14 Vehicle Excise Duty and Company Car Taxation Vehicle Excise Duty The amount of Vehicle Excise Duty (VED) payable on new cars varies depending on the level of carbon dioxide (CO 2 ) emissions produced by the vehicle. CO 2 emissions are measured in grammes (g) per kilometre (km) travelled and divided into charging bands for each fuel type as shown in the table opposite. Automatic Transmission Due to the change in CO 2 emissions with the fitment of automatic transmission, the VED may also change.
