1 ASSEMBLY MANUAL Keep With Operator s Manual ALAMO SMC & RHINO 65A, 75 & 85 BACKHOE MOUNTING KIT KUBOTA L4400DT TRACTORS TRACTOR AND SUBFRAME KIT GENERAL INFORMATION Subframe kit can be installed on tractor using tools ordinarily available, including standard and metric wrenches and a torque wrench. Complete backhoe mounting requires subframe channel kit Tractor must be equipped with 2409 Alamo SMC, Rhino loader, or Kubota LA703 front end loader. IMPORTANT: Remove linch pins and disconnect supports to disable 3-point hitch arms. NOTE: References to right, left, forward and rearward directions are determined from the backhoe operator seat position facing rearward. The backhoe is shipped partially assembled. Assembly will be easier if components are aligned and loosely assembled before tightening hardware. Keep all persons away from operator control area while performing adjustments, service, or maintenance. Keep hands and body away from pressurized lines. Use paper or cardboard, not hands or other body parts to check for leaks. Wear safety goggles. Hydraulic fluid under pressure can easily penetrate skin and will cause serious injury or death. Make sure that all operating and service personnel know that if hydraulic fluid penetrates skin, it must be surgically removed as soon as possible by a doctor familiar with this form of injury or gangrene, serious injury, or death will result. CONTACT A PHYSICIAN IMMEDIATELY IF FLUID ENTERS SKIN OR EYES. DO NOT DELAY. Always wear relatively tight and belted clothing to avoid getting caught in moving parts. Wear sturdy, rough-soled work shoes and protective equipment for eyes, hair, hands, hearing, and head and respirator or filter mask where appropriate. NOTE: Leave all attaching hardware loose until mounting kit is completely assembled to facilitate assembly and proper alignment. Tighten all hardware to torques specified in general torque specifications table. 2 TRACTOR PREPARATION 1. Remove drawbar from tractor hitch bracket. 2. Remove tractor hitch bracket from tractor. Retain nuts from studs. INSTALLING SUBFRAME MOUNTING BRACKETS TO TRACTOR (Figures 1,2, & 3) 1. If tractor is equipped with a loader, remove bottom 16 mm bolts from loader mid mounting brackets. Place backhoe front mounting bracket (1) over loader mid mounting brackets. Fasten using 16 rnm x 55 mm cap screws (8) and 5/8" lock washers (13) in top holes and 1/2 x 1-3/4" cap screws (10) and 1/2 locknuts (15) in bottom holes. 2. If tractor is not equipped with a loader (and front weights are being used as counterweight) place spacer plates (6 & 7) on each side between backhoe front mounting bracket (1) and tractor transmission housing. Fasten using 16 mm x 55 mm cap screws (8) and 5/8" lock washers (13) in top holes and 1/2 x 1-3/4" cap screws (10) and 1/2 lock nuts in bottom holes. 3. Remove and discard bolts which secure bottom of tractor hitch to rear of tractor. NOTE: Hitch will be held in place by two bolts at rear of tractor. 4. Install spacer (3) and rear mounting bracket (2) to rear of tractor using 14 mm x 45 mm cap screws (9) and 9/16" lock washers (14). 4 ASSEMBLING BACKHOE SUBFRAME (Figure 3) 1. Fasten front cross tube (4) and rear cross shaft (5) to subframe channels (22 & 23) using 1/2 x 1-1/4" cap screws (16) and 1/2 " lock nuts (15). NOTE: Install cross tube (4) and cross shaft (5) in forward most set of holes in subframe channels (22 & 23). INSTALLING SUBFRAME TO BACKHOE (Figure 3) 1. Install channel subframe assembly to backhoe main frame using7/8 x 3" cap screws (19), 7/8'' lock washers (21), and 7/8" hex nuts (20) in rear holes and 3/4 x 2 cap screws (17) and 3/4" lock nuts (18) in front holes. 2. Fasten support braces (24) to backhoe main frame and subframe channels (22 & 23) using 3/4 x 2-3/ 4" cap screws (26) and 3/4" lock nuts (25), with double nuts (25) on 3/4 x 2-3/4" cap screws (26) at both ends of each support brace (24). NOTE: For models 75 or 85 backhoe, use rearmost set of holes in subframe channels: for model 65A backhoe, use set of holes just ahead of rear set. NOTE: You will use the backhoe hydraulics to maneuver the backhoe into position. Use care in this procedure to avoid being trapped between tractor and backhoe or between backhoe parts. 4. Using backhoe hydraulic controls, extend stabilizer cylinders and boom cylinder until rear crosstube is level with rear mounting bracket receiver and the front of the subframe is on the ground. (Figure 1) 5. Slowly back tractor until rear crosstube is seated in rear mounting bracket receiver. 6. Retract boom cylinder and stabilizer cylinders so front of subframe is seated in front mounting braket. 7. Secure front crosstube in place using handle pins through front mounting bracket and lynch pins. 8. Start tractor and cycle backhoe cylinders to remove air. Put backhoe into transport position and engage the swing lock, boom lock, and stabilizer lock (if equipped). Shut off tractor, remove key. Check tractor or auxiliary reservoir level. Replenish according to hydraulic fluid specified in tractor operator's manual. IMPORTANT: Double nut 3/4 x 2-3/4" cap screws (26) with 3/4 lock nuts (25) after torqueing first nut to 350 ft lbs (475 N M). Torque all hardware. MOUNTING BACKHOE TO TRACTOR 1. Back tractor up to backhoe and center mount between the tractor rear tires. Position tractor so that the hydraulic system can be connected. Shut off tractor, set brake, and remove key. 2. If tractor hydraulic system is being used, connect backhoe tank hose (1/2" female quick coupler) to 3/4 male quick coupler on tractor. Connect backhoe pressure hose (3/8" female quick coupler) to power beyond 3/8" male quick coupler on tractor If auxiliary PTO pump kit is installed onto backhoe, connect pump to PTO. Restrain pump housing from rotating by securing torque arm. 3. With the tractor PTO and transmission in neutral, start the engine and run at low idle. Hydraulic power is provided when the engine is started. NOTE: Very little engine power is required to operate the hydraulic system in this mode. Should the engine pull down excessively, check the plumbing hookup for reversed lines or a control lever stuck F-4088 in an operating position. Page 4 of 6
