Wash facility has a training manual or written SOP for the wash facility procedures that is readily available. (I 10 pts) Q02. All wash personnel receive hands on wash procedure training prior to working without trained supervision (P 20 pts) Q03. All wash personnel are given training on the importance of wash facility biosecurity at least once a year and whenever there is a change to the biosecurity protocol (P 10 pts) Q04. Wash facility has a written SOP that restricts the movement of personnel and wash equipment from pre wash or wash areas to postwash areas without the appropriate decontamination procedures in between. (I 10 pts) Q05. Transporters are informed not to bring trailers loaded with pigs or deadstock in or around the wash facility. (P 50 pts) Site and buildings Q06. The facility has an effective rodent control program. (P 2 pts) Q07. The closest pig farm is more than 1 km away from the site activities, unless it is a dedicated wash facility for that swine system. (I 5 pts) Q08. The road surface material of both entry and exit routes for trailers provides good year round drainage. (I 10 pts) 1/8

Staff and Training Q01. Facilities should make a plan, document that plan and implement the plan with intentional training. The manual or SOP should provide enough information to allow someone unfamiliar with the job to competently complete the job. The manager should be able to provide the validator with the manual/sop during the validator's visit. The manual or SOP at minimum should include sections on: (1) Traffic & people flow, (2) CWDD procedures, (3) QA procedures (e.g. inspection) Q02. All personnel should work with an experienced employee until they can complete all aspects of the various tasks on their own. Focus should be given to sanitation as it relates to preventing the spread of livestock diseases via transport. The time needed will vary with each individual. A signed paper trail indicating their participation in the training shall be maintained on file and can be provided to the validator during the visit. Q03. Refresher training on the importance of biosecurity within the wash facility shall be provided when needed, with a minimum of at least once per year. Q04. The written SOP shall clearly detail the decontamination procedure to be followed by employees moving from the pre wash and wash areas (dirty areas) to the post wash area (clean area). Q05. Live or dead pigs are not allowed on the wash facility. Validator assessing awareness of wash facility manager. Site and buildings Q06. Rodents can transmit disease agents between dirty and clean areas of the facility. There should be an effective rodent control program in place to reduce spread of disease by them. Validators should observe no signs of infestation, or there are bait stations/traps to deal with infestation. Q07. The wash facility should be located so that live pigs are a reasonable distance away. Q08. The roadways into and away from the wash facility must provide good year round drainage to prevent vehicle driving through pools or puddles of standing water. It should be obvious that road surface would allow for drainage. 2/8

Q09. Notices are posted on the entrances to the washbay(s) giving guidance to the movement of vehicles and people on the site. (I 10 pts) Q10. Washbays are drive through so that clean trailers do not have to take the same route as dirty trailers entering the bays. (I 50 pts) Q11. The truck wash building can be maintained at a temperature above freezing all year round. (I 100 pts) Q12. Washbays are not used for storage purposes, i.e., only products and equipment that are used during the wash are present in the wash area. (I 50 pts) Q13. The washbays have sufficient space for the wash team to access all sides of the trailer. (I 50 pts) Q14. The washbay walls and floor are fully washable. (I 50 pts) Q15. The washbay floor can be fully drained between washes. (I 100 pts) Q16. The wash facility is designed or equipped to provide adequate slope to facilitate dripping/draining from the trailer. (I 10 pts) Q17. The wash facility has a ventilation system in place that can prevent the build up of fog all year round. (I 10 pts) Q18. There are physical, permanent or removable divisions inside the wash station to separate different trailers from each other and prevent wash water from running between bays. (I 100 pts) Q19. The site has an area that is separated from the wash bay(s) that allows wash personnel to wash their hands prior to all washing, disinfection and drying activities. (I 2 pts) Q20. The site has an area that is separated from the wash bay(s) that allows wash personnel to change their clothes in a way that prevents their clean clothing from becoming contaminated. (I 5 pts) Q21. The wash facility is equipped with a washer and dryer on site which is dedicated to cleaning and drying wash attire. (I 5 pts) 3/8

