These are an overview of the process that will be performed by a skilled technician in our shop. They are not intended to be a guide for a do-it-yourself operation. 4

Brake fluid exchange service One of our skilled technicians will check the condition of your vehicle's brake fluid and, if necessary, remove contaminated fluid from the brake lines and master cylinder, replace the old fluid with appropriate brake fluid. The entire brake system will be inspected for leaks, master cylinder corrosion, worn pneumatic parts, harmful varnish build-up, broken or rusted bleeder valves, worn rotors and drums, and air in the brake lin Does your vehicle's brake pedal feel "spongy"? Brake fluid becomes contaminated over time and use. Heat and moisture can cause brake failure. Contaminated fluid leads to expensive repairs. AI-4 Harmful deposits on brake master cylinder piston assembly Worn-out, oxidized brake fluid causes corrosion and harmful deposits and varnish build up. A brake flush service should be performed when your brake fluid shows contamination or every 30,000 to 40,000 miles. Brake fluid before and after service Wheel alignment Inspect the front and rear suspension components for any signs of wear or damage. Using specialized wheel alignment equipment, adjust the suspension and wheels to the vehicle manufacture's specifications. Vehicle suspensions can wear with age and repeated heavy use. Rough road surfaces and an occasional pothole can change the vehicle's wheel alignment. A wheel alignment can improve your steering control and overall vehicle handling. It can also help prevent abnormal tire wear by bringing the vehicle suspension components back to the vehicle manufacturer's specifications. This important step will keep your vehicle driving the way it was designed to. An alignment is necessary any time a worn suspension part is replaced. AI-6 Abnormal tire wear from bad alignment Even slightly worn suspension components can affect the vehicle's wheel alignment. This can lead to premature wear of tires and reduce overall vehicle comfort and safety. A vehicle with worn-out suspension parts can be unsafe to drive. Maintaining your vehicle suspension and performing regular wheel alignments and tire rotations can keep your vehicle safe and reliable. Wheel alignment 5

Cabin filter replacement Access the cabin or pollen filter according to the vehicle manufacturer's service information. This usually involves opening the glove box and removing the bolt to lower the door. Remove the old cabin air filter from its housing. Replace with new cabin air filter. Replace the bolt to attach the glove box door. Close the glove box door. Clean the housing of all dust and debris. Install the new pollen filter into its housing. The cabin or pollen filter is designed to filter out dust, pollen and other particles that would normally make their way into your vehicle through the heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) systems. Pollen filters work very well, but need to be replaced as part of a scheduled maintenance program. Restricted and dirty pollen filters put a strain on the blower motor, which can cause it to be excessively noisy and even fail prematurely. This kind of strain on a blower motor can also cause problems with the vehicle wiring and electrical system, due to the excessive amperage required for the blower motor to function. Replacing the blower motor can be very expensive on some vehicles. AI-15 A dirty and clogged cabin air filter A clean cabin air filter A clean cabin or pollen filter can be very effective at keeping dust, pollen, and other unwanted particles from entering the interior of your car. Also, your blower motor will generate a higher volume of airflow, boosting the efficiency and effectiveness of your HVAC systems. Oil and filter change Completely drain all oil from the engine. Reinstall the oil drain plug using a new oil drain plug gasket, and torque the drain plug to the vehicle manufacturer's specifications. Remove the oil filter from the engine. Lubricate the seal on the new filter using clean motor oil. Install the new oil filter on the engine and tighten it to specification. Refill the engine with the correct amount of motor oil specified by the manufacturer. Start the engine and allow it run for over 30 seconds. Shut the engine off and check for any oil leaks beneath the vehicle. Check the oil level. Top off as necessary. Changing your engine oil and filter is the single most important vehicle maintenance that you can perform to ensure long engine life. Engine oil that is not changed when is should can develop sludge which can cause serious engine damage in less than 15,000 miles. Today's engine oils have additives and detergents that help to prevent sludge formation, but engine heat will eventually break down these additives so they can no longer protect your engine. The solution is to change your engine oil and filter at the recommended service intervals to ensure that your engine runs reliably for many years. AI-18 Sludge from lack of oil changes Clean, maintained engine internals 6

