9 Operating Instructions Read the entire Important Safety Information section at the beginning of this manual including all text under subheadings therein before set up or use of this product. Inspect engine and equipment looking for damaged, loose, and missing parts before set up and starting. If any problems are found, do not use equipment until fixed properly. Engine Operation Follow engine starting and operating instructions in the included engine instruction manual. Check the engine s oil and fuel level before starting. Add oil and fuel if needed according to the engine s instructions. Wipe up only spilled gas/oil. Replacement engine operating instructions can be obtained from the engine manufacturer. Equipment Control Locations Throttle Control Engine Emergency Shutoff Switch Equipment Operation To prevent accidents, shut engine off and the release shutoff switch, disabling the engine. Using two people, carry Auger to Location for hole. Place one finger on the red Emergency Shutoff Switch. Releasing this switch stops the Engine of the Auger and prevents it from starting Follow starting procedures in engine manual that accompanies this Auger. With the Throttle Control on low, allow the Bit to dig slowly at first into the soil. Slowly increase the Throttle to full holding all Handles firmly. When you have reached the depth you want, slowly extract the Auger. Keep the Auger Bit turning as you pull it from the hole. This allows easy extraction. When the hole you are drilling is finished, release the Emergency Shutoff Switch to shut down the Engine. Both operators then can carry the Auger to the next location and repeat the previous steps to drill the next hole. To prevent accidents, turn off the engine and disconnect its spark plug wire after use. Wait for the engine to cool, clean external parts with clean, moist cloth, then store the equipment out of children s reach according to the Storage instructions in this manual. Page 9

10 Servicing Risk of serious personal injury from accidental starting. Turn the engine off, wait for the engine to cool, and unplug the spark plug wire(s) before performing any inspection, maintenance, or cleaning procedures. WARNING Damaged equipment can fail, causing serious personal injury. Do not use damaged equipment. If abnormal noise, vibration, or excess smoking occurs, have the problem corrected before further use. Maintenance Procedures Many maintenance procedures, including any not detailed in this manual, will need to be performed by a qualified technician for safety. If you have any doubts about your ability to safely service the equipment or engine, have a qualified technician service the equipment instead. Yearly, open the Reducer Case and check the grease level. Add grease only up to top of gears. Do not overfill grease; overfilling will damage the equipment. 5. Storage Wait for engine to cool, then clean equipment with clean cloth. Clean the engine and/or prepare it for storage according to engine manual instructions. Apply a thin coat of rust preventive oil to all metal parts. Cover and store in a dry, well-ventilated area out of reach of children. For cold weather operation, store the equipment in a cool dry area to prevent condensation and premature wear. Note: These procedures are in addition to the regular checks and maintenance explained as part of the regular operation of the engine and equipment. Engine Maintenance and Service Follow the instructions found in the included engine manual regarding engine maintenance and service. Equipment Lubrication Reducer Case (5) is shipped full of 4 oz. of grease. Page 10
