17 Performance/Handling 2016 Gasoline Engine cont d MAKE THE POINT: Flex-fuel (E85) Capability The 6.2L V8 offers flex-fuel (E85) capability. This allows the engine to operate on E85 fuel a blend of 85% ethanol fuel and 15% unleaded gasoline. The 6.2L V8 can run on E85 fuel, regular unleaded gasoline or any combination of the two in the same fuel tank. It s important to note that while operating on E85, the 6.2L V8 will also deliver measurably less fuel economy. This is normal. Since E85 has less energy as a fuel, it takes more E85 to make the same power as unleaded gasoline. Why It s Important The primary benefits of E85 fuel are that it s made from renewable resources to help lower our dependence on imported oil and lower greenhouse gas emissions. 19 Performance/Handling 2016 Diesel Engine cont d MAKE THE POINT: Power Stroke Turbocharging Basics Turbocharger A turbocharger (or turbo for short) uses the engine s exhaust gases to spin a turbine, which in turn drives a compressor to force more air into the engine. Increasing the airflow allows more power to be generated. A turbo consumes very little power under light loads or easy engine use and allows smaller engines to generate the power of a larger displacement. When extra power is needed, the turbo spins into action. Turbo Lag This is the time it takes for the turbocharger to spin after the driver steps on the accelerator. This delay can be caused by the turbo having to wait for the exhaust gas to spin the turbine and drive the compressor. Another factor in lag is the size of the turbo. Bigger turbos make more power, but take longer to respond. In the past, the typical solution was to use two smaller turbos for faster response. However, this approach added the cost and complexity of two turbos, and generated twice the heat. The Innovative Power Stroke Approach The 6.7L Power Stroke uses a large turbocharger that accommodates a high airflow to produce substantial power and enhance high-altitude performance. The Power Stroke Benefit The turbocharger allows the system to have a response time similar to a twin-turbo package, while reducing cost, weight, complexity and underhood heat. Engine Idle Shutdown (63T) Engine Idle Shutdown is optional on the 6.7L Power Stroke diesel engine but is not required since the 6.7L engine meets all California State emissions requirements. 20 2016 Performance/Handling Diesel Engine cont d Organic Acid Technology (OAT) Engine Coolant The most obvious trait of the engine coolant is the orange color There are key maintenance items the customer should be made aware of: OAT engine coolant should be replaced at 105,000 miles, under normal operating conditions Antifreeze and anti-corrosion protection of the coolant should be tested and the hoses should be inspected every 15,000 miles Mixing any other traditional engine coolants will greatly reduce the operating characteristics of the OAT engine coolant or may cause engine damage which could jeopardize provisions of the engine warranty Overview The combustion system is the heart of the 6.7L Power Stroke diesel engine and reflects how Ford engineers achieved a balance of power, fuel efficiency and reduced emissions To help reduce NOx levels, the Power Stroke burns cleaner in large part because of the design of the Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) system In addition, there is a three-step aftertreatment system utilizing a diesel oxidation catalyst (DOC), selective catalytic reduction (SCR) using diesel exhaust fluid (DEF) and diesel particulate filter (DPF) as the key components This system works in harmony to reduce the NOx levels within the latest federal standards making the 6.7L Power Stroke the cleanest Ford Power Stroke diesel engine ever Power Stroke Emissions Strategy Allows the engine to operate with a leaner fuel mixture than previous Power Stroke engines A leaner fuel mixture has less fuel and more air Leaner burning engines produce less particulate emissions Less particulate emissions result in less frequent DPF regeneration Less frequent regeneration helps improve overall engine fuel efficiency Diesel Engine Emissions Intelligent Oil-Life Monitor 6.7L Power Stroke diesel engine-equipped vehicles incorporate an advanced Intelligent Oil-Life Monitor that calculates engine oil service intervals based on vehicle use as well as a number of other vehicle operating parameters As an oil service interval nears, the instrument panel message center will display an ENGINE OIL CHANGE SOON warning When an oil service is required, the instrument panel message center will display OIL CHANGE REQUIRED Refer customers to the Super Duty Diesel Engine Supplement for more information Failure to perform scheduled maintenance as specified in the Scheduled Maintenance Guide may invalidate warranty coverage on parts affected by the lack of maintenance Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) Recycles combustion gases in the exhaust system as the first defense against NOx A two-step cooling process allows the EGR to recycle exhaust gases into the intake at a much lower temperature A cooler temperature means a higher efficiency in recycling the exhaust gases and less oxygen in the mix Less oxygen helps reduce the formation of NOx in the exhaust Diesel Oxidation Catalyst (DOC) The first step in the exhaust aftertreatment process and could be referred to as the cleaning and heating step Converts and oxidizes hydrocarbons into water and carbon dioxide Provides and promotes heat into the exhaust system to help increase the conversion efficiency 20

