2 Accepts challenges without creating any. The Mercedes-Benz Econic. When the fire alarm sounds, every second is vital. The crew need to get to the incident as fast as possible with all the necessary equipment, whatever the nature of the call-out be it a domestic or industrial fire, a major blaze, or a recovery or rescue operation. And this is where the fire appliance is of huge importance, because it is essential that operations are not hampered by the equipment used. Thatʼs why fire brigades all over the world put their trust in the Econic. The main reasons for this are the Econicʼs low-entry cab and its attachment-friendly low frame concept which offers plenty of room for a large body to be mounted despite the very low overall vehicle height. In addition, the Econic demonstrates impressive standards of reliability and quality, thanks to many of the Mercedes-Benz technologies having been tested in large-scale production, which thus enables a wide range of demands to be implemented in the form of practical vehicle features. 3

The Econic is no run-of-the-mill commercial vehicle. It excels in service as a fire appliance thanks to its low overall vehicle height, safe low-entry cab and modern BlueTec 6 drive technology with Allison automatic transmission. The innovative low-entry concept. In the Econic there are two steps to progress: the low-entry cab makes it easy for crew members to enter and exit the vehicle quickly and safely. And there are advantages to the low-entry concept during the drive as well. Due to the driverʼs low seat position and the cabʼs generously proportioned windscreen and side windows, the Econic offers the driver excellent all-round visibility and makes it possible to encounter other road-users such as pedestrians and cyclists at eye level, so to speak. Factory-fitted cab variants to suit the job. There are two cab variants available from the factory. The interior of the low roof cab means there is plenty of room for the driver and co-driver, while the mounting area above the cab is suitable for a turntable ladder or hydraulic rescue platform without exceeding the 3.3 m standard. In conjunction with the pneumatic folding door, the high roof cab has a spacious interior and allows crew members to enter and exit the vehicle at full standing height. Powerful modern engines and automatic transmission as standard. The BlueTec 6 engines of the Econic play a major role in getting the Econic to the scene of the incident without wasting a second. The 6-cylinder diesel engines are available for the Econic with a base output of 220 kw (299 hp) and there is also a high-performance version with 260 kw (354 hp), delivering an impressive 1200 Nm and 1400 Nm of torque respectively. The Allison 6-speed automatic gearbox with FuelSense technology is easy to operate, ensures stress-free driving and also provides appropriate transmission of power. This makes shifting gears more comfortable and helps the engine deliver high performance even at low engine speeds. 5

The Mercedes-Benz Econic is designed to meet the demands of a variety of tasks and industry standards, from fire engine to turntable ladder, hydraulic rescue platform, imple ment truck or gear and tool carrier. The basis for this is the Econicʼs wide range of variants and its low-frame concept. Chassis with wheelbases of 3450 mm 5700 mm plus four different axle variants with a permitted gross vehicle weight of 18 t or 26 t make it possible to realise a wide range of customer requirements in the form of practical vehicle features. In addition, Mercedes-Benz works in close collaboration with major specialist bodybuilders. This means that we and our partners can ensure lasting high quality for the entire vehicle.
