4 SAFETY FOLLOW SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS Read and understand this operator's manual and the tractor operator's manual before operating. SAFETY BEFORE OPERATING OR SERVICING Secure drawbar pin with safety lock and lock tractor drawbar in fi xed position. All machinery should be operated only by trained and authorized personnel. To prevent machine damage, use only attachments approved by the manufacturer. Lower or securely block up elevated machinery before servicing or when leaving the equipment. Never work under a machine unless it is securely supported. Be sure that all safety shields are in place and securely latched. Always shut towing vehicle engine and hydraulic power unit engine off and remove the keys from ignition before servicing implements. Become aware of and avoid all obstacles and hazards in the path of the cart, such as power lines, ditches, etc. Avoid personal attire such as loose fi tting clothing, shoestrings, drawstrings, pants cuffs, long hair, etc. that may become entangled in moving parts. Do not allow anyone to ride on the equipment. Make sure everyone is clear before operating machine or towing vehicle. Escaping fl uid under pressure can penetrate the skin causing serious injury. Relieve pressure before disconnecting hydraulic lines or servicing hydraulic system. See hydraulic power unit manual for procedure to relieve pressure. Use a piece of cardboard or wood to detect leaks of hydraulic fl uid under pressure. Correct hydraulic leaks immediately. High-pressure fl uids can penetrate the skin and cause serious injury or death. Seek medical treatment immediately if injured by high-pressure fluids. Ensure that all applicable safety decals are installed and legible. DURING OPERATION Do not allow anyone to ride on the equipment. Never dismount from a moving tractor. Severe injury or death can occur from being run over by the cart. Regulate speed to fi eld conditions. Maintain complete control at all times. Never lubricate track when in operation. Do not leave equipment unattended with engine running. Do not attempt to operate equipment unless you are in the driver's seat. BEFORE TRANSPORTING This machine is not equipped with brakes. Ensure that the towing vehicle has adequate weight and braking capacity to tow this unit. 4
5 SAFETY DURING TRANSPORT Use good judgement when transporting equipment on highways. Regulate speed to road conditions and maintain complete control. Maximum speed of implement should never exceed 20 mph. Do not exceed 10 mph during off-highway travel. It is probable that this implement is taller, wider and longer than the towing vehicle. Become aware of and avoid all obstacles and hazards in the travel path of the equipment, such as power lines, ditches, etc. Slow down before making sharp turns to avoid tipping. Drive slowly over rough ground and side slopes. Do not transport the grain cart on roads while loaded. PRESSURIZED OIL SAFETY Route hoses and lines carefully to prevent premature failure due to kinking and rubbing against other parts. Make sure that all clamps, guards and shields are installed correctly. Check hydraulic hoses and tubes carefully. Replace components as necessary if any of the following conditions are found: - End fi ttings damaged, displaced, or leaking. - Outer covering chafed or cut and wire reinforcing exposed. - Outer covering ballooning locally. - Evidence of kinking or crushing of the fl exible part of a hose. - Armoring embedded in the outer cover. PREPARING FOR EMERGENCIES Keep a fi rst aid kit and properly rated fi re extinguisher nearby. Keep emergency numbers for fi re, rescue, and poison control personnel near the phone. Always use a board or cardboard when checking for a pressurized oil leak. High-pressure fl uids can penetrate the skin and cause serious injury or death. Seek medical treatment immediately if injured by high-pressure fl uids. Never loosen or remove any hydraulic fi tting without fi rst verifying that all fl uid pressure has been relieved. Failure to do so may result in unintended movement of all or a portion of the equipment, possibly causing severe injury or death due to crushing or cutting. Injury may also occur from contact with oil under pressure that may escape during fi tting removal. Safely relieve all fl uid pressure from hydraulic hoses before disconnecting hydraulic couplings from tractor. Do not bend or strike high-pressure lines. Do not install bent or damaged tubes or hoses. Repair all oil leaks. Leaks can cause fi res, personal injury, and environmental damage. WEARING PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT Wear clothing and personal protective equipment appropriate for the job. Wear steel-toed shoes when operating. Wear hearing protection when exposed to loud noises. Do not wear additional hearing impairing devices such as radio headphones, etc. WARNING! 16 OPERATION & MAINTENANCE TRACK ALIGNMENT FOR MODEL 1082 The dynamic alignment (or tracking) between the track guide blocks and undercarriage rollers is adjustable. If the track is misaligned, excessive wear and heating of the guide blocks can occur, signifi cantly reducing track life. Inspect track alignment on a periodic basis. Also inspect alignment immediately after any track system maintenance, or whenever guide blocks become excessively warm during use. CHECKING TRACK ALIGNMENT FOR MODEL Check track tension, using procedure under Checking Track Tension section. Readjust track tension as necessary. Fig Choose a level and smooth area of at least 200 ft. length. NOTE: Using a crowned road will give incorrect results. 3. At slow speed (5 mph or less), pull empty cart as straight as possible for at least 100 ft. 4. Bring tow vehicle and cart to a stop. Apply tow vehicle parking brake, stop engine, and remove key. 5. Block front and rear of each track and ensure that track system is fully immobilized. 6. Compare clearance between inside edges of mid-rollers and sides of guide blocks. Ideal track alignment is achieved when guide blocks are between a centered position and a minimum of 1/4" away from INNER midrollers. See Fig. 18. OM04306 NOTE: Tracks will shift slightly toward outer midrollers when cart is loaded. Tip: Guide block locations slightly beyond these values can often give satisfactory alignment. Verify suitability by roading cart at moderate speed for approximately 1 mile and checking temperature of each side of guide blocks. If guide blocks are excessively warm or tacky on either side, alignment correction is needed. 7. If either track is not aligned correctly, use the following procedure to adjust. Always recheck BOTH sides if one side is adjusted. 16
