5 Foreword 1 Foreword This operator's manual contains information and procedures for the safe operation and maintenance of your Wacker unit. For your own safety and for protection against injury, you should read the safety instructions thoroughly, make yourself familiar with them and observe them at all times. This operator's manual is not a manual for extensive maintenance and repair work. Such work should be carried out by Wacker Service or authorised specialists. The safety of the operator was one of the most important aspects when this unit was designed. However, improper use or incorrect maintenance can pose a risk. Please operate and service your Wacker unit in accordance with the specifications in this operator's manual. Your reward will be operation without any trouble and a high degree of availability. Defective components should be replaced immediately! Please contact your Wacker representative if you have any questions concerning operation or maintenance. 6 Symbols used 2 Symbols used Warning symbols This operator's manual contains safety regulations of the categories: DANGER, WARNING, CAUTION. They should be followed to prevent danger to life and limb or damage to equipment or improper service. DANGER This symbol indicates hazards that can result in serious injury or even death. WARNING This symbol indicates hazards that can result in injury or severe material damage. CAUTION This symbol indicates hazards that can result in material damage. Instructions This symbol indicates there is something for you to do. 6

7 PF 3 Regulations for safety instructions 3 Regulations for safety instructions 3.1 Principle State of the art This unit has been constructed with state-of-the-art technology according to the recognized rules of safety. Nevertheless, when used improperly, dangers to the life and limb of the operator or to third persons or damage to the unit or other materials cannot be excluded. Proper use The unit may only be used to pump clear water or water with scattered solid particles (up to 13 mm in diameter). see Chapter Technical data for maximum diameter of solid particles. Its proper use also includes the observance of all instructions contained in this operator's manual as well as complying with the required maintenance and service instructions. Any other use of the unit is regarded as improper. Any damage resulting from improper use will void the warranty and the liability on behalf of the manufacturer. The operator assumes full responsibility. Structural modifications Never attempt to modify the unit without the written permission of the manufacturer. Failure to do so will endanger your safety! In addition, this will void the warranty and the liability on behalf of the manufacturer. Requirements for operation The ability to operate the unit safely requires: Proper transport, storage, set-up and assembly. Careful operation. Careful repair work. Operation Operate the unit only as intended and only when in proper working condition. Operate the unit in a safety-conscious manner with all safety devices attached and enabled. Never operate the unit in a potentially explosive environment. Operator s Manual 7

8 Regulations for safety instructions PF 3 Maintenance Regular maintenance is required in order for the unit to operate properly and reliably over time. Neglected maintenance work can make the unit dangerous to use. Strictly observe the prescribed maintenance intervals. Do not use the unit if it requires maintenance or repairs. Malfunctions If you detect a malfunction, you must shut down and secure the unit immediately. Eliminate the malfunctions that impair safety immediately! Replace damaged or defective components immediately! For further information, please see the chapter Troubleshooting. Spare parts, accessories Use only genuine Wacker spare parts and accessories. Non-compliance will exempt the manufacturer from all liability. Exclusion of liability Wacker will refuse to accept liability for injuries to persons or for damage to materials in the following cases: Modifications made on the unit. Improper use. Improper handling. Use of third-party spare parts and accessories. 3.2 Organizational measures Operator's manual Always keep the operator's manual near the unit or near the work site for quick reference. If you have misplaced the operator's manual or require an additional copy, please contact your Wacker representative. Always hand over this operator's manual to other operators or to the subsequent owner of the unit. General regulations Observe the country-specific regulations, standards and guidelines in reference to accident prevention and environmental safety, for example those pertaining to hazardous materials and wearing protective gear. Supplement the operator's manual with additional company, official or other general regulations that may be in effect. 8

