1 Pedestrians Road Safety Overview According to the World Health Organization, the World Bank, the FIA Foundation for the Automobile and Society and the Global Road Safety Partnership collaborative report on road traffic injury prevention 2013, pedestrians globally constitute 22% of all road traffic fatalities, and in some countries this proportion is as high as two thirds of all road traffic deaths 1. In the Republic of Ireland, pedestrians make up 20% (745 deaths) of all road traffic fatalities over the period Additional 1,566 pedestrians were seriously injured in the same period. Most pedestrian deaths occurred when pedestrians were crossing the road (32%).
