3 Introduction to Telescopic Seating Section I: Introduction to Telescopic Seating The ability to use a facility for multiple events is the true benefit of Telescopic Seating. The flexibility achieved with Telescopic Seating allows a facility to accommodate a variety of events, maximizing facility use and maximizing revenues. Telescopics provide the versatility needed to host any number of events within the same facility, by simply reconfiguring the seating to accommodate the particular needs of an event. For example, a single facility can be designed to hold the following events: Soccer, Basketball, Volleyball, Badminton, Table Tennis, Concerts, etc. etc. Telescopic (retractable) seating can be moved in or out to create more space or seating, depending on the needs of the event. Telescopics can also be portable, which means they can be moved around or completely removed to provide access for performers, trucks etc.. This guide will introduce you to the multitude of possibilities available by designing your facility with Telescopic Seating. of the above venues, and several others, are displayed for your review. These layouts reinforce the point that Telescopic Seating can maximize facility use while meeting the needs of spectators for all kinds of events. This translates into maximum revenue for any facility. This guide also describes and illustrates the types of Telescopic Products available while covering basic Telescopic Terminology and Definitions. With this guide, you will become familiar with the components of a Telescopic Seating System and the unique yet versatile options it provides.

4 Product Types Section II. Product Types Depending upon the dimensions and projected use of a particular building, five basic telescopic products are available that will allow for a variety of seating configurations or layouts. This section will identify these basic products and highlight their individual features and benefits. Section IV. will illustrate the versatility of telescopic systems by showing several event configurations utilizing telescopic seating. Wall Attached Wall attached systems are the simplest and most economical way to utilize versatile telescopic seating. Typically available with up to 30 rows, wall attached units may be manually operated or include an integral power system for easier operation. This system is mounted directly to a back wall and to the floor and opens in a forward motion. Rear cut-outs or truncations may be required for walls with column projections or other obstructions. Use Standard Sections For Economy: Banks of seating are made of individual sections. To achieve maximum economy, use standard size section lengths and minimize the number of sections in each bank of seating. Truncations: These special cutouts of one or more rows create space for access orobstructions (columns, portable backstops, wheelchair access, etc.) Ceiling Clearances: Allow a minimum of 7' (2.1m) from top of stand. Watch for overhead piping, air ducts, lights, backstops, building truss work, etc. Operating Clearance: Recommended distance of 3.5" (8.9cm) from end of stand (including rails to wall or obstructions. Wall Requirements: The wall to which the platform will be attached should have adequate load carrying capabilities. Ideally, the wall should also be free of obstructions however, cutouts for columns or other projections can be utilized to ensure proper and safe attachment of system to the wall. Floors: Floors should be able to accept a point loading of less than 300 lbs. per square inch (2.068 N/mm 2 ). Synthetic flooring surfaces should be static load tested to determine compatibility. If a resilient floor material is utilized, it is recommended that a concrete apron be incorporated into the building design to provide a solid base for system storage. Portable Portable telescopic systems may be moved from location to location and allow for a variety of seating arrangements. These systems are equipped with integral or free-standing mechanical transport systems to facilitate movement of individual units. Back panels and rear rails are normally included for safety and aesthetic reasons. Height limitations typically apply due to weight considerations. These systems are not available for use in balconies. Portable System Limitations: 15 rows at 9 5/8 (24 cm) rise, 12 rows at 11 5/8 (30 cm) rise, 10 rows at 16 (41 cm) rise. Special engineering may be required above these limits. Movement of Portables: Plan for smooth floor transitions. Operating over thresholds, expansion joints, or up ramps may not be possible. These systems are not recommended for use on synthetic flooring. Back Panels, Rails and End Curtains: Back Panels, Rear Rails and End Curtains should be installed on portable units for safety reasons. Back rails prevent a spectator from falling from last row of the stand. Back panels and End Curtains help to prevent access to the unit's understructure.