9 PF 3 Regulations for safety instructions Operating controls Always keep the operating controls dry, clean and free of oil or grease. The function of operating levers or controls must not to be manipulated or rendered ineffective. Cleaning Always keep the unit clean and be sure to clean it each time you have finished using it. Do not use gasoline or solvents. Danger of explosion! Checking for signs of damage Inspect the unit when it is switched off for any signs of damage at least once per work shift. Have any damage or defects eliminated immediately. 3.3 Operator qualifications Requirements Only trained personnel are permitted to start and operate the unit. The following rules also apply: You are at least 18 years of age. You are physically and mentally fit. You have received instruction on how to properly use the unit. You are familiar with required safety devices. You are authorized to start units and systems in accordance with the standards governing safety. You have been assigned to work on the unit by your company. Incorrect operation Incorrect operation or misuse by untrained personnel can endanger the health and safety of the operator and/or cause unit and material damage. 3.4 Protective gear Work clothing Clothing should be appropriate, i.e. should be close-fitting but not restrict your movement. Do not wear long hair loosely, loose clothing or jewellery including rings. These objects can easily get caught or be drawn in by moving parts. Operator s Manual 9

10 Regulations for safety instructions PF 3 Personal protective gear Wear personal protective gear to avoid injuries or health hazards: Non-skid, hard-toed shoes. Work gloves made of durable material. Overalls made of durable material. Hardhat. Ear muffs. Ear muffs This unit generates noise that exceeds the country-specific permissible noise levels (individual rating level). This is why ear muffs are required in Germany starting at 89 db(a) in accordance with BGV B Transport Switching off the unit Before you transport the unit, it must be switched off, and the engine must be given sufficient time to cool down. Lifting When lifting the unit, observe the following instructions: Designate a skilled person to guide you for the lifting procedure. You must be able to see or hear this person. Use only suitable and certified hoisting gear, lifting tackle and load-bearing equipment with sufficient lifting capacities. Only use the attachment points described in the operator's manual. Attach the unit securely to the hoisting gear. Ensure that no one is nearby prior to lifting the unit. Do not climb onto the unit. Make sure that no one walks under or stands beneath the suspended unit. Remove (loose) components before lifting. Loading Loading ramps must be able to bear the load and be in a stable position. Make sure that no one can be endangered if the unit slips away or tips over or if parts suddenly move upward or downward. Put the operating controls and moving parts in their transport position. Secure the unit with load-securing straps so that it cannot roll or slide away or tip over. Only use the attachment points described in the operator's manual. 10

11 PF 3 Regulations for safety instructions Transport vehicle Use only suitable transport vehicles with sufficient load-carrying capacities. Restarting Parts, accessories or tools that have been detached for transport purposes must be carefully re-mounted and fastened before you restart the unit. When you restart the unit, only proceed as described in the operator's manual. 3.6 Operating safety Minimum distance Stationary power units and drives must have a distance of at least one metre from equipment, buildings or other units. Do not use in the rain Protect the unit against rain, snow or any other forms of moisture. This could cause damage or malfunctions. Protection against water Only operate the unit on a dry surface. If water accumulates under the unit, you must switch off the unit and let it dry properly. 3.7 Operating safety of pumps Submersible pump connections Make sure that all components are connected firmly: Flexible shaft to drive unit. Flexible shaft to pump. Pressure hose to pump. Otherwise this could result in damage to or malfunction of the submersible pump. Protection against objects Make sure that no objects are on or can fall on flexible shaft or outlet hose. Otherwise this could result in damage to components or the interruption of the pumping process. Protecting the flexible shaft Make sure that the flexible shaft is not bent too severely and does not run over sharp edges. Otherwise move the hose protection to the kink for protection. 12 Regulations for safety instructions PF Operating safety of combustible engines Do not change the engine speed Do not change the preset engine speed. This could cause engine damage. Dangers during operation Combustible engines can be dangerous, particularly during operation and when refueling. Read and follow all warnings in the operator's manual of the engine manufacturer and the safety measures listed below. Otherwise there is a risk of personal injury and/or material damage! You must not leave the engine running near spilt fuel or if you can smell fuel. Danger of explosion! Remove the unit from such areas. Remove the spilt fuel immediately! Preventing fires Open flames and smoking are strictly prohibited in the immediate vicinity of the unit. Make sure that waste, such as paper, dry leaves or grass do not accumulate around the exhaust muffler. They can easily ignite. Safety precautions when refueling Please observe the following safety-relevant instructions when refueling: Switch off the engine and allow it to cool down. Refuel in a well-ventilated environment. Do not refuel near open flames. Do not smoke. Use the correct fuel grade. Do not mix fuel with other liquids. Fill the tank only up to the maximum marking. Do not spill fuel, especially onto hot parts. Remove any spilt fuel immediately. Lock the fuel cap securely after refueling. Checking for signs of damage Check the engine while turned off for leaks and cracks in the fuel line, tank and fuel cap at least once per work shift. Do not start the engine if there is visible damage. Have any damage or defects eliminated immediately. 12

