The lading and unlading f tank trucks with large quantities f chemicals and pwders generates static electricity which, if left t accumulate n a tank truck, culd discharge electrstatic sparks with energies far in excess f the minimum ignitin energies f a vast range f cmbustible gases, vapurs and dusts. The ignitin f such atmspheres by static electricity can be prevented by ensuring the tank truck is grunded. Grunding ensures there can be n build f static electricity n the tank and chassis f the tank truck and the mst reliable way f grunding yur tank trucks is t specify an Earth-Rite RTR. With ver 3,000 units in the field the 2nd generatin Earth-Rite RTR is the mst reliable and precise methd f grunding tank trucks tday. The Earth-Rite RTR utilises patented electrnics called Tri-Mde technlgy (next page) t establish three key inputs that must be in place befre the lading/unlading peratin can cmmence. When the three key inputs are met, nly then will the Earth-Rite RTR g permissive and energise its pair f dry changever cntacts t engage the pump, r whatever equipment is interlcked with the system, t cntrl the flw f prduct t r frm the tank truck. Any static generated by the lading peratin is transferred frm the tank truck via the Earth-Rite RTR t grund, eliminating static electricity as a ptential surce f ignitin. 2 Tri-Mde Technlgy GREEN LIGHT Tri-Mde checks cmplete RTR permits prduct transfer MODE 1 Tank Truck Recgnitin In accrdance with the recmmendatins f IEC *, the Earth-Rite RTR determines if the grunding clamp is cnnected t a tank truck. This ensures the clamp is cnnected t the main bdy f the tank truck and cannt be bypassed by cnnecting the clamp t the lading rack. MODE 2 Static Grund Verificatin The Earth-Rite RTR ensures that it has a cnnectin t the general mass f the earth. This is a critical input as a cnnectin t earth is the nly means by which the static electricity can be transferred frm the tank truck, preventing the accumulatin f static electricity. MODE 3 Cntinuus Grund Lp Mnitring In accrdance with the key recmmendatins f IEC * and NFPA 77*, the Earth-Rite RTR ensures the resistance between the tank truck and the verified grunding pint at the lading rack never exceeds 10 hms. Hazardus Area Strbe Light The strbe light is munted in an elevated psitin and when the equipment is crrectly grunded, flashes cntinuusly infrming persnnel that a transfer prcess is underway and is prtected frm the static hazard.