Changing your engine oil and filter at or before the factory recommended service interval is the best way to protect your engine from premature wear or complete failure. Today's modern engines commonly last far beyond 100,000 miles when they are properly maintained with regular oil and filter changes. An oil and filter change is an inexpensive way to promote engine longevity and ensure good engine performance. Windshield wiper blade replacement Remove the wiper blade inserts from the wiper arms following the vehicle manufacturer's instructions (found in the owner's guide). Install new wiper blade inserts onto the wiper arms. Thoroughly clean the windshield. The ability to drive safely interests all of us. Having a clean windshield is a necessity for safe driving. Most driving decisions are dependent on the driver having a clear view of the road ahead. Worn or torn wiper blades do not effectively clean the windshield, and a dirty windshield can obstruct the drivers view, possibly resulting in an accident. AI-19 Impaired view from worn wiper blades Most wiper blade manufacturers recommend replacing your wiper blades or wiper blade inserts every 6 months or 6,000 miles. Something as simple and as inexpensive as replacing your windshield wiper blades will make your driving experience for you and your family a safer one. Tire replacement Raise the vehicle using an automotive lift. Remove the rim and tire assembly from the vehicle. Remove the tire from the rim. Install a new valve stem assembly. Install a new tire on the rim. Inflate the tire to recommended pressure. Balance the tire and rim assembly on a computer-aided dynamic tire balancing machine. Reinstall the tire and rim assembly onto the vehicle. Torque the wheel retaining nuts to the vehicle manufacturer's specifications. Your vehicle's tires are the only connection between your vehicle and the road. Safe vehicle operation depends on your tires being in good condition. If your tires are neglected, the tread can wear completely away, leaving the tire bald and often exposing the steel cords. Not only is this condition dangerous, it is also unlawful in many states. Tires with an abnormal tread wear pattern can cause the vehicle to shimmy and vibrate, and can adversely affect the manner in which your vehicle performs. A tire with an abnormal tread wear pattern will no longer contact the road the way that it was designed to, and this condition can be dangerous, especially during adverse road conditions. New wiper blades AI-31 Signs of irregular tire wear New tire 7

Replacing worn tires is part of vehicle maintenance that is necessary to ensure that your driving experience is as safe as possible. Besides the obvious safety benefits, tires that are in good condition and properly inflated to the correct air pressure can increase the overall fuel economy and help provide a comfortable ride. Ball joint replacement Remove the wheel and then the ball joint. Install the new ball joint. Grease the new ball joint. Reinstall the wheel and torque the lug nuts. Perform a complete wheel alignment. Take the vehicle for a test drive. Ball joints are very important parts of the front suspension. They allow movement of the suspension to occur when driving over bumps, and while turning. They also keep your vehicle going straight down the highway. A worn ball joint can cause your tires to wearout prematurely. It can also cause your vehicle to wander or pull to one side as you drive. If a worn ball joint is not replaced in a timely manner, your vehicle can become unsafe to drive. If a worn-out ball joint breaks while you are driving, you may not be able to control or steer your vehicle, and run the risk of getting in an accident, or doing additional damage to your vehicle. AI-33 Worn out ball joint and tie-rod end Even with slightly worn ball joints, you will wear out your tires prematurely. Safety is number one when it comes to you and your family. A vehicle with worn out suspension components, such as ball joints can be unsafe to drive. Maintaining your front suspension helps keep your vehicle safe and reliable. Check engine light on One of our skilled technicians will connect a specialized scan tool to the vehicle. This scan tool will read any powertrain or tranmission diagnostic trouble codes stored in the vehicle's memory. Using these trouble codes, the technician can troubleshoot the cause of the trouble codes and then make the necessary repairs. When the repair is completed, the the powertrain or transmission controller is cleared of all stored codes, and then the vehicle is driven under the correct conditions to verify the problem has been repaired. When a vehicle's Check Engine light is on, this indicates that a significant problem with the emission control system has been detected by one or more of the vehicle controllers. In many states, your vehicle will fail the emissions inspection if the Check Engine light is on. The Check Engine light is your vehicle's way of telling you that it has detected a problem that is affecting the level of emissions released from your vehicle. If problems associated with the Check Engine light are not diagnosed and repaired in a timely fashion, expensive repairs may result. You may also run the risk of your car not starting, or stalling under various conditions. New ball joint and tierod end AI-36 Check Engine light on Scanning vehicle for trouble codes 8