5 Product Types Recessed Recessed systems are commonly utilized in arenas or gymnasiums that also have balcony seating. A recess area is created by extending the balcony over the main floor and using this area as a storage space for the retracted telescopic seating on the main floor. This recess provides additional space for the balcony seating above and creates more usable space on the main floor when system is fully retracted. Recessed units are forward fold and available in manual or powered operation. Recess Opening Sizing: Clearance from underside of recess area to top seat should be a minimum of 4 inches (10.2 cm). A minimum of 6 inches (15.2 cm) free space is required on the ends of each unit. Balcony Access: Recessed units often provide access to balcony seating. To accomodate such access, it is necessary to coordinate balcony height with the height of the platform below in order to facilitate a smooth transition from the top deck of the platform to the walking surface of the balcony. Free-Standing Free-Standing systems are similar to Portable systems, but are permanently attached to the floor. This type of telescopic system is recommended for use when wall attachment is not feasible (example: lack of a load capable wall or because distance from wall to court is excessive). Back panels, rear rails and end curtains should be included for safety and aesthetic reasons. Reverse Fold Reverse Fold telescopic systems are generally used in balcony applications to recover balcony floor space for use as multi-purpose activity areas. With Reverse systems, the first row is fixed to the floor and the entire section moves in a reverse direction until fully open. An optional delayed action linkage system allows the entire closed unit to be moved forward to recover additional floor space normally utilized as front aisle space when the unit is in the open position. As with Portable and Free-Standing systems, Reverse Fold systems normally include back panels, rear rails and end curtains for safety and aesthetic reasons. Back Panels and Rails: Back Panels and Rails are required on reverse fold units for safety reasons. Back rails prevent a spectator from falling from last row of the stand if stand is not in fully open position. Back panels help to prevent access to understructure. Floors: Flooring must be of a structure to allow first row frame to be anchored securely. Ceiling Clearances: Allow a minimum of 7' (2.1 m) from top deck of stand. Watch for overhead piping, air ducts, lights, backstops, building truss work, etc. Front Clearance: The front of a reverse fold unit must have a 1 foot (30 cm) clearance from any obstruction to allow access to front skirt board. Free Standing System Limitations: 20 rows at 9 5/8 (24 cm) rise, 17 rows at 11 5/8 (30 cm) rise, 12 rows at 16 (41 cm) rise. Back Panels and Rails: Back Panels and Rails are required on free standing units for safety reasons. Back rails prevent a spectator from falling from last row of the stand while back panels help to prevent access to understructure. Floor: Flooring must be of a structure to accept sound anchoring of the rear row frames.

6 Telescopic Terminology and Definitions Section III: Telescopic Terminology & Definitions Telescopic Seating Systems are comprised of numerous individual parts or components. Along with these components, a variety of seating options and accessories are available. This section highlights the basic components included in a telescopic system and many of the options and accessories that may be added in order to customize or upgrade a system or facility. Telescopic Basics: Section: A section is made up of three major components; deck assembly, seat options and understructure. Standard section widths vary from 9 feet [2743mm] to 25.5 feet [7772mm]. Bank: A bank of seating refers to layout with more than one section configured to operate together. Bank lengths can vary depending on the facility and application. Row / Tier: Each row or tier includes the structure associated with that row and the CourtSide seats, Classic Wood Seats or Metro chairs. Rise: The vertical dimension from deck to deck or seat to seat. Row Spacing: The horizontal dimension from deck to deck or seat to seat. Closed Dimension: The dimension from the wall or rear rail to the front of the first seating row with the seating system in the closed (stored, retracted) position. Open Dimension: The dimension from the wall or rear rail to the front of the first aisle step with the seating system in the used or open position Deck: A deck assembly contains the following key components: continuously supported decking, nose, rear riser and seat. Overall Unit Height: The dimension from the floor to the top of the highest component on the top row. Top Deck Height: The dimension from the floor to the top of the deck on the top row. With bench seating this is 6 1/2" [165mm] less than the Overall Unit Height. Section Gap: Space between sections is required on manually operated banks to provide adequate operating clearance. This will ensure that if the sections do not open straight they will not bind and damage the seating system. Operating Clearance: This spacing is required at the end of sections or end of rails to any obstruction or wall. This is to ensure that if the seating system does not open straight it will not bind and damage the system or building. Seating Options: Wood Seats: Wood seat and riser boards should be Grade "B&B" Southern Pine. Wood boards should have at least two seperately UV coats of clear urethane for a finish that is durable and smooth. Plastic Seats: Plastic seat modules are true color injection molded polyethelene with internal support ribs and have a subtle curved seat for added comfort. Fold-Down Chairs: Plastic or upholstered fold-down chairs combine the comfort of fixed seating with the versatility of telescopic seating. Fold-down chairs require 30" [762] or 33" [838] row spacing. Backrests: Backrests provide extra lower back support and fold manually onto the deck directly behind a row of seats when not in use. Backrests require row spacing of 30" [762] or 33" [838] row spacing.

