing the spring assembly to pivot alongside the inner tube. At this time, water flows through the sprinkler and is distributed by the deflector, in an approved discharge pattern. No. 1 Victaulic Model V36 Series Dry sprinklers should be installed in accordance with NFPA 13. These sprinklers are to be installed using a pipe wrench applied to the outer tube. When this is not possible, the proper sprinkler wrench may be used with extreme care for lengths up to approximately 18". Excessive force may distort the frame thus destroying the unit. No. 2 Dry sprinklers MUST be installed only into the outlet of a cast or malleable iron tee. No. 3 DO NOT install dry sprinklers into any couplings or threaded elbows. In addition, DO NOT install dry sprinklers into any fitting that interferes with thread penetration. NOTE : The end seal of the dry sprinkler MUST NOT bottom out in the fitting. 7 Existing UprightSprinklers APPROVED Worldwide Contacts Series ELO K-factor Upright and Pendent Sprinklers Standard Response,Standard Coverage General Description TYCO Series ELO K Standard Response, Standard Coverage Upright and Pendent Sprinklers (Ref. Figure 1) are automatic sprinklers of the fusible solder type. They are standard response, spray sprinklers that produce a hemispherical water distribution pattern below the deflector. The 11.2 K-factor, ELO-231 Sprinklers were subjected to full scale, high-piled storage, fire tests to qualify their use in lieu of 5.6 or 8.0 K-factor standard spray sprinklers for the protection of high-piled storage. Higher flow rates can be achieved at much lower pressures with the 11.2 K-factor, ELO-231 Sprinklers, making their use highly advantageous in high density applications, such as the protection of high-piled storage. Wax or lead coatings can be used to extend the life of the copper alloy components used in Series ELO-231 sprinklers beyond that which would otherwise be obtained when exposed to corrosive atmospheres. Although wax and lead coated sprinklers have passed the standard corrosion tests of the applicable approval agencies, the testing is not representative of all possible corrosive atmospheres. Consequently, it is recommended that the end user be consulted with respect to the suitability of these corrosion resistant coatings for any given corrosive environment. The effects of ambient temperature, concentration of chemicals, and gas/chemical velocity, should be considered, as a minimum, along with the corrosive nature of the chemical to which the sprinklers will be exposed. An upright intermediate level version of the Series ELO-231 Sprinklers for in-rackapplications can be obtained by utilizing the Series ELO-231 Upright Sprinkler with the WSG-2 Guard & Shield, and a pendent intermediate level version of the Series ELO-231 Sprinklers can be obtained by utilizing the Series ELO-231 Pendent Sprinkler with the WS-2 Shield. If there is a possibility of the pendent intermediate level version being exposed to mechanical damage, a G-2 Guard can be added. NOTICE The 11.2 K-factor, Series ELO-231 Upright and Pendent Sprinklers described herein must be installed and maintained in compliance with this document, as well as with the applicable standards of the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), in addition to the standards of any other authorities having jurisdiction. FM Approval Requirements The 11.2 K-factor, Model ELO-231 (TY5111, TY5211, and TY5811) Sprinklers are to be installed in accordance with the applicable control mode density/area guidelines provided by FM Global. (FM Approval guidelines may differ from UL and C-UL Listing criteria.) Operation A fusible alloy is sealed into a bronze actuating rod (center strut) by a stainless steel ball. When the alloy melts at its rated temperature, the ball is forced upward into the center strut, releasing the two ejectors and operating the sprinkler. Installation TYCO Series ELO K Standard Response, Standard Coverage Upright and Pendent Sprinklers must be installed in accordance with this section. A leak-tight 3/4 inch NPT sprinkler joint should be obtained by applying a minimum-to-maximum torque of 10 to 20 lbs.-ft. (13,4 to 26,8 Nm). A leak-tight 1/2 inch NPT sprinkler joint should be obtained by applying a minimum-tomaximum torque of 7 to 14 lbs.-ft. (9,5 to 19,0 Nm). Higher levels of torque can distort the sprinkler inlet with consequent leakage or impairment of the sprinkler. "FITTING SIDE" TOWARDS SPRINKLER FITTING WRENCH RECESS (END "A") FIGURE 2 W-TYPE 3 SPRINKLER WRENCH Do not attempt to make up for insufficient adjustment in the escutcheon plate by under- or over-tightening the sprinkler. Re-adjust the position of the sprinkler fitting to suit. The Series ELO-231 Upright and Pendent Sprinklers must be installed in accordance with the following instructions: Step 1. Pendent sprinklers are to be installed in the pendent position, and upright sprinklers are to be installed in the upright position. Step 2. With pipe thread sealant applied to the pipe threads, hand tighten the sprinkler into the sprinkler fitting. Step 3. Tighten the sprinkler into the sprinkler fitting using only the W-Type 3 Sprinkler Wrench (Ref. Figure 2), except that an 8 or 10 inch adjustable Crescent wrench is to be used for wax coated sprinklers. With reference to Figure 1, the W-Type 3 Sprinkler Wrench or the adjustable wrench, as applicable, is to be applied to the wrench flats.