13 PF 3 Regulations for safety instructions No operation in closed quarters Do not operate the unit in closed quarters! In partially closed rooms such as tunnels, drifts or deep trenches, ensure sufficient ventilation by, for example, providing a powerful exhaust air fan. Danger of poisoning! Do not inhale exhaust fumes. They contain toxic carbon monoxide that can lead to unconsciousness or death. Caution with hot parts Do not touch any hot parts such as the engine block or exhaust muffler during operation or directly afterwards. These parts can become very hot and cause severe burns. Shutting off the fuel tap When the unit stops, shut off the fuel tap. Cleaning the engine Clean the engine cooling fins when the engine has cooled down. Do not use gasoline or solvents. Danger of explosion! 3.9 Maintenance Maintenance work Maintenance and repair work must be carried out only to the extent described in this operator's manual. All other procedures must be performed by Wacker Service. For further information, please see the chapter Maintenance. Switching off the engine Before carrying out maintenance or repair work, switch off the engine and allow it to cool down. For petrol-powered engines, you must pull off the spark plug connector. 14 Regulations for safety instructions PF Labels Your unit has adhesive labels containing the most important instructions and safety information. Make sure that all the labels are kept legible. Replace any missing or illegible labels. Labels Description Read the operator's manual. The pump head sucks water through the suction strainer and pumps it through the pressure hose. Operator s Manual 17

19 PF 3 Transport 5.2 Transporting the unit DANGER Danger of fire and explosions by fuel! Any fuel that escapes can ignite and cause severe burns. Lift and move the unit in upright position. Turn off the engine and allow it to cool down. Close the fuel tap. Note: We recommend that the fuel tank is emptied and the carburetor is run dry prior to transporting it. Fuel could run out, e.g. if the unit is tilted. WARNING Danger due to the unit falling! If the unit falls, it can cause severe injury such as crushing. Only use suitable and tested hoisting gear and lifting tackle of sufficient lifting capacity. Attach the unit firmly to the hoisting gear. Use suitable lifting tackle at the lifting eyes. Lift the unit evenly at the lifting eyes. Carefully set the unit down on a suitable transport vehicle. Use at least two tie-down lugs to fasten the unit. Operator s Manual 19

20 Operation PF 3 6 Operation WARNING Read and follow all the safety instructions at the beginning of this operator's manual, see chapter Regulations for safety instructions. Improper use can result in injury or serious material damage. 6.1 Prior to putting the unit into service Before you start the engine, check the following: Fuel level the tank should be at least half full. Oil level see 7.2 Checking the oil level (page 27). Air filter see 7.4 Cleaning the air filter / replacing the air filter inserts (page 29). Fuel lines for leaks. Warming up the engine Prior to operating the submersible pump, the drive engine should have the correct operating temperature. WARNING Danger due to rotating parts! Risk of injury to hands. Prior to starting the engine, the flexible shaft must be disconnected from the drive. Start the engine and let it warm up for 2-3 minutes, see Starting the engine (page 23). Then switch the engine back off again. 20