7 Telescopic Terminology and Definitions Accessories: Manual Operation: Manually operated seating systems are required to be opened and closed by an outside force (people). The seating banks are configured by using multiple sections together with the proper section gaps to allow for any side to side travel. Integral Power: Integral powered banks are multiple sections mechanically connected to operate as one unit. Powered frames are configured to the first, second or last row to automatically open and close the seating system at the push of a button. Integral Power may be used on both forward and reverse fold systems. Aisle: An aisle allows access / egress to the seating in the open position. Detachable Front Step: A front step used to reduce the rise of the first step. This step must be removed and placed on the first deck when the system is closed. Intermediate Aisle Step: Step between decks used to reduce step height. Intermediate Aisle Steps are required. Tapered Section: A Tapered section is basically a standard section with the ends cut to form a taper. This process adds cost and complexity to the overall product. Center Aisle Hand Rails: Center Aisle Hand Rails are required by most U.S. building codes. A Center Aisle Rail is a Q shapesd rail that is removeable and can be rotated for storage when not in use. Railed Ends: Railed Ends located at each end of the stand are typically required on units which are not wall-to-wall. Rails act as safeguards and prevent individuals from falling off the edge of the stand. Rear Rails & Front Rails: Rear Rail & Front Rail requirements are typically determined by local building codes to provide added safety from falling off the edge of the stand. Rear rails are commonly utilized on portable, reverse fold and free-standing units while front rails are generally utilized on truncated sections. End Panels: End Panels are plywood or Poly deck and are located at the end of the closed section to improve appearance and prevent debris from accumulating behind the unit. Rear Panels: Rear Panels are used primarily on portable, reverse fold and free standing sections to improve the appearance and to keep spectators out from underneath the structural part of the system Flex-Row: The Flex-Row system allows any user to manually operate individual first row modules when the system is in either the open or closed position. This creates a custom seating area for gym class, practices, impromptu meeting/ gatherings or ADA requirements all with the benefit of not having to find a facility manager, AD, or whom ever may be trained to operate the system. Handicap Cutouts: Handicap cutouts can be located at the end of banks or at the end of section. Handicap cutouts permanently remove possible seat spaces even if the ADA space is not occupied. Full Section Truncation: A full section truncation is when a complete row or rows of one section length is truncated. This is mainly for the use of scorers' tables at basketball courts or ganging of handicap wheelchairs. Recoverable Truncation: Recoverable Truncations allow you to manually recover multiple tiers of seating when additional floor space is not required. This feature is only available on powered systems.

8 Telescopic Terminology and Definitions Ventilating Grilles: Louvered steel warm air ventilation grilles fitted into the deck of the top row of each required section. Ample space is allowed above the front skirt panel for cool air return. Portable and Integral Dollies: Portable-Integral Dollies facilitate movement of portable telescopic seating sections. Rear Filler Board: Provided between top row and wall, a supported, flush mounted, filler (scribe fitted if required).; Filler shall be of same material and deck finish as decking. Non-Slip Tread: Non-slip treads are located on both the nose of a deck and the nose of an intermediate aisle step at the aisle locations. This helps provide a secure feel and prevent slippage. Motion Monitor: Flashing lights with selfcontained warning horn rated at 85 db at 10' [3048] mounted under Telescopic Seating for audio and visual warning during integral operation. Telescopic Seating Construction: Understructure: The understructure is an assembly of the following key inter-locking components: Slant Frames, X Bracing, Continuous Positive Interglide System and Posi-Lock LX row locks. Row Locks (Posi-Lock LX): These are activated locks which provide the locking mechanism between the lower portion of all frames. Row locks prevent seating rows from accidental closing when system is in use. There is an automatic unlocking feature when the bleacher is closed. The Posi-Lock LX features a low profile design which provides a safe storage position that eliminates the chance of being bent and compromising the reliability of the system. Upper Adjustable Interlock and Stops: The fully captive upper interlock system engages and aligns the upper portion of the frames. This is also allows for adjusting for 22" [559],24" [610], 26" [660] row spacing and 30" [762] and 33" [838] row spacing. X Bracing: The MAXAM understructure is designed with safety in mind. Coined edges and radius corners are consistent throughout the structure to provide a safe environment underneath the bleacher. Our MXM 26 has been extensively load tested and these tests have been independently verified. Through Bolt Fastening: Through bolt connections should be used at all frame, deck stabalizer, nose, rear riser and seat bracket. Deck Stabalizer: A Deck Stabalizer provides structural integrity and support for the deck assembly (nose, deck stabalizer, and riser). All three components of the deck assembly are through bolted for additional strength. Continuous Positive Interglide System: The MAXAM Continuous Positive Interglide System incorporates a rigid ONE PIECE design with a minimum interlock of 10 [254]. MAXAM s CPI also features a completely rigid connection and the largest and strongest wheel channel in the industry (thanks to a large compound shape with internal gussets).

9 Section IV: Telescopics provide the versatility needed to host any number of events within the same facility, by simply reconfiguring the seating to accommodate the particular needs of an event. Telescopic (retractable) seating can be moved in or out to create more space or seating, depending on the needs of the event. This section will help to illustrate the versatility of telescopic seating by showing a building configured for a number of different events.