When your Check Engine light is on, it indicates a problem that needs to be addressed immediately. Repairing the problem right away can ensure that your vehicle continues to be reliable, and can help to avoid costly repairs in the future. Differential fluid change - rear Drain the rear differential fluid according to the vehicle manufacturer's service procedure. Refill the differential housing using the correct type and amount of differential fluid or gear oil. The rear differential contains components known as spider gears that allow the wheels to rotate at different speeds when turning. It also has a ring and pinion gear, which convert torque from the engine through the transmission and driveline into right angle torque. This is what enables the wheels to be driven by the engine. All of the gears and bearings in the differential are submersed in differential oil to protect and lubricate them. Differentials create heat under normal driving conditions, which can eventually break down the fluid, causing its lubrication properties to deteriorate. This condition can lead to total differential failure and an expensive repair bill. AI-43 Draining rear differential fluid Proper service of your rear differential fluid will make sure that the gears and bearings inside have the lubrication they require. With regular service, your differential can last the life of your vehicle. Changing the differential fluid as part of a scheduled maintenance program, will enhance the reliability of your vehicle, and save you money during the life of your vehicle. Refilling with new fluid 9

Lower control arm replacement Lift the vehicle using an approved automotive lift. Remove the lower control arm. Install a new lower control arm, restoring the vehicle's original handling capabilities. Test drive the vehicle to verify the repair. The components that make up your suspension are very important to the performance of your vehicle. They allow movement of the suspension to occur when driving over bumps and turning. They also keep your vehicle going straight down the highway. Damaged or degraded suspension components can cause your tires to wear out prematurely. They can also cause your vehicle to wander or pull to one side as you drive. If a worn suspension component is not replaced in a timely manner, your vehicle can become unsafe to drive. If a worn-out suspension or steering component breaks when driving down the road, you may not be able to control or steer your vehicle, and thereby run the risk of getting in an accident and doing additional damage to your vehicle. AI-61 Worn lower control arm Even slightly worn suspension components will cause your tires to wear out prematurely. Safety is number one when it comes to you and your family. A vehicle with worn control arm bushings can be unsafe to drive. Maintaining your front and rear suspension helps keep your vehicle safe and reliable. MacPherson strut replacement Note: MacPherson Struts should always be replaced in pairs. Lift the vehicle. Remove the wheels. Remove the strut and spring assembly from the vehicle. Using a strut spring compressor, carefully compress the coil spring and disassemble the strut assembly. Remove the strut cap and bearing, and inspect them for damage or wear. If the bearing or cap is damaged or worn, it must be replaced. Remove the strut insert from the strut assembly. Install the new strut insert. Reinstall the coil spring and cap and bearing. Carefully decompress the coil spring. Install the strut and spring assembly back onto the vehicle. Reinstall the wheel and torque the lug nuts to the correct torque specification. Perform a complete wheel alignment. When struts wear out, your vehicle will bounce too much when going over bumps. It will also sway excessively while moving through a turn. Worn out struts can lead to serious handling problems with your vehicle, and this presents a safety issue. Your vehicle may even handle in an unpredictable manner. Worn out struts can also cause your tires to wear unevenly, greatly reducing the life of your tires. You should replace your struts before they get to this point. The MacPherson strut is widely used in modern vehicles. It combines a shock absorber and a coil spring into a single unit, which provides a more compact and lighter suspension system great for front-wheel drive vehicles. Good struts will help you stay safe, ride comfortably, and prevent your tires from wearing out quickly. Lower control arm AI-72 Worn out MacPherson struts MacPherson struts 10