Approved by the City of New York (NYC) under MEA E * Listed/Approved for a maximum ceiling temperature of 150 F (66 C) TABLE A 11.2K SERIES ELO-231 UPRIGHT & PENDENT SPRINKLERS, STANDARD RESPONSE LABORATORY LISTINGS AND APPROVALS APPROVED When installing wax-coated sprinklers with the adjustable wrench, additional care needs to be exercised to prevent damage to the wax coating on the sprinkler wrench flats or frame arms and, consequently, exposure of bare metal to the corrosive environment. The jaws of the wrench should be opened sufficiently wide to pass over the wrench flats without damaging the wax coating. Before wrench-tightening the sprinkler, the jaws of the wrench are to be adjusted to just contact the sprinkler wrench flats. After wrench-tightening the sprinkler, loosen the wrench jaws before removing the wrench. After installation, the sprinkler wrench flats and frame arms must be inspected and the wax coating re-touched (repaired) whenever the coating has been damaged and bare metal is exposed. The wax coating on the wrench flats can be retouched by gently applying a heated 1/8 inch diameter steel rod to the areas of wax that have been damaged, to smooth it backover areas where bare metal is exposed. Note: Only retouching of the wax coating applied to the wrench flats and frame arms is permitted, and the retouching is to be performed only at the time of the initial sprinkler installation. The steel rod should be heated only to the point at which it can begin to melt the wax, and appropriate precautions need to be taken, when handling the heated rod, in order to prevent the installer from being burned. If attempts to retouch the wax coating with complete coverage are unsuccessful, additional wax can be ordered in the form of a wax stick (the end of which is color coded). Only the correct color-coded wax is to be used, and retouching of wrench flats and frame arms is only permitted at the time of initial sprinkler installation. With the steel rod heated as previously described, touch the rod to the area requiring additional wax with the rod angled downward, and then touch the wax stick to the rod approximately 1/2 inch away from the area requiring retouching. The wax will melt and run down onto the sprinkler. Care and Maintenance TYCO Series ELO K Standard Response, Standard Coverage Upright and Pendent Sprinklers must be maintained and serviced in accordance with this section. Before closing a fire protection system control valve for maintenance workon the fire protection system that it controls, permission to shut down the affected fire protection system must be obtained from the proper authorities and all personnel who may be affected by this action must be notified. Sprinklers that are found to be leaking or exhibiting visible signs of corrosion must be replaced. Automatic sprinklers must never be painted, plated, coated or otherwise altered after leaving the factory. Modified or over-heated sprinklers must be replaced. Care must be exercised to avoid dam-age to the sprinklers before, during, and after installation. Sprinklers damaged by dropping, striking, wrench twist/slippage, or the like, must be replaced. Frequent visual inspections are recommended to be initially performed for corrosion resistant sprinklers, after the installation has been completed, to verify the long term potential integrity of the sprinkler coatings. Thereafter, annual inspections per NFPA 25 should suffice; however, instead of inspecting from the floor level, a random sampling of close-up visual inspections should be made, so as to better determine the exact sprinkler condition and the long term integrity of the corrosion resistant coating, as it may be affected by the corrosive conditions present. The owner is responsible for the inspection, testing, and maintenance of their fire protection system and devices in compliance with this document, as well as with the applicable standards of the National Fire Protection Association (e.g., NFPA 25), in addition to the standards of any other authorities having jurisdiction. Contact the installing contractor or product manufacturer with any questions. It is recommended that automatic sprinkler systems be inspected, tested, and maintained by a qualified Inspection Service in accordance with local requirements and/or national codes.

