1 320A Single Phase URD Meter Loop Installations Location: The meter loop shall be mounted on the side of the pedestal facing the consumer's lot. (The side being one of the four flat surfaces of the pedestal which faces towards the consumer's lot.) Weatherproof fused or breaker protected main disconnect panel will have a main disconnect on the outside of the building regardless of the number of circuit breakers. Rack: 1. Shall be self supporting with a minimum of 2" schedule 40 galvanized rigid pipes and caps, cut to the required length, with two feet of the pipe set in the ground in concrete. 2. It shall be stood away from the pedestal a minimum of 18" and not more than 24" with a 3" schedule 40 galvanized rigid pipe nipple of required length. 3. Grounding bushings shall be installed on the 3" nipple inside the meter socket and pedestal with regular locknuts backing them up on the outside of the meter socket and meter pedestal. 4. The cross supports for the meter socket, panel, or panels shall be a minimum of 3/4" x 1 1/2" unistrut of the required length and shall not extend past the rigid pipe supports more than 2" and shall be bolted firmly to the rigid pipe. Wire Size: Shall be a minimum of 350 copper or equivalent aluminum with equal size neutral or one standard size smaller. (Parallel conductors of 2/0 copper and 4/0 aluminum for residences may be used.) Installation of the Wire: The wire shall run from the line side of the meter socket into the pedestal allowing 36" of tail to connect to the pedestal connectors and the same size wire or equivalent parallel conductors shall be run from the load side of the meter socket to the panel or panels. (If parallel conductors are used, double barrel lugs shall be used. Customer must purchase double barrel lugs if needed.) Pipe Nipples Between the Meter, s, and Gutters: 1. 3" Schedule 40 galvanized rigid or IMC nipples shall be used between the meter socket and 400A panel or gutter when used. 2. 2" Schedule 40 galvanized rigid or IMC nipples shall be used between the meter socket and or 125A panels or between or 125A panels and the gutter. Grounding Bushings: Shall be used on the inside of the meter socket, panel, or panels attached to the grounding bus bar with a #6 copper grounding conductor. Neutral conductor must be electrically continuous through the meter socket to the main panel and must be attached to the meter socket.
