1 TPMS Relearn Procedure - Chysler/Dodge/Jeep/RAM Applications Required Tools NONE Preparation Review all data in your owner's manual pertaining to the TPMS System Installation NOTE: This Step should be performed only by a technician who has been properly trained in the operation and installation of TPMS Systems. Install Sensors - Properly Install tire pressure sensors. Tire Pressure - Confirm all tires are inflated to the pressure indicated on the tire pressure placard.(placard is located on the driver's side door jamb of vehicle) Relearn This is a sample Tire Pressure Placard. Not for this specific vehicle. Eliminate Interference - To ensure the control unit memorizes the correct sensor ID's, the vehicle with a new sensor must be at least 3m (10 ft.) from any other TPMS pressure sensor not installed on that vehicle. Vehicles TPMS System will Re-Learn the Sensor ID s when the vehicle is driven above 30 mph for approximately 15 minutes. 2 TPMS Relearn Procedure - Ford/Lincoln/ Mercury Applications Required Tools OEM Trigger Tool - A Special TPMS reset tool to reset Ford TPMS is provided with vehicles that have different front and rear tire pressures. The tool is provided by the manufacturer and may be located inside the Owner's Guide Jacket or Properly formatted scan tool can be used. Preparation 1. Review all data in your owner's manual pertaining to the TPMS System 2. Verify vehicle application is covered by Trigger Tool 3. Update Trigger Tool Software 4. Verify that the Trigger Tool is working properly (replace battery if necessary) Installation NOTE: This Step should be performed only by a technician who has been properly trained in the operation and installation of TPMS Systems. Install Sensors - Properly Install tire pressure sensors. Tire Pressure - Confirm all tires are inflated to the pressure indicated on the tire pressure placard.(placard is located on the driver's side door jamb of vehicle) This is a sample Tire Pressure Placard. Not for this specific vehicle. Eliminate Interference - To ensure the control unit memorizes the correct sensor ID's, the vehicle with a new sensor must be at least 3m (10 ft.) from any other TPMS pressure sensor not installed on that vehicle. Relearn - NOTE: Steps 1-6 must be completed within 60 seconds. 1. Place the ignition in the OFF position and keep the key in the ignition. 2. Press an release brake pedal 3. Cycle the ignition from OFF to RUN three (3) times ending in the RUN position DO NOT start the engine. 4. Press and hold the brake pedal for two (2) seconds, then release. 5. Turn ignition OFF-DO NOT remove key. 6. Cycle the ignition from OFF to RUN three (3) times ending in RUN-DO NOT start the engine. NOTE: If the reset mode has been entered successfully, the horn will sound once. The TPMS indicator will flash and, (if equipped), the message center will display [TRAIN LEFT FRONT TIRE]. A double horn chirp will indicate you need to repeat the process
3 TPMS Relearn Procedure - Ford/Lincoln/ Mercury Applications 7. Place the Activation Tool on the sidewall of the Left Front Tire at the Valve Stem and press the button on the Activation Tool. The horn will sound to indicate that the tire pressure sensor has been recognized by the Engine Control Unit (ECU). NOTE: Do not wait more than two (2) minutes between resetting each tire sensor or the system will timeout and the entire procedure will have to be repeated on all four wheels. 8. Repeat the process outlined in step 7 on Right Front, Right Rear, and Left Rear Tires. 9. When the Reset Procedure is complete, the horn will sound indicating the process is complete and the message center, (if equipped) will display TIRE TRAINING COMPLETE. NOTE: If the ECU does not recognize any of the 4 tire pressure sensors during the reset procedure, the horn will sound twice and the message center, (if equipped) will display "TIRE NOT TRAINED REPEAT". If this occurs, reset procedure must be repeated from the beginning Reset Procedure with Push Button 1. Turn ignition to OFF position. 2. Push and release brake pedal. 3. Using the Push-Button, press once to turn ON, the press again to put vehicle into ACC mode, then push again to turn OFF. Repeat this process 2 more times ending on ACC. 4. Press and release brake pedal, then press Push-Button once to turn OFF. 5. Using the Push-Button, press once to turn ON, the press again to put vehicle into ACC mode, then push again to turn OFF. Repeat this process 2 more times ending on ACC. 6. Place the Activation Tool on the sidewall of the Left Front Tire at the Valve Stem and press the button on the Activation Tool. The horn will sound to indicate that the tire pressure sensor has been recognized by the Engine Control Unit (ECU).
