3 1.0. DESCRIPTION The battery discharge test unit model ComPower CP3025/12DL is an electronic unit designed to perform controlled discharge tests and capacity measurements on stationary batteries. The unit is shown in drawing CT-7328 The unit is small and light weight, and may easily be carried to the battery to be tested. The discharge test unit is very easy to use. The only adjustments required are settings of discharge current and the final discharge voltage of the battery. The set discharge current is shown on a digital panel meter. The battery voltage as measured at the battery discharge test unit input terminals is shown on a digital panel meter. The set discharge current is automatically kept constant during the complete discharge cycle, independent on the variations of battery voltage. A low voltage detector automatically terminates the battery discharge whenever the battery voltage has reached the specified low voltage limit as set on the low voltage detector. Please note that the voltage drop in cables and connections must be taken into account in order to get the correct battery voltage (Exact readings of the battery voltage should always be taken at the battery terminals!) The number of ampere-hours provided by the battery is then displayed on the panel mounted Ah-meter. In addition, the discharge time is automatically logged on a panelmounted timer. Hence the battery ampere-hours may also be calculated to check the readings of the ampere hour meter. In order to facilitate easy storage and analysis of the data obtained during the battery discharge test, a Fluke Multimeter 89IV can be used. The Fluke 89IV has a capacity of 100 manually saved readings and 1000 automatically logged readings with a real time clock reference. All data are easily and safely transferred to a PC using an infrared (IR) optically isolated interface. Software Fluke View is provided to store, display or print the data in graphical or tabular form. 3 (7)

4 2.0. OPERATION Ref. CT-7328 An auxiliary single-phase 230VAC mains supply is connected to the rear of the unit. Before any connections are made, make sure that the "SET CURRENT" potentiometer is turned fully anti-clockwise, and that the "DC INPUT MCB" is off. The battery discharge unit is switched on by means of the front mounted "ON/OFF" rocker switch. Before commencing battery discharge, the ampere hour meter and the timer must be re-set.(push re-set button at front of instrument) The battery cables are connected by means of front mounted bayonet contacts "POSITIVE" and "NEGATIVE". The battery final discharge voltage is set on the voltage detector "LOW VOLTAGE DISCONNECT". Please remember to compensate for voltage drop in the battery cables and connections! Note that settings of low voltage must be in hole numbers. E.G 40V is "040" The battery is connected upon closing of the "DC INPUT MCB". The discharge cycle is started by pressing the "START" push-button switch, and then the required discharge current is set with potentiometer "SET CURRENT". The discharge current is shown on the digital panel meter "CURRENT". The voltage at the input terminals of the discharge test unit is shown on the digital panel meter "VOLTAGE". NB: To record the exact battery voltage, measurements have to be taken at the battery terminals, due to the voltage drop in the battery cables and connections. An automatic power limiting circuit computes the product of discharge current and voltage. The discharge current can not be increased beyond the limit set by this circuit. During power limit lamp "POWER LIMITING" is lit. The ampere-hours provided by the battery during the test is shown on panel meter "AMPERE HOURS". 4 (7)

5 In addition, the discharge time is recorded on panel meter "TIMER". Hence an exact calculation of the battery ampere hours may be done from the readings of the timer and current panel meter. FRONT VIEW OF TEST UNIT 5 (7)