12 Installation Reliable s Model G XLO sprinkler mustbe installed according to NFPA Standards or the appropriate Factory Mutual Loss Prevention Data Sheets for all area/density methods of design as well as requirements of the Authority Having Jurisdiction. Model GXLO sprinklers mustbe installed with the Reliable Model H sprinkler wrench. Any other type of wrench may damage the sprinkler. A leak tightjointshould be obtained with a torque of 14 to 20 lb-ft(19 to 27 N-m) for ¾-inch NPT and ISO 7-R¾ thread sprinklers. For ½-inch NPT and ISO 7-R½ thread sprinklers the recommended installation torque is 8 to 18 lb-ft(11 to 24 N-m). Do nottighten sprinklers over the maximum recommended installation torque, because itmay cause leakage or impairment of the sprinklers. These sprinklers have demonstrated response times in laboratory tests which are five to ten times faster than standard response sprinklers. 14 At normal temperatures, the glass bulb contains the fluid in both the liquid and vapor phases. The vapor phase can be seen as a small bubble. As heat is applied, the liquid expands, forcing the bubble smaller and smaller as the liquid pressure increases. Continued heating forces the liquid to push out against the bulb, causing the glass to shatter, opening the waterway and allowing the deflector to distribute the discharging water. Model F1FR Series sprinklers provide a wide range of options where quick-response, glass bulb sprinklers are used: Pendent, recessed pendent, upright, horizontal sidewall, and vertical sidewall deß ectors K-factors of 2.8 (40 metric), 4.0 (57 metric), 4.2 (60 metric), and 5.6 (80 metric) Flush, recessed, and concealed installations See the Design and Installation Information table in this Bulletin for information on the approvals and availability of specific Model F1FR series sprinkler configurations. Model F1 and F2 recessed escutcheons, shown in Fig. 1 and 3, are a friction fit assembly allowing for 3/4-inch (19mm) and 1/2-inch (12.7mm) of adjustment, respectively. Model FP recessed escutcheons, shown in Fig. 2, provide a 1/2-inch (12.7mm) threaded adjustment. Model F1FR56 Concealed Pendent and Model F1FR56LL Concealed Pendent sprinklers are required to be used with Model CCP cover plates. A standard profile Model CCP cover plate is available that provides up to 1/2-inch (12.7mm) of cover plate adjustment. In addition, a low profile Model CCP cover plate is also available that provides up to 5/16-inch (8.0mm) of cover plate adjustment. See the Design and Installation Information and Listed and Approved Temperature Ratings tables in this Bulletin for further information on approved cover plate options. Application Model F1FR Series sprinklers are intended for use in accordance with NFPA 13, FM Property Loss Prevention Data Sheets, and the requirements of the Authority Having Jurisdiction. Care must be exercised that the k-factor, temperature rating, deflector style, and sprinkler type are in accordance with the requirements of the applicable design and installation standards. In addition, Model F1FR Series sprinklers must be used in accordance with their listings and approvals, as well as the information provided in this Bulletin. Installation Glass bulb sprinklers have orange bulb protectors or protective caps to minimize bulb damage during shipping, handling and installation. Reliable sprinkler installation wrenches are designed to install sprinklers with bulb protectors in place. Remove the bulb protector at the time when the sprinkler system is placed in service for fire protection. Removal of the bulb protector before this time may leave the bulb vulnerable to damage. Remove bulb protectors by undoing the clasp by hand. Do not use tools to remove bulb protectors. 2. APPROVED Model F1FR Series sprinklers must be installed with the Reliable sprinkler installation wrench identified in the Design and Installation Information table in this Bulletin. Any other wrench may damage the sprinkler. A leak tight sprinkler joint can be obtained with a torque of 8 to 18 lb-ft (11 to 24N-m). Do not tighten sprinklers over the maximum recommended installation torque. Exceeding the maximum recommended installation torque may cause leakage or impairment of the sprinkler. Recessed Sprinklers Model F1FR Series Recessed sprinklers are to be installed as shown in Fig. 1, Fig. 2, or Fig. 3, as applicable to the specific model being installed. The Recessed Escutcheon Data table in the Bulletin identifies the only recessed escutcheons that are permitted