21 Performance/Handling 2016 Diesel Engine Emissions cont d Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) The second step in the exhaust aftertreatment process, primarily where NOx is removed from the exhaust stream Located between the DOC and the DPF in the exhaust system Uses a liquid chemical reactant, diesel exhaust fluid (DEF) DEF dosing module sprays a fine mist of DEF into the exhaust stream to react with the NOx in the exhaust as it passes through the SCR catalyst When heated, DEF splits into ammonia and carbon dioxide These molecules are atomized and vaporized and evenly distributed into the exhaust flow Once the DEF solution is combined with the exhaust flow, chemical reactions convert the ammonia and NOx into water and harmless nitrogen Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF) A solution comprised of 32.5% high-purity urea and 67.5% demineralized water The urea in the solution breaks down into ammonia when injected into the exhaust stream DEF is clear, nontoxic and safe to handle Stored in a 5-gallon reservoir tank located near the fuel tank DEF tank, supply module and supply line are heated to help prevent the freezing of DEF and keep it in a liquid state DEF tank includes temperature and fluid level sensors DEF tank fill is located next to the diesel fuel filler DEF is widely available in 1- and 2.5-gallon bottles ENGINEERING INSIGHT Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF) Storage of DEF DEF is over 60% water, which means the fluid is temperature sensitive DEF has a freezing point of 12 degrees F (-11 degrees C) and should not be stored at or below this temperature Storing DEF at temperatures higher than 86 degrees F (30 degrees C) can reduce shelf life The urea in DEF starts to decompose (breaks down) into ammonia at temperatures above 122 degrees F (50 degrees C), so care should be taken using DEF in hot environments Operational Characteristics of DEF DEF expands when it freezes; however, DEF tanks and packaging are designed to allow for expansion of the fluid The SCR system allows the vehicle to start without urea flowing (DEF frozen) After the vehicle is started, the heated reservoir, supply module and supply line will cause the fluid to thaw and resume flow through the system DEF Maintenance DEF must be replenished in order to maintain operation of the vehicle Failure to refill the DEF tank will result in reduced engine speeds as the tank approaches empty and eventually forced engine idle when the tank is depleted The system includes a number of audible warnings and cluster messages beginning at approximately 500 miles before the tank is empty to notify the driver of the current DEF tank status Frequency of DEF refill will vary depending on a wide range of duty cycle and operating conditions Motorcraft DEF is widely available in 1- and 2.5-gallon bottles for consumer use Ford recommends using only API-certified DEF NOTE: Recommend to your customer that they review the Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) System section of the Super Duty Diesel Engine Supplement for additional DEF maintenance information. 21

22 2016 Performance/Handling Diesel Engine Emissions cont d Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) The last step in the exhaust aftertreatment process and designed to scrub any remaining soot from the exhaust Soot can be described as the black smoke seen in diesel exhaust Located in the exhaust system, after the SCR Periodically cleans itself through a process known as regeneration, which is similar to a small incinerator burning off trapped particulates Passive regeneration naturally burns off soot when exhaust temperatures are high enough Active regeneration (forced burn-off) occurs as needed, depending on operational use NOTE: For more specific information about the regeneration process, please refer to the Maintenance and Specifications section of the Super Duty Diesel Engine Supplement. Operator Commanded Regeneration (OCR) (98R) OCR allows customer to start a manual diesel particulate filter (DPF) regeneration with the vehicle at idle OCR is a very specialized option requiring the customer have full knowledge of proper use and actuation it s highly recommended the dealer and the customer review