1 Number 54 Fall 2007 Gerry Szymanski, Editor 2007 Fall Meeting set for SUNY at Fredonia The New York State/Ontario Chapter of the Music Library Association will meet this October on the shores of Lake Erie at one of the largest music schools in the state university system: the College at SUNY Fredonia. NYS/O will meet at the Reed Library on the SUNY Fredonia campus on Friday, October 19 th, Inside this newsletter you will find a schedule, a registration form, directions and overnight information. See inside for more details. Message from the Chair Hello everyone, It s hard to believe that it s almost meeting time again where has the year gone? Kevin Michki has planned a lovely meeting for us at SUNY Fredonia for Friday, October 19, and he has promised that, unlike last year, there will be NO SNOW!! We will have a one-day event this year, with an evening campus production of The Rocky Horror Picture Show for those who would like to stay overnight on Friday. The campus of the State University of New York at Fredonia is located in the Western New York county of Chautauqua. By car Directions via New York State Thruway Take I 90 to Exit 59 (Dunkirk & Fredonia). After toll booth continue straight until you come to a "T" intersection with Central Avenue. Turn left onto Central Ave. Turn right onto campus at the next stoplight Turn left onto Academic Avenue Turn right onto Science Drive. Park at any available space (non-metered) in lots 25, 16, or 19a (see map) Enter Reed Library by way of McEwen Hall (see map), and follow signs to the library entrance Directions via I-86 (formerly Rt. 17 Southern tier Expressway) / Rt. 60 North I-86 to Route 60 north exit at Jamestown Remain on Rt. 60 north until you reach the intersection of Rts. 60 & 20 in Fredonia, about 25 miles. Turn left on Rt. 20 and proceed to Temple/Water Street. The airport is 50 miles from Fredonia. Click here to link to the Buffalo Niagara International Airport home page. By train Amtrak (1-800-USA-RAIL) runs a line to Exchange Street Station in Buffalo, NY. From there it is a quick walk to the Buffalo Metro (Bus) Station for a connection to Fredonia. By bus Tickets for Empire Transit, New York Trailways and Greyhound bus service are available through our Central Ticket Office (716) The Buffalo Metro Station is the main connection for New York Trailways and Greyhound buses, enabling travel throughout the United States. Empire Transit runs 5 daily buses between Jamestown, NY and Buffalo, making numerous stops in-between. The ride from Buffalo to Fredonia is usually under 1.5 hours.

5 5 - NYS/O News Fall 2007 Old Mason Hall, home of the SUNY Fredonia Music Department hopefully, not how we will be seeing it! New Mason Hall, added to the complex in the 1970s. The newly constructed Juliet J. Rosch Recital Hall offers concerts in a superb acoustical setting.

Encourage them to attend the 2008 NYS/O annual meeting in Fredonia! With their paid NYS/O membership (a bargain at $5.00), we ll waive the registration fee for this year s conference.
