INTRODUCTION This vehicle is designed to operate either exclusively on CNG (dedicated) or separately on gasoline (bi-fuel). Westport Inc. is a leader in the alternative fuel vehicle (AFV) industry providing advanced engine control systems for use on a broad array of applications including passenger car, light, medium and heavy-duty trucks; transit buses; and industrial engines. ABOUT THIS MANUAL This manual is a supplement to the OEM vehicle owner s guide and is part of your owner s package. It describes the operation of your CNG vehicle including special instructions for service and maintenance of the CNG related equipment. It is important that you read and thoroughly familiarize yourself (and any others who operate the vehicle) with this important information. NATURAL GAS FUEL Natural gas is a clean-burning high-octane fuel, making it highly suitable for mobile engine applications. Natural gas is a mixture of hydrocarbon gases consisting primarily of methane (CH4). Methane as a hydrocarbon is considered non-reactive, non-toxic, noncarcinogenic, and non-corrosive. When used as a motor fuel, the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) has established a minimum methane content standard of 95% (SAE J1616). Use of natural gas from sources that do not meet the SAE J1616 standard, i.e. well gas, landfill gas, is NOT recommended and could damage the system (use of fuel that does not meet minimum methane content may void your Westport warranty). SYSTEM OPERATION CNG is stored in the vehicle s on-board fuel cylinders at pressures up to 3600psi at 70 F (pressures fluctuate in direct correlation to ambient temperatures). From the cylinders, fuel flows through the 10-micron coalescent fuel filter to collect oil residue and contaminates. The fuel then flows to a pressure regulator that reduces the fuel to the desired pressure (typically psi). The CNG system is equipped with a pressure transducer that communicates with the factory fuel gauge, however due to CNG being temperature sensitive the gauge reading can fluctuate. From the regulator fuel goes to the injectors which are controlled by the on-board computer which calculates injector on-time based on inputs received from various sensors. Each fuel tank has electromechanical actuators. These actuators, known as electronic solenoid valves, are integrated into you OEM wiring harness and utilize the fuel cut off safety features built in from the factory. These solenoids will make an audible noise when actuating. In case of items listed below fuel will be cut off when: Ignition in OFF position Air bags deploy and/or fuel inertia switch is activated No engine RPM signal is received for 5 seconds or more Each fuel tank is also equipped with a mechanical shut off and at least one Manual Shut-off valve in the high pressure line. These devices close off the flow from the cylinders to the pressure regulator for added safety in the event of an emergency or when performing maintenance on the system. WARNINGS Throughout this supplement WARNINGS and NOTES are used to point out items of special significance. The WARNINGS and NOTES indicate the need for special care to avoid personal injury, CNG system damage or damage to the vehicle. Supplemental Owners Guide revised REV. F 3/17/2015 Page 5 of 16

NOTE: Procedures contained in this document are to be performed by qualified technicians properly trained to service CNG vehicles. Service by unqualified personnel can result in bodily injury or damage to the vehicle. CNG systems contain high pressures up to 3600psi Do not attempt to service the CNG system while system is pressurized All CNG shields and vent bags MUST be in place for operation DO NOT re-flash vehicles PCM (it will erase CNG program) When refueling the vehicle, extinguish all smoking materials and shut off engine Disconnect the battery whenever performing electrical work Avoid jump starting if possible-do NOT use charger in start mode-it will damage the fuel gauge module. Set the charger on slow charge then disconnect prior to starting vehicle VEHICLE IDENTIFICATION AND LABELING A blue diamond-shaped CNG label is required to be installed on the passenger side of the vehicle above rear bumper. Additionally a label is required to designate the location of the Manual Shutoff Valve. If any of these labels are missing or illegible please contact Westport for replacements. Manual Shut-off WARNING: This vehicle contains natural gas under pressure. Only certified, trained personnel should perform needed services. CNG only; System Pressure 3600-psi. SAFETY INFORMATION As with all vehicles, it is the responsibility of the driver to operate the vehicle safely under all driving conditions. Follow the safety procedures outlined in this manual and the vehicle s Owner s Manual. Supplemental Owners Guide revised REV. F 3/17/2015 Page 6 of 16

LOCAL REGULATIONS Certain state and other local authorities have enacted guidelines and regulations that directly affect the operation and storage of your CNG vehicle. These may include: refueling, parking, and operation under bridges or in tunnels. Your nearest authorized Service Center has this information available. HIGH SPEED DRIVING Warning: Obey all posted speed limits. Driving too fast for road conditions is dangerous and creates the potential for loss of control and personnel injury. Driving at high speeds for extended periods, under certain circumstances may result in damage to vehicle components. Some vehicles come equipped with electronic controls that limit the maximum engine and road speed in high gear. The CNG system installed on this vehicle may disable this limiter function. It is important to observe the speed limitations outlined in the vehicle owner s guide. PAINTING YOUR VEHICLE Do not place this vehicle in a heated paint room known as a paint oven to cure the paint. Paint ovens typically operate at temperatures up to 140 F (60 C). Such high temperatures could cause damage to the CNG system. WARNING: Failure to follow this procedure may cause a dangerous over-pressure condition that could be hazardous to personnel and cause property damage. BATTERY JUMP STARTING VEHICLE Your CNG vehicle uses solid-state electronic modules to maintain proper operation. NOTE - Attempting to jump-start a dead or low battery without taking the proper precautions may cause serious damage. Electronic components damaged by voltage spikes are not covered by the Westport limited warranty 1. Ensure vehicles are not touching 2. Properly identify the positive and negative terminals on the batteries 3. Make connections to the dead battery first 4. Follow all precautions outlined in the vehicle owner s manual 5. If possible charge battery using battery charger on low charge and disconnect prior to starting WELDING WARNING: Do not weld on or near CNG fuel lines of storage tanks. 1. Disconnect both battery cables from the battery 2. Consult the vehicle Owner s Manual concerning welding on your vehicle. NOTE If the CNG system must be disconnected for welding, authorized personnel must test the system, prior to the vehicle is returning to service. EMERGENCY PROCEDURES If your CNG vehicle is involved in an accident or a fire the entire CNG system must be inspected and tested for proper operation by a properly trained technician before the vehicle is put back into service. Per NFPA chapter 6- Supplemental Owners Guide revised REV. F 3/17/2015 Page 7 of 16

