WHEATHEART - HYDROSTATIC BIN SWEEP STANDARD, PORTABLE, TRUCK MOUNT, & SUPER SWEEP 3. Assembly 3. ASSEMBLY 3.1. MOUNTING THE SPIDER Warning: Before continuing, please reread the safety information relevant to this section at the beginning of this manual. Failure to follow the safety instructions can result in serious injury, death, or property damage MOUNTING THE SPIDER WHEATHEART & BRANDT / ANY FOUR-ROD CAGE MODELS Important: 1. Tack weld pivot hole spider on top as illustrated in Figure 3.1. Although the drawings do not show the safety mesh, only the mesh rods at the pivot hole should be removed, leaving the remainder of the cage intact. Pivot spider is only tack welded for proper positioning. 2. Once it is tack welded, swing the motor mount the full 360. Make sure it does not catch on the guard cage or the transport hitch, and ensure the pivot hole plate is near level with the ground when the auger is in the working position. 3. Weld securely. Refer to Figure 3.1. Note: Figure 3.1 Mounting Spider on Four Rod Cages The end of the auger bearing to the center of the pivot hole should measure approximately SAKUNDIAK / ANY CENTER ROD CAGE MODELS 1. Remove legs from spider. Although the drawings do not show the safety mesh, only the mesh rods at the pivot hole should be removed, leaving the remainder of the cage intact. IM1 R3 13

3. ASSEMBLY WHEATHEART - HYDROSTATIC BIN SWEEP 3.2. HYDRAULIC PUMP KIT INSTALLATION (PORTABLE MODEL) STANDARD, PORTABLE, TRUCK MOUNT, & SUPER SWEEP 2. Cut 3" off the center rod so that the end of the auger bearing to the center of the pivot hole measures about 9. Set the auger at the usual height for loading trucks. Weld in the pivot bracket, level to the floor. The center of the motor shaft should be about 3-4 off the floor. Be careful that the pivot hook does not touch the auger flighting when inserted. Refer to Figure 3.2. Note: Figure 3.2 Mounting Spider on Center Top Cages The end of the auger bearing to the center of the pivot hole should measure approximately HYDRAULIC PUMP KIT INSTALLATION (PORTABLE MODEL) Important: 1. Place the single groove pulley (supplied) behind the grain auger drive pulley on the gas/electric engine. In most cases, the pump bracket bolts directly to the gas engine (see Figure 3.3). If using an electric motor or if otherwise necessary, L brackets can be supplied to bolt the pump to the grain auger motor mount. Pump placement may be changed, but the pump must run in a counterclockwise direction (when facing the pump) within working speeds of rpm. Figure IM1 R3

WHEATHEART - HYDROSTATIC BIN SWEEP STANDARD, PORTABLE, TRUCK MOUNT, & SUPER SWEEP 3. ASSEMBLY 3.2. HYDRAULIC PUMP KIT INSTALLATION (PORTABLE MODEL) PUMP GUARD INSTALLATION 1. Bolt the pump guard bracket to the over-center pump bracket. The bracket should be installed at the pump end of the long, adjustable slot through the middle of the over-center bracket (see Figure 3.4A). Two washers should be placed between the pump guard bracket and the over-center bracket so that the angle of the bracket may be adjusted to the belt. 2. Attach the pump guard to the pump guard bracket (see Figure 3.4B). Align the pump guard with the belt that runs between the pump and the engine. The pump guard bracket may need to be adjusted to achieve the appropriate angle. Ensure that there is adequate clearance between the belt and the pump guard in both released and unreleased positions. Figure OIL RESERVOIR INSTALLATION Note: 1. The reservoir must be mounted so that the oil level remains above the pump (Figure 3.5). To reduce weight at the intake end, mount the tank as close as possible to the axle of the grain auger. Type A automatic transmission oil or a synthetic 0 weight oil is recommended because they take less power to operate and stay thinner in colder temperatures. 2. Weld reservoir brackets to the frame of the auger (bolt on for Wheatheart augers). The brackets are slotted to allow the hose clamps to slide underneath and securely hold the reservoir in place. IM1 R3 15