4 TPMS Relearn Procedure - Ford/Lincoln/ Mercury Applications NOTE: Do not wait more than two (2) minutes between resetting each tire sensor or the system will timeout and the entire procedure will have to be repeated on all four wheels. 7. Within 2 minutes after the horn sounds, place the activation tool on the right front tire sidewall at the valve stem. Press the button on the Activation Tool. The horn will sound to indicate that the tire pressure sensor is recognized by the SJB. Repeat the procedure for right rear and left rear tires. 9. When the Reset Procedure is complete, the message center, (if equipped), will display, TIRE TRAINING COMPLETE. For vehicles not equipped with a message center, successful completion of the Reset Procedure will be verified by returning the ignition to the OFF position without the horn sounding. If the horn sounds twice when ignition is returned to OFF position, this indicate that the Reset Procedure was not successful. You will be required to repeat step 1-8. NOTE: If the SJB does not recognize any of the 4 tire pressure sensors during the reset procedure, the horn will sound twice and the message center, (if equipped) will display "TIRE NOT TRAINED REPEAT". 5 TPMS Relearn Procedure - GM Applications Required Tools Properly formatted scan tool or trigger tool. Preparation 1. Review all data in your owner's manual pertaining to the TPMS System 2. Verify vehicle application is covered by Trigger Tool 3. Update Trigger Tool Software 4. Verify that the Trigger Tool is working properly (replace battery if necessary) Installation NOTE: This Step should be performed only by a technician who has been properly trained in the operation and installation of TPMS Systems. Relearn STANDARD IGNITION 1. Engage parking brake. 2. Turn ignition switch to ON position (engine off). 3. Enter Re-Learn Mode Remote Keyless Entry (RKE) Method Press and hold the transmitter s LOCK and UNLOCK buttons at the same time for approximately 5 seconds. The horn will sound twice and the Left Front Turn Signal will illuminate to indicate that the receiver is in the learning mode. TIRE LEARN- ING ACTIVE will be displayed on the DIC, Driver s Information Screen. Proceed to step 4. Driver Information Center (DIC) Method Press the Driver Information Center (DIC) vehicle information button until the PRESS? TO RELEARN TIRE POSITIONS message displays. The horn will sound twice and the Left Front Turn Signal will illuminate to indicate that the receiver is in the learning mode. TIRE LEARNING ACTIVE will be displayed on the DIC, Driver s Information Screen. Proceed to step 4 Trip Odometer Method Press the trip odometer reset stem located on the instrument panel cluster until the PRESS? TO RELEARN TIRE POSI- TIONS message displays. The horn sounds twice to signal the receiver is in relearn mode and TIRE LEARNING ACTIVE message displays on the DIC screen. Proceed to step 4.
6 TPMS Relearn Procedure - GM Applications WITH PUSH BUTTON IGNITION Press and hold the push button start until the vehicle is in accessory mode. NOTE: On Cadillac models you will know when you are in accessory mode when the Cadillac emblem appears on the DIC. Press the MENU button located on the turn signal lever until "VEHICLE INFORMATION MENU" is displayed. Once you are in the VEHICLE INFORMATION MENU, use the arrow buttons on the turn signal lever until the DIC displays the vehicle's tire inflation pressures and positions. Press and hold the button located on the end of the turn signal lever until "Are you sure that you want to relearn? YES or NO" is displayed. Use the arrow buttons on the turn signal lever to highlight YES. Once YES is highlighted, press the button located on the end of the turn signal lever. The horn will sound twice anf the left front turn signal will illuminate to indicate that the receiver is in learning mode. "TIRE LEARNING ACTIVE" will be displayed on the DIC, driver's Information Screen. Proceed to Step Starting with LF tire, increase/decrease tire pressure until horn sounds or place scan tool near the sensor and press the activate/trigger button. NOTE: You must use a scan tool to trigger/activate the TPMS sensors on all 2012 and newer model year GM vehicles. Increasing/Decreasing the air pressure will not trigger/activate the sensors. 5. After horn sounds, repeat the previous step for the next 3 sensors in the following order: Right Front, Right Rear, and Left Rear. After Left Rear tire has been learned, the horn will sound twice indicating that all 4 sensor ID s have been learned. The learn mode is no longer active and the TIRE LEARNING ACTIVE message on the DIC will go off. 6. Turn ignition to OFF position. Adjust all tires to pressure listed on tire pressure placard. NOTE: If no tires learned are learned after entering the TPMS into Learn Mode, or if communication with the receiver stops, or if the time limit has expired, turn the Ignition Switch to LOCK/OFF and start over at step 2. Relearn 1. Following the instructions supplied by the manufacturer of your properly formatted scan tool. Read the sensor ID's into your scan tool starting with the left front tire, contact tire sidewall near air valve and press the switch to learn the sensor id. 2. Place the activation tool on the wall of the LEFT FRONT tire at the valve stem and press the test button on the acti vation tool. 3. Place the activation tool on the wall of the RIGHT FRONT tire at the valve stem and press the test button on the activation tool. 4. Place the activation tool on the wall of the RIGHT REAR tire at the valve stem and press the test button on the acti vation tool. 5. Place the activation tool on the wall of the LEFT REAR tire at the valve stem and press the test button on the acti vation tool.
8 TPMS Relearn Procedure - Import Applications NOTE: If there the spare tire has a TPMS sensor installed then place the activation tool on the wall of the SPARE tire at the valve stem and press the test button on the activation tool. 6. Plug the OBD adapter into the OBD plug under your dash. Turn ignition to ON position (engine off). Following the instruc tions supplied by the manufacturer of your properly formatted scan tool. Read the sensor ID s into the electronic control unit (ECU) of your vehicle. For Technical Assistance call option 4 DISCLAIMER: All information is to be used as a reference only.
