4 88 Years of Experience with Chemical Solutions In 1924, Mr. I. D. Blumenthal was a traveling salesman and in need of repair to his car s radiator where a local tinsmith in Charlotte, North Carolina repaired the leaking radiator with a magic powder. Impressed with the product, I. D. teamed with this tinsmith and SOLDER SEAL became the first product of Radiator Specialty Company. Later in 1938, I. D. s brother Herman joined the company to make it a family run business. When I. D. passed away, Herman became Chairman of the Board and likewise, later Herman s eldest son, Alan assumed responsibility. Radiator Specialty Company of Canada was then chartered in In 1933 the Golden State Rubber Mills Company in Los Angeles, California was acquired and in 1937 a Charlotte rubber products plant was added and TiteSeal Sealing Compound products were created. Continued growth was realized in 1941 when Radiator Specialty Company expanded its plumbing and hardware product lines and acquired the brand, LIQUID WRENCH. During World War II, Radiator Specialty Company s California rubber plant company was producing parts used in most American built aircrafts and following the war in 1949, rubber production then moved to the Charlotte rubber plant. New chemicals and plumbing/ hardware products, including highway SAFE-T-CONE were also being developed at a rapid pace in Charlotte. Expansion of hardware product lines continued and in 1958 the Douglas Tools line of augers, hole saws, hammers, levels, and measuring devices were added. In 1959, GUNK LABORATORIES in Chicago was acquired and this product line included degreasers and ENGINE BRITE cleaning products. In 1964, Radiator Specialty Company constructed a new office building in uptown Charlotte and in 1972 a 60,000 square foot production plant was built in Indian Trail, North Carolina to accommodate rapidly growing sales of aerosol products. Expansion to the Indian Trail plant was again necessary in 1979 with the acquisition of CRP hose. Further expansions continued and today the Indian Trail facility occupies over 400,000 square feet of state of art production and warehouse facilities, a research and development laboratory and related office operations. In 1985, a design patent was secured on highway safety plastic drums used to safely channel traffic in road construction sites. This opened additional opportunities with the United States Department of Transportation where, standard and custom reflective signs were produced including Interstate highway signs. The Truck and Heavy Duty Division of Radiator Specialty Company was then established in 1988 and in 1995, Highway Safety Products in Napa, California was acquired to manufacture traffic cones for the West Coast. Acquisitions for Radiator Specialty Company continued in 1999 with the purchase of Omega Products, in Bremen, Indiana. Omega assembles appliance hoses and is also a major supplier of hoses and sub-assemblies to the Home Appliance Manufacturing Industry. Radiator Specialty Company rebranded in 2010 as RSC Chemical Solutions and continues to thrive and serve the automotive, industrial, hardware and appliance industries with quality products that make things work better.