to be used with each Model F1FR Series Recessed sprinkler. The use of any other recessed escutcheon will void all approvals and negate all warranties. Concealed Sprinklers Model F1FR Series Concealed Pendent sprinklers are to be installed as shown in Fig. 4or Fig. 5, as applicable to the selected cover plate. Model F1FR56 Concealed Pendent and Model F1FR56LL Concealed Pendent sprinklers have a factory-installed Model CCP cup. A protective cap is installed at the factory that should remain on the sprinkler until the sprinkler is installed and should then be reinstalled on the sprinkler until the cover plate is installed. The concealed sprinkler assemblies are completed by the installation of a Model CCP push-on/thread-off cover plate assembly. The cover plate and sprinkler cup assemblies are joined using a cover plate skirt with flexible tabs for threaded engagement. A choice of two Model CCP cover plate assemblies provides either 1/2-inch (13mm) or 5/8-inch (8mm) of cover adjustment. Do not install Model F1FR Series Concealed Pendent sprinklers in ceilings which have positive pressure in the space above. Model F1FR Series Concealed Pendent sprinklers require a 2-5/8-inch (67mm) diameter hole to be cut in the ceiling. The Model RC1 wrench is used to engage the sprinkler wrenching surfaces and to install the sprinkler in the fitting. Remove the protective cap to install the sprinkler, then reinstall the protective cap until the cover plate is installed. When inserting or removing the wrench from the sprinkler/cup assembly, care should be taken to prevent damage to the sprinkler. Do not wrench any other part of the sprinkler/cup assembly. Installation is completed by removing the protective cap from the sprinkler and pushing the cover plate onto the cup. Final adjustment is made by hand turning the cover plate until the skirt flange makes full contact with the ceiling. Cover plate removal requires turning the cover plate in the counter clockwise direction. After installation, inspect all sprinklers to ensure that there is a gap between the cover plate and ceiling and that the four cup slots are open and free from any air flow impediment to the space above. Concealed cover plate/cup assemblies are listed only for use with specific sprinklers. The use of any concealed cover plate/cup assembly other than the Reliable Model CCP with Model F1FR56 Concealed Pendent and Model F1FR56LL Concealed Pendent sprinklers or the use of the Model CCP Concealed cover plate assembly on any sprinkler with which it is not specifically listed my prevent good fire protection and will void all guarantees, warranties, listings and approvals.

Check pipe ends for proper groove dimensions and to assure that the pipe ends are free of indentations and projections which would prevent proper sealing. ALWAYS USE A GRUVLOK SPF/ANVIL LUBRICANT FOR PROPER COUPLING ASSEMBLY. Thorough lubrication of the external surface of the gasket is essential to prevent pinching and possible damage to the gasket. For temperatures above 150 F (65 C) and below 32 F (0 C) use Gruvlok SPF/Anvil Xtreme Lubricant and lubricate all gasket surfaces, internal and external. See Gruvlok SPF/Anvil Lubricants in the Technical Data section of the Anvil SPF catalog for additional important information. 1Check and lubricate gasket Check gasket to be sure it is compatible for the intended service. Step 6 4Housings Remove one nut and bolt and loosen the other nut. Place one housing over the gasket, making sure the housing keys fit into the pipe grooves. Swing the other housing over the gasket and into the grooves on both pipes, making sure the tongue and recess of each housing is properly mated. Re-insert the bolt and run-up both nuts finger tight. 5Tighten nuts Securely tighten nuts alternately and equally to the specified bolt torque, keeping the gaps at the bolt pads evenly spaced. Caution: Uneven tightening may cause the gasket to pinch. Gasket should not be visible between segments after bolts are tightened. Specified Bolt Torque Specified bolt torque is for the oval neck track bolts used on SPF couplings. The nuts must be tightened alternately and evenly until fully tightened. Caution: Proper torquing of coupling bolts is required to obtain specified performance. Pipe joint separation may result in significant property damage and serious injury. 3Tighten Nuts Making sure the fitting is properly located overthe pipe hole, use a 9 /16" (14 mm) wrench to tighten the nuts alternatively to a recommended torque of ft.-lbs.
