1 2017 Hunter Survey Results The Ministry of Environment would like to extend a thank you to all the hunters who participated in the 2017 Hunter Survey. The information you provide is an important part of wildlife management in Saskatchewan and each survey contributes to a better understanding of how game populations are responding to current management strategies. The more surveys that are completed, the more certain we can be of outcomes in each management zone. Please complete your Hunter Surveys even if you were unable to hunt or did not harvest an animal. Over 28,400 surveys were completed in 2017, which was an increase of over 5,000 surveys from last year. While response rates for 2017 varied depending on species and licence type, the average for all licence types combined was 26 per cent (or 30 per cent if only those who received notifications are considered). The ministry encourages all hunters to ensure their HAL profile contains their most current address so that reminder messages are delivered. After completing your surveys, reminder messages are suspended. Below are the results of the 2017 Hunter Survey, separated by licence type. We estimate harvest for all hunters based on the survey responses we receive. The potential range of estimated harvest values is indicated in the tables by the lower and upper bounds. This range of uncertainty increases when there is a lower response rate. The more survey responses we receive, the more confident we can be in our harvest estimates. Note that estimated total harvest accounts for the proportion of respondents that indicated they purchased a licence but did not hunt and that estimated harvest totals for big game may not equal the sum of males, females and young due to rounding. For more information about the annual Hunter Survey, please contact the Ministry of Environment at Centre.Inquiry@gov.sk.ca or by calling the Client Service Office toll free at

The hunter harvest survey was restricted to the first antlerless mule deer licence, but reporting included all mule deer harvested on both licences. Therefore, harvest success can be greater than 100% if hunters harvested more than one animal in that zone. Additionally, lower and upper bound of estimated harvest are not included due to the unique assumptions required to calculate it for this particular survey.
