1 SERVICE INFORMATION Brake S-Camshafts New Style Cam (1½ Roller) Old Style Cam (1¼ Roller) Head Marking: 0794L & 0794R (as of July 1994) Head Marking: M12L & M12R The old style cam has been discontinued for all new production 12¼ brake assemblies. Effective August 1994, only new style cams are available for service. IMPORTANT SERVICE GUIDELINES Please note the following guidelines when using the new style S-cam in service: This design change affects only the S-cam and rollers. The use of the new style S-cam requires the use of a 1.50 diameter roller. Check to be sure the roller being used is the proper diameter. NOTICE: The new S-cam should NOT be used in conjunction with an old style S-cam on the same trailer axle. New style S-cams MUST be used in both sets of brake assemblies on the trailer axle. The rate of brake application is different for the old style and new style S-cams. If the two styles of S-cams are mixed on one trailer axle, one brake may apply sooner than the other, which could result in premature wear and uneven application of brakes therefore requiring prompt service. NOTICE: The new style S-cam should NOT be used with cast 12¼ brake shoes. The cast brake shoes require the use of the old style S-cam. S-cam service on cast brake shoes requires changing the brake shoes to fabricated tapered lining brake shoes using the new style S-cam. Failure to change the brake shoes when using the new style S-cam will result in a failure of the S-cam to function properly and could also cause uneven application of brakes that will require prompt service. If a stretched shoe is simply relined, only a small portion of the new friction material will come into contact with the drum (typically at the S-cam end of the shoe). This causes excessive heat build up, premature wear and erratic brake performance. Average relined brake with partial lining-to-drum contact. Before any new lining is attached to a brake shoe, our exclusive Shoe Reforming System determines its dimensions and reforms the shoe back to its original OEM specifications. SUPER STOP is committed to quality at every step of the operation. WASHING Before any shoe is handled, it undergoes a complete washing process to remove the oil, grease and residue from previous use. The pull-through cleaning system uses three hundred (300) jet nozzles spraying water at 185 degrees Fahrenheit, without the addition of any chemicals, to remove the debris. DELINING SUPER STOP utilizes an automated and semi-automated operation to remove the old lining from the shoe and prepare it for the next step in the process. SHOT BLASTING Following removal of the lining each shoe receives extensive shot blasting to completely clean and prepare it for remanufacturing. The Wheelabrator Blaster was purchased in 2003 to increase the blasting process. Total blasting time: eight (8) minutes for one hundred and thirty (130) shoes. 34 July 2009

Coining leaves lines that run from the cam to the anchor end. These lines install new memory to the table of the shoe ensuring that it will not convert back to its former shape. PROTECTIVE COATING Our semi-gloss, black paint has been specially formulated with Tectyl to withstand hours of salt spray, protecting your shoe from any re-emergence of rust, commonly referred to as rust-jacking. Each shoe is manually dipped into this rust-inhibiting paint and is allowed to dry for one rotation on the paint line. QUALITY CONTROL Each shoe is inspected for rust, elongated rivet holes, and roller and anchor wear. Our Quality Control inspections, which are done throughout the remanufacturing process, are documented and kept on file. RELINING The SUPER STOP remanufacturing process is about providing a solid brake foundation, the brake shoe. We take relining shoes to the next level for our customers by attaching the brake lining of choice to their shoe. The result is an OE quality relined brake shoe ready for installation. RIVETING Our riveting machines are capable of doing 8 mm, 10 mm, 3/8 and 1/4 rivets. These machines are able to accomodate for differences in table thickness. Each machine has an automatic rivet feed to ensure that rivets are properly fed into the shoe. Our semi-automated riveting operation produces over one thousand (1000) shoes a day. This highly efficient process provides excellent quality control and ensures tight, secure attachment of lining to shoe. There is a difference among brake reliners... Only SUPER STOP provides a complete remanufacturing process. 12 SUPER STOP PRODUCTS WARRANTY HIGHWAY EXCHANGE BRAKE SHOES Brake Shoe Assemblies Fort Garry Industries Ltd. warrants all remanufactured Super Stop brake shoe assemblies against defective workmanship for the useful life of the friction material. This warranty is additionally supported by the warranties provided by the original component manufacturers. The Super Stop warranty liability is limited to the brake shoe assembly components and specifically does not extend to special, incidental, or consequential damages. Warranty Policy Terms & Conditions The Super Stop warranty will not apply if failure is due to lack of required maintenance, misuse, abuse, damage by accident, improper application, improper installation or serial numbers removed or defaced. The obligation of Fort Garry Industries Ltd. under this warranty is limited, upon inspection of failed parts, vehicles, and maintenance records, to repair or replace any Super Stop products.