10 Telescopic Seating in stored position The following layouts are based on using twenty (20) 20'-0"(6m) x 15 Rows x 26" (66cm) row spacing Portable Telescopic Gym Seat sections. This layout shows the units in the stored position, providing clear space for multiple activities. Each portable section when open can provide seating for 153 people. Basketball A single court set up for Basketball can provide seating for up to 3060 people.the lay out is divided into side banks and end banks using all 20 portable sections. The side bank layout consists of 6 sections with a seating capacity of 918 people per side. The end bank layout consist of 4 sections with a seating capacity of 612 people per end.

11 Tournament Volleyball Volleyball Seating Layout Consists of three playing courts; one center court and two additional end courts. The Center Court Seating is configured with 12-20' (6m) sections x 15 tier for a total seating capacity of 1836.The side bank layout consist of 4 sections with a seating capacity of 612 people per side.the end bank layout consist of 2 sections with a seating capacity of 306 people per side. The two end courts are designed for preliminary matches or practice during tournament play. The end court seating is configuration with 4 - sections with a seating capacity of 612 people per end court. Tournament Badminton Badminton Seating Layout Consists of three playing courts; one center court and two additional end courts. The Center Court Seating is configured with 12-20' (6m) sections x 15 tier for a total seating capacity of 1836.The side bank layout consist of 4 sections with a seating capacity of 612 people per side. The end bank layout consist of 2 sections with a seating capacity of 306 people per side. The two end courts are designed for preliminary matches or practice during tournament play. 13 Boxing The Boxing set up is for the main event and can provide seating for up to 3060 people. The lay out is divided into side banks and end banks using all 20 portable sections. The side bank layout consists of 6 sections with a seating capacity of 918 people per side. The end bank layout consist of 4 sections with a seating capacity of 612 people per end. Floor seating can also be used in this configuration providing additional ring side seating. Tournament Bowling The Bowling layout consist of three banks of seating which surround the 6 bowling lanes providing a capacity of 1224 The main bank of seating consists of 4 sections with a seating capacity of 612 people. Both side bank consist of 2 sections with a seating capacity of 306 people per bank or a total of 612.

14 Gymnastics The gymnastic configuration provides seating for up to 3060 people. The lay out is divided into side banks and end banks using all 20 portable sections providing excellent sightlines for all spectators and athletes. The side bank layout consists of 6 sections with a seating capacity of 918 people per side. The end bank layout consist of 4 sections with a seating capacity of 612 people per end. Tournament Wrestling Wrestling Seating Layout Consists of three wrestling areas; one center mat and additional end mats. The Center mat Seating is configured with 12-20' (6m) sections x 15 tier for a total seating capacity of The side bank layout consist of 4 sections with a seating capacity of 612 people per side. The end bank layout consist of 2 sections with a seating capacity of 306 people per side. The two mat areas are designed for preliminary matches or practice during tournament action. The end mat seating is configuration with 4 - sections with a seating capacity of 612 people per end area.

15 Indoor Track The Track seating layout is based on using 12 sections located on the infield of the track. This seating configuration will seat up to 1836 people. The placement of the sections allow excellent sightlines for all the infield events and the track events. Eight sections are required to be stored for this configuration. Concert (End Stage) The End Stage Concert seating layout is configured into three banks of seating. The two side banks are created by using 6 sections for a capacity of 918 people per bank. The end bank is created by using 4 sections for a seating capacity of 612 people. Four sections are required to be stored for this configuration. In addition to telescopic seating, portable floor seating may be used in combination with this layout providing extra seating capacity.

16 Concert (Center Stage) The Center Stage Concert set up can provide seating for up to 3060 people. The lay out is divided into side banks and end banks using all 20 portable sections. The side bank layout consists of 6 sections with a seating capacity of 918 people per side. The end bank layout consist of 4 sections with a seating capacity of 612 people per end. Floor seating can also be used in this configuration providing additional seating close to the stage. Fashion Show (Half House) The Fashion Show is configured with two side banks separated by a runway for a seating capacity of 1224 people. Each side bank is created with 4 sections providing seating for 612 people per side. Concert (Half House) The Concert (Half House) seating is configured with two side banks and one end bank for a seating capacity of 1863 people. Each bank is created with 4 sections providing seating for 612 people per bank. Additional floor seating may be used to increase the overall seating capacity.

17 Basketball and Convention The Basketball Seating is configured with 12-20' (6m) sections x 15 tier for a total seating capacity of This configuration allows for a small exhibition area in the opposite end of the basketball set up and truly creates a multi purpose facility. The side bank layout consist of 4 sections with a seating capacity of 612 people per side.to create this layout in a half house set up 8 sections are required to be stored.