21 PF 3 Operation 6.2 Fitting the submersible pump To put the submersible pump into service, the engine should first have the correct operating temperature. WARNING Danger due to rotating parts! Risk of injury to hands. Prior to starting the engine, the flexible shaft must be disconnected from the drive. Tighten the cap nut firmly by hand. Operator s Manual 21

22 Operation PF 3 Connecting the pressure hose to the pump head Fit the pressure hose on the pressure connection and fasten with hose clamp. Immersing the pump head in water CAUTION In shallow water the pump head can hit the bottom. This could result in damage to suction strainer or impeller. Carefully immerse the pump head in water. Carefully immerse the pump head in water. Lay the pressure hose in such a way, that it is neither twisted nor kinked. This ensures unrestricted flow. Connecting the flexible shaft to the drive Turn the ring on the drive in clockwise direction up to the stop and hold it. Insert the flexible shaft in the housing right up to the stop. Let go of the ring. Make sure that the flexible shaft is locked firmly in place. Lay the flexible shaft in such a way that it is not bent too severely and does not run over sharp edges. Otherwise move the hose protection to the vulnerable point. 22

23 PF 3 Operation 6.3 Starting up CAUTION On starting the engine, the pump starts and pumps water. If water escapes, this can cause flooding. Make sure that the pressure hose is laid correctly. Starting the engine a2 b2 a1 b1 c1 c2 c3 d2 d1 e wc_gr Open the fuel tap (a1). Cold start: close the choke (d2). Warm start: open the choke (d1). Note: The engine is hand warm or hotter with warm start. Set the engine switch to ON (b2). Push the throttle lever to the left (c2). Pull out the starter cord (e) until compression resistance can be felt and then let it roll back in again. Pull the starter cord with force, but not suddenly. The engine starts. Open the choke while the engine is warming up. Open the throttle lever completely for operation (c1). Note: Pay attention to any abnormal engine noises or uneven running. Operator s Manual 23

24 Operation PF Putting the unit out of operation Once the water is removed by the pump, continue to run the engine at idle speed for another 2-3 minutes. Switching off the engine Push the throttle lever to the right to idle operation (c3). Set the engine switch to OFF (b1). Close the fuel tap (a2). Removing the flexible shaft from the drive Turn the ring on the drive in clockwise direction up to the stop and hold it. Remove the flexible shaft from the housing. Let go of the ring. Removing the flexible shaft from the pump head Open the cap nut. Pull the flexible shaft out of the bearing housing. Removing the pressure hose from the pump head Release the hose clamp. Remove the pressure hose from the pressure connection. Preparing the components for transport Roll up the flexible shaft. Roll up the pressure hose. 6.5 Cleaning Cleaning the submersible pump Remove any dirt or dust from drive, pump head, flexible shaft and pressure hose after use. 24

25 PF 3 Maintenance 7 Maintenance WARNING Danger of poisoning by exhaust fumes! Exhaust fumes contain toxic carbon monoxide that can lead to unconsciousness or death. Always switch off the engine during maintenance work! 7.1 Maintenance schedule Task Daily before operation After the first 20 hours Weekly or every 25 hours Monthly or every 100 hours Annually or every 300 hours Check the fuel: - fuel level of tank - tank for leaks - lines for leaks Check the oil level of the drive Check the pump head: - for loose parts - housing, impeller, main shaft and oil seal for wear and cracks Check the flexible shaft: - the coupling for wear - the protective hose for wear and cracks - grease must be free of dirt and metal chips It must be possible to easily turn the main shafts of pump head, flexible shaft and connections to the drive Check the pressure hose for wear and cracks Check the unit for abnormal operating noise Clean air filter Change the engine oil Operator s Manual 25

CAUTION Malfunction of the oil seal in the pump! Water could penetrate the engine via the flexible shaft. Stop the engine immediately and eliminate the problem. 26

