Service Information A. Use vehicles owner s manual B. Identify the vehicle identification number (VIN) C. Locate under hood label D. Use the service manual E. Locate maintenance specifications F. Operate computerized retrieval system G. Use flat rate manual H. Properly fill out and use a repair order IV. Basic Shop Procedures A. Identify and use measuring instruments 1. Measure to within 1/64 using a ruler or measuring tape 2. Measure a gap using a feeler gauge 3. Measure with a standard vernier and dial caliper 4. Measure with a standard micrometer 5. Convert between metric and inch measuring system B. Identify basic hand tools and lab equipment 1. Identify fastener grade and torque 2. Tighten fastener to specification 3. Drill and tap hole 4. Remove and replace a distributor cap and rotor K. Check and adjust ignition base timing to manufacture s specifications L. Check computer controlled ignition base timing M. Community Classroom (Optional) Students are eligible to participate in community classroom or coop (when available) upon completion of the basic course of instruction. Students will apply skills in a business placement, working under the direction of a business supervisor. Students will demonstrate good employment skills, as well as develop a better understanding of how the skills learned in the classroom are applied in an actual work setting.