Brake pad/shoe replacement Remove the wheels. For disc brakes, remove the brake caliper and then remove the brake pads. Inspect the rotors for signs of damage or excessive wear. Replace or resurface the rotor as necessary. Inspect the brake caliper and brake hoses for damage and leaks. Replace the brake pads. For drum brakes, remove the brake drum. Remove the brake shoes. Inspect the brake hardware, wheel cylinders and hoses for damage. Inspect the brake drum for damage, or excessive wear. Replace or resurface the drum as necessary. Clean the brake drum and backing plate. Replace the brake shoes. Reinstall the brake drum. Adjust the brakes as necessary. Reinstall the wheels and torque the lug nuts to the vehicle manufacturer's specifications. This repair is all about safety. Your vehicle's brake system is only as good as your brake pads and/or brake shoes. The safety of you and your family depends on your brake system working properly and stopping your vehicle - every time. Aside from the obvious safety issues, neglecting the maintenance of your brake pads and shoes can cause the friction material on your brake pads and shoes to completely wear out. This can cause the steel backing on your brake pads or shoes to contact the rotors or drums and will destroy the rotors or drums, leaving you with an expensive repair bill. AI-77 Damaged brake rotor from metal-to-metal contact New brake pads There are no shortcuts when it comes to your vehicle's brakes. Having a professional automotive technician check and service brakes on a regular basis is essential to your safety behind the wheel. Maintaining your brake system by replacing your brake pads and shoes before they are completely worn out will help keep your brakes working properly and save you money by avoiding unexpected damage to your brake components caused by metal to metal contact. Wheel bearing replacement Raise the vehicle on a professional automotive lift. Remove the rim and tire assembly from the vehicle. Remove the wheel bearings according to the vehicle manufacturer's repair instructions. Remove the damaged wheel bearing. Pack the wheel bearing with a high quality wheel bearing grease recommended by the vehicle manufacturer. Reinstall the wheel bearing, replacing the wheel seal as necessary. Adjust the wheel bearing holddown nut according the vehicle manufacturer's specifications. Reinstall the wheel and torque the lug nuts using a torque wrench to the factory specification. Note that some new vehicles come with a sealed bearing and hub assembly that does not allow for grease to be added. In these cases, the assembly must be replaced if wear is present. AI-81 Wheel bearing failure New wheel bearing 11

The vehicle's wheel bearings allow the wheels to rotate with low resistance and friction. Modern wheel bearings are usually tapered roller bearings that are matched to a precision-machined race. High quality wheel bearing grease is used so that the grease can stand up to the high temperatures generated from today's aggressive disk brake systems. Some wheel bearings are serviceable and can be repacked with grease, while others are non-serviceable, or sealed units. A worn out wheel bearing will usually make a lot of resonating noise that will transfer to the interior of the vehicle. If a worn out wheel bearing is neglected, it can seize up, causing your vehicle to lose control, or be unable to move. When this happens, it is likely that the seized bearing has caused irreparable damage to the spindle or hub, resulting in an expensive repair bill, and a lot of vehicle down time. New wheel bearing Replacing a worn out wheel bearing is an essential repair to ensure that your vehicle is safe to drive. Aside from the safety issues, a neglected wheel bearing can damage other components of your drivetrain, resulting in expensive repairs. Brake rotor resurfacing - front Removing the wheels is the first step in resurfacing the rotors. The rotors are then placed on a machining tool and a thin layer of material is removed to provide a smooth, flat surface for your brake pads to come in contact with. The milling process is performed in a brake lathe, which removes a very thin layer off the disc surface to clean off minor damage and restore uniform thickness. Milling the disc as necessary will maximize the mileage out of the current discs on the vehicle. Front brake pads provide up to 70% of vehicle stopping power. In general, front brake pads wear out twice as fast as rear brake pads. Neglecting the maintenance of your brakes can cause the friction material on your brake pads and shoes to completely wear out. This can cause the steel backing plates of your brake pads or shoes to contact the rotors or drums, destroying the drums or rotors and leaving you with an expensive repair bill. AI-189 Worn or damaged rotors needing resurfacing If you are installing new brake pads, the rotors should always be resurfaced or replaced at the same time. The brake rotor wears to fit the old pads, and the surface is no longer perfectly flat as a result (although the variations may not be visible). As a result, if new pads are installed on a worn rotor surface they will contact only the high spots, shortening pad life. In extreme cases there can be enough difference in contact area between one rotor and the other to cause noticeable pulling during braking. Resurfacing rotors on a brake lathe 12

Hood strut replacement The hydraulic hood struts hold your vehicle's hood up, making it much easier to check anything under the hood. When the hood struts fail, you have to prop the hood up somehow or hold it open with one of your hands, increasing the likelihood of personal injury. Replacing your worn hood struts with new genuine factory replacement struts decreases your frustration when performing simple tasks like checking your oil. It also increases your level of safety when performing underhood inspections.