3. ASSEMBLY WHEATHEART - HYDROSTATIC BIN SWEEP 3.3. SUPERSWEEP ASSEMBLY STANDARD, PORTABLE, TRUCK MOUNT, & SUPER SWEEP RELIEF VALVE INSTALLATION 1. The port labelled P on the relief valve must be connected to the OUT (pressure) side of the pump (Figure 3.6), or directly to the pressure source if using a remote hydraulic source. 2. The port labelled T on the relief valve must be connected to the tank or reservoir of the bin sweep. 3. The 2 fittings opposite P and T on the relief valve are connected to the hydraulic motor (Figure 3.6). 4. If the motor turns the wrong way, first verify that the pressure and tank connections are correct. If the motor still turns the wrong way, cross the hydraulic lines between valve and motor SUPERSWEEP ASSEMBLY WARNING Be sure relief valve hook up is correct; otherwise, the relief valve will not kick out and serious injury or death to the operator can occur FLIGHTING KIT The Supersweep flighting kit (see Figure 3.12) consists of: a motor coupler a universal section with a u-joint and floating wheel a straight section with a walking shoe two plain, straight sections Note: Figure 3.11 Motor Coupler for Supersweep The motor coupler for the Supersweep (Figure 3.11) is different than the regular bin sweep coupler. 20 IM1 R3

SUPERSWEEP WHEEL MOVE ASSEMBLY (OPTIONAL) Important: Assemble on a flat surface. 1. Slide the outermost Supersweep backboard over the drivewheel alignment pin and driveshaft. 2. Insert the hairpin to prevent the backboard from sliding back. 3. Place the backboard locking bracket against the backboard and over the backboard mount bracket. 4. Mark and drill the hole locations for bolting, or the location for welding the locking bracket to the backboard. Figure IM1 R3

WHEATHEART - HYDROSTATIC BIN SWEEP STANDARD, PORTABLE, TRUCK MOUNT, & SUPER SWEEP 4. Operation 4. OPERATION 4.1. SUPERSWEEP OPERATION Warning: Before continuing, please reread the safety information relevant to this section at the beginning of this manual. Failure to follow the safety instructions can result in serious injury, death, or property damage SUPERSWEEP OPERATION DANGER Rotating Flighting Hazard! Keep away from rotating auger flighting. Do not operate with guards removed or modified. Keep in good working order. Shut off and remove key or lock out power source before inspecting, unplugging, or servicing machine. Note: To assemble the Supersweep, please refer to Section 3.3. on page 20. The Supersweep requires more power to operate than the regular sweep. If it does, you will need to set up the kick-down valve on the relief valve. To set: Increase pressure in the system by loosening the lock nut and turning in the pressure adjustment bolt clockwise 1/8 turn at a time until enough power is achieved (with safety in mind). See Figure 4.1. Figure 4.1 NOTICE If the relief valve is turned up too high, the relief will not kick out and could result in damage toequipment or injury to the operator. IM1 R3 23

4. OPERATION WHEATHEART - HYDROSTATIC BIN SWEEP 4.1. SUPERSWEEP OPERATION STANDARD, PORTABLE, TRUCK MOUNT, & SUPER SWEEP STARTING THE SUPERSWEEP Important: The Supersweep is an aggressive bin sweep. When starting the sweep in an inbin situation, you must slowly lower the flighting down to the floor manually with the backboard handle. If these instructions are not followed, the sweep will bury itself down to the grain, kicking out the relief valve and shutting itself off. If this should occur, you will have to dig the unit out with a shovel. Do not attempt to pull out manually. NOTICE Pulling out a buried sweep by force could damage the flighting or flighting alignment. 1. Lay the bin sweep on grain on the left-hand side of the auger, with the auger facing into the bin 2. Turn the bin sweep on, and let it work itself down to the floor. Grasp the bin sweep by the handle, restraining it as it works its way to the bin floor. 3. Let the bin sweep work into the pile, cleaning up behind as you go. Adjust the speed of travel with the relief valve or by pulling the bin sweep backward/ forward with the handle. Figure 4.2 NOTES FOR SUPERSWEEP USE The rubber kicker on each section's stationary wheel is adjustable - the further out it is, the more it drives the sweep forward into the pile. The kicker is adjusted by placing or removing washers between the plate and the kicker Adjusting the kicker too far out will cause excessive wear on the kicker and result in rough sweep operation. In case of drag on bin sweep sections, check for build-up of material around bushings (ice, mud, etc.) or misalignment of welded bushing strut. Some operators prefer to let the bin sweep run twice to reduce the center pile to make it easier to clean up. 24 IM1 R3