the most recent Super Duty Diesel Supplement for more information OCR is not recommended for general customer use, includes a $250 MSRP and is intended for unique applications where the vehicle is rarely, if at all, driven above mph and/or experiences extended idle periods Vocations where the above can occur are oil refining, underground mining, line repair and tree trimming Customers within these vocations may find it beneficial to have the option of a manual DPF regeneration during a work cycle Diesel Engine Maintenance Ultra Low Sulfur Diesel (ULSD) Fuel ULSD fuel MUST be used in the 6.7L Power Stroke diesel engine to allow the emissions control system, including the diesel particulate filter (DPF), to operate properly ULSD fuel may be used in pre-2007 diesel engines Sulfur level reduced by 97% compared to conventional diesel from a maximum of 500 parts per million (ppm) to 15 ppm Diesel Engine Oil Requirement Oil that meets American Petroleum Institute (API) service category CJ-4/CJ-4SM is required for the 6.7L Power Stroke diesel engine to operate properly CJ-4/CJ-4SM service standard oil must be used to keep the engine warranty in effect CJ-4/CJ-4SM oil may be used in pre-2007 engines Maintenance It is recommended using biodiesel fuel that is no greater than 20% (B20) to ensure excellent fuel economy. Customers should follow the Special Service maintenance schedule if using ASTM D7467 grade S15 biodiesel fuel The fuel-water separator should be drained monthly to avoid possible water in the fuel injectors Engine block heater should be used at temperatures below -10 degrees F (-23 degrees C) to ensure proper engine lubrication on start-up CJ-4/CJ-4SM service standard oil must be used when the engine oil is serviced Vehicles equipped with the 6.7L Power Stroke V8 turbo diesel engine come equipped with an Intelligent Oil-Life Monitor in the instrument cluster message center that calculates the proper engine oil change service interval based on vehicle use. MAKE THE POINT: Trailer Tow Packages Roughly 95% of your Super Duty customers use their trucks for towing regularly, and the Trailer Tow Package is a great selling point. Be sure that your customers understand the towing capabilities of their vehicle and warn them against overloading. Explain that dual rear wheel (DRW) vehicles are designed for greater towing stability, not necessarily for increased capacity. DRW models are especially useful for customers who want to tow a 5th-wheel trailer. 57

Electric-Over-Hydraulic trailer brakes, more commonly known as EOH, differ from the more common electric trailer brakes EOH brakes are operated by an electrically powered pump that pressurizes a hydraulic fluid reservoir The fluid reservoir pressurizes either a wheel cylinder (drum brakes) or a caliper (disc brakes) in much the same way a vehicle master cylinder applies pressure to the braking system What You Should Know EOH trailer brakes are more expensive than electric trailer brakes, but offer desirable benefits to certain customers, including: Smoother operation More responsive/predictable braking Compatible with operation in wet environments (such as boat trailers) The factory-installed trailer brake controller (TBC) is already compatible with certain EOH systems in the trailer marketplace (see chart) EOH trailer brakes are becoming more common in the trailer marketplace, so be sure to determine if the customer uses an EOH-equipped trailer since the Ford TBC would be a strong sales advantage 58

Failure to follow these recommendations can adversely affect the braking, steering and handling characteristics of the tow vehicle. 5th-Wheel/Gooseneck Hitches Four-Wheel-Down /Neutral Towing Some customers may want to know if it is possible to tow their Super Duty Pickup with all four wheels on the ground. There are various terms for this capability, the most common of which is Neutral towing, also known as four-wheel-down or flat towing The only that can be Neutral towed are those equipped with a manual 4x4 transfer case (1) For specific towing methods or restrictions, be sure to consult the RV & Trailer Towing Guide or the vehicle owner manual Care must also be taken to maintain nominal clearance from the back of the cab to the front of the trailer during tight cornering or backing maneuvers. Shorter pickup boxes, such as the 6.75' box, provide less clearance between the cab and the 5th-wheel or gooseneck trailer compared to an 8' box. When selecting a vehicle to tow a specific trailer, it s critical that the combination provide adequate clearance between the cab and trailer for turns up to and including 90 degrees. Failure to follow this recommendation could result in the trailer contacting the tow vehicle cab, possibly making contact resulting in damage to the tow vehicle, the trailer or both. (1) Only with manual shift transfer case vehicles, not electronic shift-on-the-fly or 4x2 vehicles.