27 PF 3 Maintenance 7.2 Checking the oil level?1 > = 2 M? C H & % Place the unit upright on a flat surface. Remove any dirt around the oil level dipstick. Remove the oil level dipstick (1) and wipe it with a clean, lint-free cloth. Insert the oil level dipstick again entirely and pull it out again. Check: the oil level must be between the lower and upper marks. If necessary, pour new engine oil into the opening (2) until the upper mark is reached on the oil level dipstick (see chapter Technical data for oil type). Insert the oil level dipstick and tighten it by hand. Operator s Manual 27

28 Maintenance PF Changing the engine oil Note: The work area should be covered with a waterproof sheet to protect the floor (protection of the environment).?1 > = 2 3 M? C H & % Place the unit upright on a flat surface. Bring the engine to a hand warm temperature, either by letting it cool down or running it until it is warm. Switch off the engine. Remove any dirt around oil level dipstick (1) and oil drain screw (3). Place a sufficiently large container under the oil drain screw to catch the used oil. Remove the oil level dipstick and wipe it with a clean, lint-free cloth. Use a screw wrench to remove the oil drain screw and drain the entire used oil. Note: Avoid spilling oil. Remove any spilt oil immediately. Reinsert the oil drain screw and use a torque wrench to tighten it to 30 Nm. Pour new engine oil into the opening (2) until the upper mark is reached on the oil level dipstick. In doing so, insert the oil level dipstick and pull it out again repeatedly. See the chapter Technical data for oil quantity and oil type. Note: Avoid spilling oil. Remove any spilt oil immediately. Insert the oil level dipstick and tighten it by hand. Note: Dispose of the used oil in accordance with the applicable regulations. 28

29 PF 3 Maintenance 7.4 Cleaning the air filter / replacing the air filter inserts The air filter is equipped with two air filter inserts. WARNING Danger of fire and explosions if the wrong cleaning agent is used. Do not use petrol or any other solvents to clean components. Note: The air filter must be cleaned every day if conditions are adverse, dry and dusty. Replace the air filter inserts if it is no longer possible to remove the dirt. 1 a2 3 b4 c5 wc_gr Unscrew the wing nut (1) and remove the cap (2). Clean the filter bracket around the air filter inserts (with compressed air). Unscrew the inner wing nut (3) and remove air filter inserts. Carefully remove the foam insert (4) from the paper insert (5). Check both parts for damage. Replace any damaged parts. Wash the foam insert with warm water and a mild soap solution. Rinse with clear water. Let it dry. Clean the paper insert by knocking it gently and clean it with compressed air from the inside to the outside. Reassemble it in reverse order or with new inserts. Tighten the wing nuts by hand. CAUTION Operating the engine without air filter can cause rapid engine wear. Do not run the engine without an air filter. Operator s Manual 29

30 Maintenance PF Cleaning the fuel dirt separator DANGER Danger of fire and explosions by fuel! Any fuel in open containers can ignite and cause severe burns. Do not smoke, no open fire! 1 a2 wc_gr Place the unit upright on a flat surface. Close the fuel tap (1). Remove any dirt around the fuel dirt separator (2). Place a container under the fuel dirt separator to catch the fuel. Use an open-end wrench to remove the fuel dirt separator and empty it into the container. Note: Avoid spilling fuel. Remove any spilt fuel immediately. Clean the fuel dirt separator with petrol. Insert the fuel dirt separator with the seal and use a torque wrench to tighten it to 5 Nm. Check for leaks: Open the fuel tap. No drops of fuel should emerge. Note: Dispose of the contents of the container in accordance with the applicable regulations. 30

31 PF 3 Maintenance 7.6 Checking / cleaning / replacing the spark plug WARNING Hot exhaust! Touching it can cause burns. Only remove the spark plug when the engine has cooled down. 1 2 Remove the spark plug connector. Remove the spark plug with a spark plug wrench. Clean the electrodes with a wire brush. Check the isolator (2) if damaged, replace the spark plug. Check and adjust the electrode gap (1) see chapter Technical data for the gap. Insert the spark plug and tighten it with a torque wrench.
