2 1. Technical description The field of application for the E-Nozzle is primarily LSR (Liquid Silicon Rubber). Additional applications are the thermoplastic Elastomers. Silicone is a special material from this group of Elastomers. A special property of this material group is that the mechanical characteristics are constant over a wide temperature range. There are multiple fields of LSR applications; focusing on seals, medical parts, electronics and many others. In today s processing we have the possibility of acquiring materials in a stage where they may be used in connection with high vulcanization velocities, this makes it possible to use such material in the injection molding process. Cycle times are in part very short, because cross-linking is done very quickly. Cross-linking is dependant on both the mold temperature as well as on the wall thickness of the parts. The plasticizing unit, including the shut-off nozzle, is very much responsible for the quality of the molded parts. Different to conventional thermoplastic processing, the processing of LSR requires liquid tempered plasticizing units. The temperature range is within 20 to 40 C. The low viscosity of LSR requires high precision on the different parts involved, which are in turn responsible for the quality of the plastic parts produced. The herzog E-Nozzle shows a very compact design. A 2-way pneumatic cylinder controls the shut-off mechanism- while the integrated cooling system, which goes up to the nozzle tip, ensures functional and reliable processing. The materials chosen in the production of the E-Nozzle are highly corrosion resistant. What can you expect from a Herzog E-Nozzle? 3 2. Working principal Legend Flow channel Shut-off mechanism Cooling cycle The flow channel (E1: 4 channels) is running trough the optimized flow channels around the shut-off nozzle. A 2-way operating pneumatic actuator shuts the nozzle. The needle is closing fast and accurate at the nozzle tip. The tempering cycle is conducted up to the tip. 3

6 5. Installation Instructions A) Mounting Follow the instructions according to the graphics on the left. The nozzle arrives preassembled. Please inspect and grease the adapter before installation. Refer also to the machine handbook before installation. Tip / needle removal, see page 7 Max. working conditions: 2500bar at 110 C 1. Inspect the threads and surfaces 2. Grease adapter thread with silicon paste or encapsulate with teflon band 3. After servicing tighten tip fully in cap. 1. If required make sure that the nozzle and cylinder have matching temperautres. 2. Tighten the adapter to the torque specified by the machine manufacturer. When servicing fix/remove crosswise in 4 steps: Stabilize / 7Nm / 10Nm / 12 Nm C) Nozzle Tips Due to variation in tips, slight differences may be expected in the removal and service of the tip. Installation remains unchaged. may fluctuate up to 2 mm 1. The connection ring can be manouvered into position by hand. Do not adjust the connection using tools of any kind. 2. Connect the tempering system and pneumatic supply to the nozzle according to the indications on the nozzle. Axial adjustment tip: Tip which allows a certain flexibility in the mold-plate. 7 6. Nozzle Design /Service Assemble the nozzle according to the numerical order. (Not equivalent to position numbers on drawings). Never heat steel parts above 200 o C We offer our customers a cleaning service. The nozzle will be disassembled, inspected and a recommendation would be given for the parts which are in need of replacement.
