1 SAM SPARTAN ACCURATE MEASURE DISPENSING SYSTEM INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS MODEL 681-3SAM 1. PARTS: A. SAM 3-station blend center. B. 3 pcs. 3/8" ID x 8 ft. long vinyl product supply tubing with foot valve. C. 3 pcs. 1/2" ID pre-cut fill tubing. D. 1 pc. 1/2" ID x 10 ft. long, high volume discharge tubing. E. 1 pc. 3-1/2 gallon per minute high volume proportioner. F. 3 pcs. protector screw caps. G. 2 pcs. #10 pan head 3/4" long mounting screws. H. Color-coded product identification labels and drawings for buttons, product supply tubing, spray bottle and product container. I. 13 metering tips. J. Spring discharge tubing hanger. 2. INSTALLATION: Survey the room or area and choose the most efficient location, taking into consideration water supply, easy of access for filling buckets, etc. Installation above or near the sink for the water supply is recommended. A. Mounting and Water Supply Remove the two cover retainer screws and the cover from the SAM assembly. Hold the unit in position and locate the mounting screw positions. Install the mounting screws; leaving approximately 1/8" extension between the wall and screw head. Mount the SAM blend center by inserting the screw heads through the key hole slots in the base and tighten the screws (See Figure 1). The water inlet is equipped with a female garden hose fitting (with strainer washer) for attaching a water supply hose. The fitting may be removed to permit direct connection to a 3/8" NPT pipe. The unit is designed so water can be supplied to either side by interchanging the pipe plug and the female hose fitting. Install filling shelf using enclosed template. There should be approximately 12" from the bottom of the SAM unit to the top of the filling shelf. B. PRODUCT SUPPLY Form I-425 Page 1 of 5

2 Place the product containers in a convenient location not more than 6 feet below the SAM unit. (Greater lifts will reduce injection capacities). Insert the ends with the foot valve of the 8 foot 3/8" ID vinyl tubes into the product containers. Cut the vinyl tubes to any convenient length that will allow them to extend from the bottom of the product container to the proportioner inlet barbs. First push the tubes through the bushings on the side of the case using the top hole, middle hole and bottom hole for the left side, middle and right side proportioners respectively. (See figure 1.) Use protective screw caps for 5-gallon pails. Peel off gummed labels are provided for labeling product supply tubing. C. OUTLET To install the 3 pre-cut discharge tubes, attach end to the proportioner outlets. For high volume fill, remove green 1 gallon per minute proportioner and replace with blue 3-1/2 gallon per minute flow proportioner. Attach 10 ft. of discharge hose. (See figure 1.) D. ADJUSTMENT, SAM with metering tips WARNING: USE CARE WHEN HANDLING HAZARDOUS CHEMICALS. Product dilution rates are controlled by metering tips screwed into the proportioner barb. Select a tip for each barb using the chart below as a guide. E. COLOR-CODING UNIT It is important to properly label the SAM unit under the buttons, on tubing, trigger spray bottles and product containers with the appropriate color coded label and drawing. To assure using the right product for the right application, apply the same color label under the buttons on the unit, on product supply tubing and product container. Use the same color trigger spray bottle. color-coded product identification labels (in English and Spanish) and symbols showing method of product application or surface to be cleaned should be applied under the button, on spray bottles. The following labels for application under buttons, on spray bottles and on product containers are provided: NOTE: Individual product name mylar stickers are available upon request at no charge. 1. 4 Turn water on. Hold button in until supply tube is full of concentrated product. SAM is now set to dispense any dilutable product. Depressing a push button opens the valve, allowing water to flow through the chemical proportioner that mixes chemical at the desired rate. The buttons are spring loaded to prevent accidental overflow if unattended, but may be converted to locking buttons by cutting off the tab at the notch. (See Figure 2). Pushing the button and turning it 1/4 turn clockwise at the end of its travel allows the valve to lock on. This makes it unnecessary for the attendant to hold the button in while filling large containers. Turning the button in a counter clockwise direction will release it, allowing the valve to shut off. 4. SERVICING: CAUTION: TURN OFF WATER SUPPLY BEFORE SERVICING. A. Proportioner fails to draw chemical: 1. Proportioner outlet tubing cut too short for priming. Pinch outlet tube to create back pressure which will cause unit to prime. the foot valve will keep the inlet tube primed thereafter. 2. Insufficient water supply pressure. 20 PSI is the minimum allowable pressure. B. Proportioner stops drawing chemical: 1. Inspect foot valve for dried chemical or dirt. Soak in hot water to clean. 2. Proportioner metering tip clogged with dried chemical. Remove tip and try injecting in hot water. If there is no suction, remover proportioner and soak in hot water to clear interior passages. C. Valve Malfunction: Check that the button moves freely in & out and that a "click" can be heard when the button is pushed and released, indicating that the magnet is activating the plunger properly. Remove cover. To inspect internal parts, unscrew magnet housing and carefully pull off the enclosing tube so as not to drop the plunger, kick-off spring, and spacer. Check for dirt or damage impending plunger and kick-off spring movement. Inspect the diaphragm, making sure the two small pin holes (bleed hole) in the diaphragm convolution are clear to allow the valve to close. Caution: When servicing unit, be sure that replacement parts have been installed according to drawing. Form I-425 Page 4 of 5
