2 Cautions, Warnings, and Regulatory Information Cautions and Warnings READ AND SAVE THESE INSTRUCTIONS- Follow the instructions in this installation manual. These instructions must be followed to avoid damage to this product and associated equipment. Product operation and reliability depend upon proper installation. DO NOT INSTALL ANY SIMPLEX PRODUCT THAT APPEARS DAMAGED- Upon unpacking your Simplex product, inspect the contents of the carton for shipping damage. If damage is apparent, immediately file a claim with the carrier and notify an authorized Simplex product supplier. ELECTRICAL HAZARD - Disconnect electrical field power when making any internal adjustments or repairs. All repairs should be performed by a representative or authorized agent of your local Simplex product supplier. EYE SAFETY HAZARD - Under certain fiber optic application conditions, the optical output of this device may exceed eye safety limits. Do not use magnification (such as a microscope or other focusing equipment) when viewing the output of this device. STATIC HAZARD - Static electricity can damage components. Handle as follows: Ground yourself before opening or installing components. Prior to installation, keep components wrapped in anti-static material at all times. FCC RULES AND REGULATIONS PART 15 - This equipment has been tested and found to comply with the limits for a Class A digital device pursuant to Part 15 of the FCC Rules. These limits are designed to provide reasonable protection against harmful interference when the equipment is operated in a commercial environment. This equipment generates, uses, and can radiate radio frequency energy and, if not installed and used in accordance with the instruction manual, may cause harmful interference to radio communications. Operation of this equipment in a residential area is likely to cause harmful interference in which case the user will be required to correct the interference at his own expense. SYSTEM REACCEPTANCE TEST AFTER SOFTWARE CHANGES - To ensure proper system operation, this product must be tested in accordance with NFPA 72 after any programming operation or change in site-specific software. Reacceptance testing is required after any change, addition or deletion of system components, or after any modification, repair or adjustment to system hardware or wiring. All components, circuits, system operations, or software functions known to be affected by a change must be 100% tested. In addition, to ensure that other operations are not inadvertently affected, at least 10% of initiating devices that are not directly affected by the change, up to a maximum of 50 devices, must also be tested and proper system operation verified. NFPA 72 is a registered trademark of the National Fire Protection Association. 2

3 Introduction to the Expansion Signal Card Overview The Expansion Signal (XSIG) Card provides three additional NACs for use with either an Amplifier Audio NAC or a power supply card (SPS, RPS, and XPS). When an XSIG Card is added for audio NAC expansion, the card is programmed for operation with the specific amplifier that it is expanding. Each XSIG card must be dedicated to provide either all Audio or all DC notification; these operations cannot be mixed. Functions of the XSIG Card 1. Provides three 1.5 A Class B NACs for Audio or DC notification. 2. Switches between two power audio input sources (for example, Flex-35/Flex-50-style dual-channel power stage switching). 3. Accepts Class A Adapter and Class B Expander for a total of six Class B NACs or three Class A NACs per card that can be used with audio or DC signaling. 4. Accepts constant supervision audio NAC module for a total of three Constant Supervision NACs per card for use with audio signaling only. 5. When configured for use with non-alarm audio, quickly and automatically switches to an audio source when a signal is detected at either input. 6. Supports earth fault isolation in conjunction with the source NAC supplying the card input. The XSIG Card also supports the WALKTEST system test as long as the following programming guidelines are followed: Custom Control must be written to turn on the NACs when the WALKTEST Group Active pseudo turns ON. Lists can be created for the NACs to allow you to have them turn ON when different groups are activated. However, a Custom Control equation would be required for each WALKTEST group. Optional Equipment Optional equipment to accompany the XSIG card consists of the following: Expansion Signal (XSIG) Card XNAC (increases the quantity of Class B NACs from three to six) Expansion Signal (XSIG) Card Class A Adapter (upgrades the three oncard NACs to Class A) Expansion Signal (XSIG) Constant Supervision NAC (replaces the on-card NACs with 3 Class A/B Constant Supervision NACs 3

6 Installing the Expansion Signal Card onto the PDI Overview The Expansion Signal (XSIG) card mounts on the Power Distribution Interface (PDI). The module can be mounted on any of the PDI connectors. Use connector P4, labeled on the backside of the given card, to connect to any of the eight PDI connectors as shown in Figure 2 below. Note: Figure 2 is a general-purpose illustration that applies to most 4-inch (102 mm) X 5-inch (127 mm) cards. WASHERS STANDOFFS XSIG CARD #6 SCREWS PDI CONNECTOR (reverse side) PDI Figure 2. 7 Card Configuration Overview This section contains instructions on configuring the XSIG card via jumpers and DIP switches. Setting the Jumpers (P3 & P4) These jumpers are used to connect an end-of-line resistor to the inputs when the card is installed as the last in the line of XSIG cards. The default position is OUT (Positions 1-2). P3 Input 1: Position 2-3 (IN) when last in line of XSIG cards; otherwise, Position 1-2 (OUT). P4 Input 2: Position 2-3 (IN) when last in line of XSIG cards; otherwise, Position 1-2 (OUT). Setting the Device Address and Baud Rate (SW1) Switch SW1 on the XSIG card is an eight-position DIP switch. From left to right (see Figure 3 below) these switches are designated as SW1-1 through SW1-8. The function of these switches is as follows: SW1-1. This switch sets the baud rate for the internal 4100 communications line running between the card and the 4100 CPU. Set this switch to ON. SW1-2 through SW1-8. These switches set the card s address within the 4100 FACP. Refer to Table 3 for a complete list of the switch settings for all of the possible card addresses. Note: You must set these switches to the value assigned to the card by the Programmer Comm. Baud Rate. Switch (SW1-1) Must Be Set to ON DIP Switches SW1-2 through SW1-8 set the Card Address. Figure 3 shows an Address of 3. ON OFF Figure 3. DIP Switch SW1 7
