LONG travel shock absorbers listed provide maximum 50mm lift, in some cases only cater for 30mm lift. Observe notes for more information. Note 1: Raising short wheel base vehicles can cause drive-line issues, and may require further modifications. Exercise caution when raising. Note 2: HJ 75 with raised rear suspension can be fitted with SP1. This shock absorber will provide stiffer damping forces than normal replacement, and 20mm more open length. Note 3: Post- Sep/91, 80 series Landcruisers can be fitted with part numbers and provided longer coil springs are also fitted. Fitment of longer coils will raise the body of this vehicle 50-60mm, resulting in a greater ride height than pre- Sep/91 models. Note 4: Due to technical reasons, the torsion bar suspension on this vehicle prohibits the use of long travel shock absorbers. A maximum hub to guard dimension of 530 mm is strongly recommended SP1 is 11mm longer than standard (open length). Note 5: There are a number of technical reasons why independent front suspension 4WD s should not be raised. Dampers noted (note 5) are only slightly longer (0-30mm raise only). Adjustment can be made to fine tune the damper to perform with higher spring rates and extra demands, a common scenario with many four wheel drive vehicles. REBOUND ADJUSTMENT FOR A TWIN TUBE KONI SHOCK ABSORBER: Series 80, 82, 86, 87, 88, 90, 8040, Remove the shock absorber from the vehicle and hold it vertically with the lower eye or pin attached in a vise. Use clamp plates to prevent damage. 2. Fully collapse the shock absorber, at the same time turning the dust cap or piston rod slowly to the left (counterclockwise), until it is felt that the cams of the adjustment nut engage in the recesses of the foot valve assembly. 3. Some shock absorbers include a bump rubber concealed under the dust cover and it must be removed prior to adjusting. 4. The damper may have already been adjusted. Therefore check whether the shock absorber is in the adjustment position or not by keeping it collapsed and gently turning it further to the left counting at the same time the half turns until a stop is felt. Stop turning then and do not use force. 5. Keeping the shock absorber collapsed, make 1 half turn (180 degrees) to the right (clockwise). In case of prior adjustment add the number of half the turns previously found. The total range is about 5 half turns. 6. Pull the shock absorber out vertically without turning for at least 1 cm to disengage the adjusting mechanism. The dust cap or piston rod may now be turned freely. Adjustment Direction: Clockwise: Firmer Counter Clockwise: Softer Rebound adjustable, the adjustment is made with the shock fully compressed. REBOUND ADJUSTMENT FOR A MONO TUBE KONI SHOCK ABSORBER: Series 26, 28, Remove the dust cover and expose the adjusting button. 2. Hold the damper body by hand where the piston rod emerges from the cylinder. Push the button carefully, by hand, and hold it in that position. (Do not use any device, other than by hand to depress button). 3. The adjusting device has been provided with a number of clearly distinguishable stops (clicks), each of which marks an adjustment position (zero + 3 clicks = 4 positions). 4. The damper may have already been adjusted earlier. Therefore, check whether the shock absorber is in the adjustment position by turning the piston rod to the left (counterclockwise) with the other hand until the zero-stop is felt DO NOT USE FORCE! 5. To increase rebound, turn the piston rod one or more clicks to the right (clockwise), and release the adjusting button. 6. Be sure the adjusting button fully springs back into position. As long as the button is depressed, do not turn the piston rod further; otherwise correct adjustment will be disturbed. As soon as the button has made its complete return, the piston rod may be turned freely. 7. The damper can now be refitted. Adjustment Direction: Clockwise: Firmer Counter Clockwise: Softer Rebound adjustable, the adjustment is made with the shock fully extended.
