2 Roller Blinds Elegant and Efficient A modern façade with plenty of clear glass will offer its occupants an excellent contact with the outdoors, but it will require an efficient solar control system, because the sun s energy will cause overheating, and too much daylight will cause glare and annoying reflections on computer screens. The Hunter Douglas designers and engineers have successfully developed an elegant roller blind system, specially designed for long lasting durability as well as ease of installation. Its discrete design and refined details offer a range of solutions for classic and contemporary buildings. The external solutions will help keep the temperature under control and reduce or eliminate the need for air conditioning. The internal solutions will regulate the amount of sunlight entering the room and eliminate glare and blinding.

Visual comfort Personal control Thermal comfort Acoustical comfort FABRICS Fibreglass screen fabric is an environmentally friendly solution for sun shading. Fibreglass is a natural mineral with unique mechanical properties, that makes it very durable. The weaving and production process do not consume a great deal of energy and the waste is limited and completely recyclable. VISUAL COMFORT Hunter Douglas solar shading with fibreglass cover tempers the light inside a building. The open structure of the fabric lets diffuse daylight through while blocking direct rays. Choosing an appropriate solar shading cover provides a balanced light diffusion in the working space. It also provides an optimal lighting of the working surface, reduces or eliminates reflections on computer screens, and prevents blinding or severe lighting contrasts. It maintains the view to the outside thanks to the transparency of the fabric. The openness factor and the colour of the cover play an important role in this context. Indoor air quality CHOOSING THE RIGHT COVER To obtain a tailor-made solution when choosing solar shading with fibreglass, some basic principles need to be taken into account. Reflection, transmission, and absorption vary depending on fabric characteristics. A high reflection keeps out the heat better but lets less light in. A high transmission keeps out less heat but lets more light in and maintains good visibility to the outside. Fibreglass in a darker colour, and therefore with more absorption, best prevents blinding and reflections on computer screens. THERMAL COMFORT Using a fibreglass cover has a great influence on the inside temperature. The transmission, reflection and absorption of the cover determine the g-value, in relation to the type of glass. Solar shading with fibreglass can reduce solar light transmittance by up to 90%, and consequently limits heat build-up in a building. As practice shows, the cooling load, and therefore the power consumption of the air-conditioning installation, is greatly reduced.

5 FABRIC QUALITIES EXTERNAL BLINDS Screen fabrics for external application are available in a wide range of colours in two different structures, Sergé and Basket. As an alternative, a decorative sun protection acrylic fabric is available. SERGÉ grey Sergé 2165 fabric is a heavy, PVC coated glass fibre fabric, specially developed for external use. This fabric comes in a twill weave and has an openness factor of 3%. Because of the construction of the fabric, and depending on the colour, the front and backside of this fabric may have a different appearance. (uni-colour) SERGÉ linen-white Basket 2120 fabric is a PVC coated glass fibre fabric, that combines excellent solar properties and visual comfort with a small roll-up diameter. It is made in a basket weave and has an openness factor of 4%. Both front and back side have the same appearance. Acrylic fabric combines excellent solar properties with a decorative appearance. Natte 2115 PVC coated fibre glass fabric with a basket weave. The openness factor of 10% ensures an excellent view to the exterior and admits natural daylight to a high degree. Panama is a PVC coated fabric with a basket weave. It is available in three different openness factors, 3%, 5% or 10%. This enables the application of the same fabric throughout a building, serving different purposes. Greenscreen eco is made of 100% polyester. Openness factor 4%. Combines excellent solar properties and visual comfort with a small roll-up diameter. Greenscreen platinum is made of 100% polyester with a metalized backside for improved solar reflectance. The openness factor is 2%.

8 Technical Specifications EXTERNAL ROLLER BLINDS The system comes in three types with a slightly curved design for a modern but yet distinguished appearance. Installation on top of the side guides eliminates direct mounting of the headboxes in recess or on face. The fabric can roll away from or towards the window (headboxes 105, 115 and 80) according to the window situation. Headboxes Self supporting headbox, made of extruded aluminium, housing the complete mechanism and fabric for maximum protection against weather influences. Available in five sizes: 115 x 105 mm, 105 x 115 mm, round headbox Ø 105 mm, 80 x 86 mm and 65 x 72 mm. Boxes have service covers for easy access to the system. End plates Made of die cast alloy, supporting the stainless steel end bearings and arbor for mounting into the side guides or for attaching the stainless steel guide cables. Roller tube Made of galvanized steel 63 x 1 mm (headbox 105 & 115) or specially shaped extruded aluminium profiles 47 mm (headbox 80) or 35 mm (headbox 65), providing optimal support of the fabric in combination with small roll up diameters. Bottom bar Made of extruded aluminium and housing the lead inserts for maximum tension on the fabric. Designed in such a way that it can disappear to a great extent into the headbox, thus limiting the total height of the construction. The elegant design gives the same appearance in all positions. Operation - With gearbox and crank rod for all types. - With electrical tubular motor, 220 V-50 Hz, incorporated in the roller tube (except for the headbox 65). 9 Side guiding - By extruded aluminium side guides with PVC insert for noise reduction, in rectangular or round shape. - Available in single or double version for coupled blinds. - By a stainless steel cable, suspended from the headbox to guide cable brackets and tensioned by a special tensioning bolt at sill level. Fabric High quality screen fabric with welded edges for maximum fabric strength in Sergé or Basket quality according to the quality/colour selector. Surface treatment All profiles are anodised or polyester powder coated to a standard RAL colour. End plates are always polyester powder coated to match the headbox colour. MARKISOLETTE The Markisolette system offers both an excellent solar shading as well as an unobstructed view to the outside. It can be supplied with screen fabric or as an option with highly decorative acrylic fabric. Headbox Slightly curved headbox design. Made of extruded aluminium 115 x 105 mm, housing the complete system, including the intermediate roller tube, which completely disappears in the headbox when the blind is retracted, alternatively: round headbox Ø 105 mm, housing the complete system. End plates End plates of die cast alloy supporting the whole system on top of the side guides. Intermediate roller tube made of extruded aluminium, 30 mm diameter, fitted in between the slide bars by spring loaded end plugs, allowing the tube to roll freely during movement of the fabric. Front bar Made of extruded aluminium, in a specially designed shape to have maximum stiffness and optimal freedom of the bar when dropping the blind. Slide bars Made of stainless steel. Supporting the intermediate roller tube and the drop arms. Drop arms Tubular section, made of extruded aluminium, 600 mm long, to provide for the required projection, as well as housing the wind resistance device. Connected to the slide bars and the front bar by high performance plastic components. Wind resistance Heavy duty stainless steel cable incorporated in the hinge of the arm profile, combined with a gas cylinder in the arm profile. Provides a high tension on the fabric resulting in an optimal resistance to windload and minimum movement of the fabric. Side guiding By means of aluminium side guides, with PVC insert for noise reduction, rectangular or round as an option.