WHEATHEART - HYDROSTATIC BIN SWEEP STANDARD, PORTABLE, TRUCK MOUNT, & SUPER SWEEP 4. OPERATION 4.2. OPERATING THE PORTABLE / TRUCK MOUNT SUPERSWEEP The maximum length of the bin sweep with a regular pump should not exceed three straight sections. If adding more sections, you will need to upgrade your pump OPERATING THE PORTABLE / TRUCK MOUNT SUPERSWEEP Figure 4.3 Chain Clamp Mounting NOTES FOR PORTABLE SUPERSWEEP USE: Working with pivot brackets, pivot arm, and bin sweep flighting is the same as with the standard bin sweep. A portable chain clamp is substituted for pivot brackets ( on page 35). A chain clamp allows quick movement of bin sweep from auger to auger. This unit comes standard with over-center belt tightener on the pump. This allows for easier starting of gas engine (Figure 4.4). Operate motor unit from outside working area, on as level a position as possible. Fire Hazard! WARNING Grain dust is combustible; be sure motor unit is not operated in an area with high levels of grain dust. If motor unit is tipped over when not in operation, it will likely flood cylinder and carburetor. We suggest that you: Remove spark plug and replace or clean it. With the spark plug out, crank engine 4-6 times to clear cylinder. Finally, replace the spark plug and start the engine. After running bin sweep momentarily, shut the unit down, and check the hydraulic oil reservoir. Do not fill the reservoir, but leave 1/2 L (qt) of space for oil fluctuation. IM1 R3 25

OPERATING THE PORTABLE / TRUCK MOUNT SUPERSWEEP STANDARD, PORTABLE, TRUCK MOUNT, & SUPER SWEEP Figure 4.4 Over-Center Belt Tightener NOTES FOR TRUCK MOUNT SUPERSWEEP USE: Make sure that the sweep is spinning the right way. If it is going the wrong way, the return line and pressure line have been mixed up. 26 IM1 R3

WHEATHEART - HYDROSTATIC BIN SWEEP STANDARD, PORTABLE, TRUCK MOUNT, & SUPER SWEEP 5. Maintenance 5. MAINTENANCE 5.1. GENERAL MAINTENANCE Warning: Before continuing, please reread the safety information relevant to this section at the beginning of this manual. Failure to follow the safety instructions can result in serious injury, death, or property damage GENERAL MAINTENANCE 1. For best results, change the oil in the system after the first 3 hours of operation. 2. Change the oil annually to remove accumulations of dirt or condensation in the system. Replace with Type A automatic transmission oil do not overfill. Leave 1/2 L (1 qt) of space to allow for fluctuations in oil level. 3. To prevent seepage, replace the O-rings (one each #113, #116) in the relief valve after long-term use or if they start leaking. 4. If the grain auger is to be used for a long period of time without needing the bin sweep (such as in harvest time), the belt should be removed from the pump system in order to avoid excessive wear ADJUSTING BELT TENSION CAUTION Oil escaping under pressure can have sufficient force to cause personal injury, and may be hot enough to cause skin burns. Before disconnecting the hydraulic hoses, relieve oil pressure. To make the belt tighter on the Portable Bin Sweep, see Figure 5.1. The belt on the pump is tightened by means of the linkage. The adjustment is from the welded stud, which tightens the belt by pushing the pump further away from the gas engine. Figure 5.1 Over-Center Handles IM1 R3 27