Q09. Notices are posted at entranceways to allow only authorized personnel as a reminder that visitors may inadvertently carry in disease agents that could contaminate facilities and trailers. Every entrance way restricted to facility personnel should have a sign posted. Q10. Drive through washbays eliminate the need for clean trailers to drive over dirty areas of the wash facility yard. This reduces the chance of recontamination. Q11. The building must be heated in freezing temperatures to keep water lines and moisture on the floor and walls from freezing. Many bacteria and viruses can be maintained in a viable state for an extended time period when frozen. Validator should make note of the various sources of heating in facility. Q12. Storage of materials not used in the cleaning/disinfection process provides an extra place for disease agents to become trapped in the washbay and not removed from the area. Q13. The wash bay must be large enough to provide sufficicent space for movement around both sides and front and back of trailers and enough space for trailer equipment not attached to the trailer to be removed or disassembled for cleaning. A minimum of 5 feet (1.5 m) is required on all sides of the trailer to achieve this. Q14. The washbay floor, walls, and ceiling may become contaminated by splash or spray by the various taks involved in cleaning the trailers. The ability to wash and disinfect them between trailers reduces the possibility of transfer between trailers. Q15. Removal of standing water on the floor between trailers reduces the chance of transfer to the next trailer. Validator must observe a wash bay after a wash has occurred to validate proper drainage. Q16. Provision of a slope in the floor (higher in front) assists in draining pools of water from the trailer floor. Pooling of water prevents effective disinfecting procedures. Wash bay should have an obvious slope or a means to provide an obvious slope for the trailer. Q17. Build up of fog in cold winter temperatures can make it very difficult to see where the trailer has been cleaned and where organic matter is still present. Adequate ventilation will remove this excess moisture from the bay allowing better visualization of the trailer. Validator must observe a wash to validate that fog does not build up to the point of no visibility. Q18. Dividers between units prevents the transfer of wash water from one trailer to the one beside it by splash or spray. Any physical barrier between bays that reaches from the floor to above the trailer and runs at least the length of the trailer will suffice. Q19. Personal hygiene is important to prevent transfer of disease agents from one trailer to the next one and to prevent recontamination of a trailer betweeen tasks. Q20. Facilities must be provided which facilitates employees keeping clean clothing from being contaminated by 'dirty' clothing. Bathrooms alone often do not provide enough space for changing clothes without a significant risk of contaminating the clean clothes. Q21. The provision of a clothes washer and dryer facilitates keeping 'clean' clothes clean. The chance of contamination is reduced if clothing is not removed from the site and then returned. 4/8

Q22. Management of vehicles (flow and parking) is organized to prevent cross contamination between dirty and clean trailers. (P 20 pts) Q23. The wash operation provides appropriate facilities, equipment and/or sufficient space to allow trailers to dry completely at all times of year. (I 100 pts) Q24. The truck wash facility can heat the wash water all year round. (I 20 pts) Q25. The truck wash facility has a high pressure wash system. (I 100 pts) Q26. The truck wash facility has the equipment to provide a highvolume, low pressure water wash, e.g., firehose wash. (I 10 pts) Q27. The wash operation has the ability to "bake" trailers at 60 C or higher for at least 20 minutes or 70 C or higher for at least 10 minutes all year round. (I 5 pts) Washing, Disinfection and Drying Q28. The wash facility applies a SOP to fully flush, drain and disinfect the wash bay(s) between trailer washes. (P 100 pts) Bedding Q29. There is no scrape out area on site or, if there is, it is in an area and accessible by a driveway that cleaned trailers do not have to travel over while exiting the site. (I 50 pts) Q30. The facility informs transporters that trailers which contain more bedding than can be scraped out with a shovel should not be brought into the washbay(s). (P 10 pts) Q31. The facility applies a SOP for handling and disposing of residual organic material from the wash bays in a biosecure manner. (P 20 pts) Q32. The facility uses a biosecure method for handling and discharging of waste water. (P 10 pts) Cleaning, Washing and Disinfection Products Q33. All stored products are clearly identified. (P 10 pts) 5/8

