4 Prestarting checks A It is of utmost importance to be fully conversant with all devices, controls and instruments as well as with their respective functions before starting the tractor. 5 Working with Tractor and Implements A Be particularly careful when coupling up trailers and implements. The coupling hooks for the trailer hitch shall correspond to DIN (40 mm inside diameter of the lunette or coupling hook). Coupling hooks as per DIN (0 mm inside diameter of the lunette or coupling hook) are not permissible. Mount trailers and implements only with the specified devices. The specified permissible coupling loads of the trailer hitches and swinging drawbarsare related to the respectively largest possible rear wheel tyres. Depending on the rear wheel tyres mounted respectively. these values may be lower. 6 Universal Shaft - Never work on the Universal Shaft with the Engine running! A When working with PTO shaft powered implements, the pivot respectively rotating point of the implement should be possibly located in the center of the universal shaft. When attaching the universal shaft, it must be ensured that the tubes are adequately overlapping under all operating conditions. Tubes which are too long and cannot be pushed further into each other when negotiating bends will cause damage to the PTO shaft and to the universal joints. Tubes which are too short can be pulled out of engagement, thus causing accidents. Always keep the universal shaft well greased, protect it from any damage and do not apply force when sliding the shaft on. Oil Level at Stationary, Continuous Operation At stationary and continuous operation of the PTO shaft, the oil level is required to be increased in the transmission of the following tractors: increase by appro /627 - increase by appro 1. Engage range shift lever into range L. Continuous PTO Shaft Operation in Inclined Positions The oil levels increased by appr. 3 I on tractors and by appro I on tractors 626/627 in the transmissions render possible a continuous PTO shaft operation towards all sides up to an inclination of appro 20% = 11. As regards inclinations beyond this value, only a short-time PTO shaft operation is permissible both under stationary and under tractor driving conditions. No restrictions in respect of transverse inclinations (i. e. no forward or backward inclination). 7

7 S ~.. ~... :~ N H r":.' /t :; ll~ ~.: Ii ::'l Control of Auxiliary Working Cylinders Operation of Auxiliary Control Valves SO 60 (without CabNarioCab) Shifting Positions of Auxiliary Control Valves SO 60 (without CablVarioCab) A maximum of 3 auxiliary control valves (2 intermediate units and 1 terminal unit) can be mounted to the hydraulic lift resp. power lift in orderto operate implements with separate working cylinders. As a rule, the power lift contains the oil volume which is required for the hydraulic actuation of the implements. If implements are used which have large, single-acting working cylinders, e. g. tipper trailers, an auxiliary oil tank will be required. For available oil volumes and specified filling volumes, see 'Technical Data'. All levers can be actuated conveniently by the driver. The arrangement of the potential levers 1, 2 and 3 corresponds to the order ofthe flanges on the power lift (see Fig.119). The actuating levers can be locked in position by means of a swivel-type locking mechanism 4 so as to avoid an unintended actuation. Order of the 3 shifting positions: = Lowering N = Neutral H = Lifting Detent position for auxiliary control valve I (single or double-acting) in the positions 'lifting' (H) and 'lowering' (). All fastening bolts and nuts of the front and rear wheels are to be retightened after 20 hours of operation in accordance with the required torques (page 203). This retighening specification must also be observed after each track adjustment and each replacement of tyres! The particular bolt connections to be retightened are described in the respective chapters under "Front wheel track adjustment" and "Rear wheel track adjustment". 9 Ballast Rule: "As light as possible" and "as heavy as necessary" A To increase the axle pressure and, thus, the ground pressure, to maintain a safe steering behaviour and to compensate the weight of the less loaded axle (e. g. front-end loader operation = rear axle relieved from load, heavy three-point mounted implements = front axle relieved from load), it is absolutely necessary to mount ballast weights. The corresponding instructions of the suppliers of implements/front-end loaders must be observed! For reasons of safety in traffic and to prevent accidents, observe the permissible tyre inflation pressures, the permissible axle loads and the permissible gross vehicle weight. For service and maintenance, the panels and engine hood can be removed and/or lifted.
