1 orsional LM Series Overview LM Series he LM Series torsional couplings are designed specifically for diesel engine driven equipment. he LM couplings are highly torsionally compliant, allowing the engine to drive a relatively small inertia load safely from damaging torsional resonance over a wide speed range from low idle PM to full engine speed. his task is accomplished by shifting the critical speeds far enough below the idle speed allowing full use of the entire working speed range of the engine with very few limitations. hese engineered couplings affect an attenuated level of stress throughout the whole drive train by reducing vibratory torque to a very low level. he coupling selection should be verified with a orsional Vibration Analysis of the system. Materials Elastomeric Element emperature-resistant natural rubber available in a variety of Shore A scale hardness to suite individual application requirements -49 to 2 F operating temperature range Silicone element available for high ambient temperatures EPM available for chemical resistant -49 to 25 F operating temperature range Outer ing High-grade cast aluminum alloy Inner Hub Steel with minimum tensile strength of 85, psi (6 N/mm²) Available in bore with keyway and spline connections aper-loc spline hubs available Splines with L-LOC available ypical Applications Splitter-gear multiple pump drives enerator sets (2-bearing) Locomotives Hydraulic pumps Centrifugal pumps Compressors ange of Sizes 8 sizes ranging from nominal torques of 2,2 to 33,6 in-lb (25 to 38 Nm) SAE J62 Flywheel sizes available from 6 through 8 3 coupling design types
2 LM orsional Coupling esign ypes ype SB Sizes 24 to 24 he driven inner hub consists of two pieces: the vulcanized steel ring and the inner tapered hub. hese two parts are bolted together and the torque is transmitted by the friction force created by the axial bolts, drawing the tapered hub into the mating taper in the element. orsional LM Series ypes SB, SC, SBE and SCE Selection ata his is a long tapered fit, but can easily disassembled if the coupling has to be removed. he vulcanized steel ring creates a very high inward pressure acting on the inner driven tapered hub. o utilize this pressure, the driven hub is slotted in an axial direction. his compresses the driven hub and driven shaft. his clamping effect can be used equally well on cylindrical shafts with keys or splined shafts. ype SB apered Locking Hubs ype SC Sizes 28 to 35 An inner ring made of spheroidal cast iron is vulcanized into the elastomeric element. his flange is bolted to the inner tapered hub. epending upon the arrangement of the elastomeric element, two different lengths are possible utilizing the same components. Standard Configuration: eversed Element: (extended mounting length) SCA SCB ype SCA ype SCB ypes SBE and SCE Special adial Assembly / isassembly ypes (rop-out ypes) All Sizes he elastomeric element can be changed quickly and easily without disturbing the coupling shaft, provided the flywheel housing does not protrude too much. hese versions can be particularly advantageous on larger sizes, especially if the hub is interference fit. ype SBE ype SCE Special ypes In addition to the standard types shown here, many special types have been developed.