Q22. Dirty and clean trailers should not cross paths on the facility yard; this includes when entering/exiting wash bay or anywhere else on the site. Best practice is to have one driveway for dirty vehicles entering the site and one for clean vehicles exiting it. Q23. It is preferrable for trailers to be dried after disinfection and before proceeding to another livestock operation. In freezing or rainy weather, this may require extra facilities. Drying is an extremely important part of successful sanitation program. Absence of moisture stops the growth and viability of many bacteria and viruses. Q24. Hot water assists in the removal of organic matter, encouraging effective and efficient sanitation. Validator can either assess by water temperature out of wands or by presence of boilers connected to wash system. Q25. High pressure wash water increases the removal capability of the wash procedure. Q26. High volume, low pressure rinse increases the efficiency of removal of loose organic matter. Q27. Application of 'dry' heat for an extended time period can kill many viruses. Cumulative damage to the trailer is unknown at this time. Temperatures and times must be observed by validator. Washing, Disinfection and Drying Q28. A section within facility SOP requires the washbay itself to be flushed and disinfected between trailers. This procedure is most important so truck wash does not become a spreader of viruses to farms that are virus free. The SOP must be made available and all three conditions must be met to be marked "Yes"; otherwise "No". Bedding Q29. Scrape out of dirty trailers should occur prior to arrival at the wash facility. If a scrape out area is provided, it should be located in a site isolated from the yard and have its own separate driveway so that clean trailers do not have to cross paths with dirty trailers. Q30. It is preferable to minimize the amount of bedding material brought into the wash facility. Q31. Organic material leftover in the wash bays has the potential to harbour viruses and disease can could potentially recontaminate cleaned trailers. It needs to be removed from the wash bays and disposed in a manner that minimizes this potential of recontamination. Q32. If handled or discharged inappropriately, waste water poses a risk of recontaminating the wash facility site and subsequently contaminating clean trailers and/or downstream livestock operations. Cleaning, Washing and Disinfection Products Q33. All chemicals (specifically the detergent and/or disinfectant used for trailer washing) should be stored in containers which clearly identify the products contained within. 6/8

Q34. Disinfectants, which are proven effective against the porcine epidemic diarrhea (PED) virus and the PRRS virus, are available. (P 100 pts) Q35. Soap, degreaser or detergent is available for washing. (P 100 pts) Control points Q36. Calibration of equipment is carried out at least quarterly and recorded. (P 100 pts) Water source Q37. Fresh, non recycled water is used at this facility. (P 100 pts) Q38. Water is analyzed for ph and mineral content at least annually, and the quality of the water is compatible with the cleaning products being used. (P 5 pts) 7/8

Q34. Disinfectant used is effective against the Porcince Epidemic Diarrhea (PED) virus and the PRRS virus at the manufacturer's recommended concentration and contact time. A review of disinfectants can be found at the following link Validator should either know or verify that the disinfectant is efffective against PED and PRRS, supported by research. The validator should always document the product, the planned concentration level being used and the expiry date on the product present in the truck wash. Q35. Detergents assist in the removal of organic matter by reducing surface tension allowing water to penetrate organic matter resulting in greater removal. Control points Q36. "Calibration" of equipment is actually verification that the equipment is delivering disinfectant at the required concentration at the nozzle end of the line. It can be measured by many different means (e.g., indicator chemical, colour test strips, lab analysis). Facility must be able to produce an SOP and records of calibration to the validator. Water source Q37. Recycled water may contain various viruses and bacteria from a previous washing event that could potentially contaminate the next trailer being washed. Q38. Mineral content (hardness) and ph can affect the effectiveness of various disinfectants and detergents. It should be checked at least once per year to ensure it remains compatible with the chosen products. 8/8