FUELING INSTRUCTIONS Your CNG vehicle utilizes a quick disconnect, NGV-1 type fill receptacle designed for 3,600 psi operation. This vehicle can be refueled from any CNG fuel source utilizing a NGV-1 dispenser nozzle, whether 2,400 psi (green dispenser), 3,000 psi (blue dispenser), or 3,600 psi (yellow dispenser) without the need for special tooling. Included on your vehicle is a dust cover to prevent debris from collecting at the fill connection and a one-way check valve to prevent backflow of fuel when the fill hose is disconnected. NOTE The nozzle/receptacle connection could disengage during refueling; therefore drivers should not stand between the fuel nozzle/receptacle connection and the dispenser when refueling. 1. Extinguish all smoking materials and shut off engine 2. Open the fuel door and remove the protective cap on the vehicle s fuel receptacle 3. Remove the fueling nozzle from the dispenser 4. Inspect the fueling hose and nozzle for damage 5. Place the nozzle on the receptacle and pull back to ensure it is secured 6. Turn fueling valve handle on the nozzle to open position and begin fueling 7. After fueling is complete, follow the reversal of the above process FOR BI-FUEL APPLICATIONS 1. The CNG refueling procedure is the same for dedicated and bi-fuel products. 2. Use of E-85 is NOT ALLOWED on bi-fuel models. 3. Gasoline must not remain un-circulated in system for more than 60 days; operator must periodically run the engine on gasoline (not including initial starting). NOTE Fill time varies between 5 7 minutes based on CNG station operation; some fill stations can take significantly longer. NOTE Local regulations may place restrictions on fueling your CNG vehicle. In certain localities only qualified personnel are allowed to fuel your CNG vehicle. MALFUNCTION INDICATOR LAMP The Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) illuminates briefly when the ignition is turned on. If it remains on after the engine is started, the On Board Diagnostic System (OBD) has detected a malfunction. If the light is blinking, an engine misfire is occurring which could damage your catalytic converter. Drive in a moderate fashion and contact your authorized CNG service center as soon as possible. If unable to find an authorized CNG repair station refer to Supplemental Owners Guide revised REV. F 3/17/2015 Page 9 of 16

FUEL GAUGE On dedicated CNG models the volume of the fuel in the storage tanks is displayed on the original gasoline dash gauge. For bi-fuel models see below: BI-FUEL GAUGE OPERATION The Westport WiNG Gauge displays the amount of pressure remaining in the CNG tank. This gauge also includes a discreet indicator of which fuel system is in operation. Ford F-Series/Transit and Transit Connect Bi-fuel Gauge When the Gasoline Dispenser is lit, the vehicle is running on gasoline. 11 MAINTENANCE To keep your CNG vehicle operating reliably maintenance procedures must be performed on a regularly scheduled basis. Refer to the maintenance chart at the back of this supplement. Follow all other maintenance recommendations contained in the OEM vehicle owner s guide. FUEL FILTERS As with any fuel system, contamination of the CNG fuel can result in poor engine performance. This vehicle is equipped with a primary high-pressure coalescent filter assembly located between the tank and pressure regulator. The HP coalescent filter assembly is a twopiece housing including a removable sump area that allows liquids (oils) to drop out of the flow of CNG. Inside this area moisture is trapped in a replaceable 10-micron filter element. A drain plug in the bottom of the filter housing provides a convenient method to drain off any liquid that may accumulate (Without proper scheduled maintenance your Westport warranty could be void). NOTE Filters should be changed every 12,000 miles or by fleet or individual discretion, depending on condition of local fuel stations.. LEAK CHECK Due to normal thermal expansion and contraction, as well as vehicle flexing and vibration, small leaks can occur in the CNG system. As a regularly scheduled maintenance item a leak check should be performed every 6,000 miles. Visually inspect all connections and use an electronic detector or soapy water solution spray to check for bubbles. For the most accurate testing make sure the system is fully pressurized and all control valves are open. To properly test for leakage in the low-pressure components the engine must be running. As an additional safety feature Mercaptan is added as an odorant to Natural Gas. NOTE Due to dissipation of fuel collected in the intake manifold a slight smell is normal on startup or just after shut-down but it should dissipate quickly within a couple of minutes.
