2 The Company Air Handlers has been trading since May 1989, and has just celebrated 25 years in business in The Company operates from its 60,000 Sq Ft Factory in Salford Quays which was purpose built in year Product Development... The Company is continually updating its products to comply with changing energy saving technologies, so the introduction of the AHPHX Compact Range of air handling units is based on changes in specific Fan power and heat recovery legislation adopting higher energy saving technology. Compliance... The AHPHX air handling units comply with BS EN 1886 Class L2 Construction Standards. Air handling unit construction and ErP European Directive 2018 for energy recovery efficiencies. Acoustic Performance... Extensive acoustic testing of casework construction has been carried out at both the companies testing facilities, and Salford University Acoustic Testing Laboratory. Acoustic tests were carried out on twenty double skin, composite panel/frame systems, eight different triple and quadruple skin composite panel/frame systems, to BS. EN ISO (2010) which have all been certified as UKAS accredited Acoustic Testing Laboratory College of Science & Technology 2

3 Location Bag Filters AHPHX Compact Package Heat Reclaim Air Handling Units are normally located internally in plantrooms, external to the building or on the roof. Construction Frame Insulated extruded anodised aluminium pentapost sections with solid die cast mechanical fit corners are used to build each frame. The frame is acoustically insulated to prevent noise leakage. Panels Panels are flush fitted into the frame and air sealed with neoprene gaskets. A range of acoustically insulated panels are available to meet the sound reduction required in the space. Access Panels All access panels will be flush mounted in the frame, and constructed as the fixed panels. Fan and control panel access panels will be lockable. Quick release, other access panels will have multi directional handles. Heat Recovery AHPHX Units utilise a diagonal cross flow plate heat exchanger having sealed shaped plates, giving energy recovery efficiencies of up to 85%. Standard plate heat exchangers are constructed from aluminium, but ant-corrosive coatings are available for coastal or aggresive atmospheres. Please contact our sales office for further details. Face and bypass dampers, actuator operated, offer a summer by pass facility. Plate heat exchangers used in the AHPHX air handling unit range are eurovent certified,and out performs Erp 2018 Eco directive 2009/125/EC. Filters Filters are fitted to both the fresh air and return air inlets. G4 grade panel filters are used as standard. Disposable multi pocket bag filters can be offered as an alternative or secondary filter with grades F5, F6, F7 available. Manometers or pressure differential guages factory fitted are available as an option. Heating Coil Low temperature hot water heating coils are contained within the casework on slide rails for the ease of removal. Coils are constructed as standard from copper tubes and headers with aluminium fins. Optional coil construction: Bare tube (frost coils) Wide spaced fins (frost coils) Polyester coated fins. Blygold coated fins. Copper fins. HTM 03 compliant coils. Cooling Coil Options Cooling coil options are available to offer mechanical cooling, direct expansion or chilled water coils constructed from copper tubes and headers with aluminium fins as standard. Optional coil construction: Polyester coated aluminium fins. Blygold coated fins. Copper fins. Copper fins electro tinned. HTM -03 Compliant. Drain trays are fitted to cooling coils and can be fixed or removable, all drain trays have a inbuilt slope. Electric Heaters Cooling Coil Manufactured with sheathed elements, and fitted with a high temperature cut out. Balanced phase elements are arranged for thyristor or step control. 3

4 Motors operate via a 0-10V DC output from the motor, it provides infinitely variable speed control. Backward curved scroll free fans are quiet running with optimised airflow through the impeller, giving significantly reduced tonal noise. Dampers Fans Electric Heater All dampers are constructed from an aerofoil section double skin aluminium blade profile with edge, blade and side seals to offer low leakage. The blade rotation is performed by rigid nylon cogs which operate out of Air Stream. The damper operating mechanism is connected to an optional factory fitted and pre-wired actuator via a square brass drive shaft. Thermal Insulated Dampers Thermally insulated blades can be provided for fresh air and exhaust air shut off dampers which add protection to filters and coil freezing. Thermal Insulated Dampers AHPHX Compact air handling units have supply and return air backward curved centrifugal plug type fans, direct driven by high efficiency EC motors. This method of scroll free fan produces an optimal low loss flow of air through the impeller so there are no longer any drastic cross sectional changes. Multi fan wall arrangements are used to achieve higher air flow performance and efficiency. Fan Inlet Flow grids By fitting an inlet flow grid to the supply fan it is possible to achieve significant noise reduction from the fan. The noise reduction is predominantly low frequency decay (i.e. 63Hz, 125Hz, 250Hz), which can help offer significant sound power loss. This sound power loss is created by the reduction in turbulence hitting the rotating blades, with tonal frequency components, known as impellor noise or tonal noise. Tonal noise consists of the blade passing noise and its harmonics. The frequency of the blade passing noise can be calculated as the sum of the fan speed and the number of blades. A flow-grid fitted to the inlet of the fans will significantly reduce the low frequency noise generated disturbance. The vortex is split when impacting the grille as it is considerably weakened when it flows through the flowgrid. Sound pressure is reduced, particularly the low frequency. 5 Baseframes Casework Class Formed 2.5mm galvanised steel baseframes are fitted to all AHPHX Compact air handling units, a standard height of 100mm is included, but optional increased height baseframes are available on request. In the case of HTM - 03 and healthcare projects, the baseframe will be as laid down in the specifications. All baseframes incorporate lifting points in built into the baseframe and designed to suit the specific lifting weight of the air handling unit. Lifting instructions and method statement for securing lifting equipment are issued with OEM information on delivery. Controls AHPHX Compact air handling units can be supplied with an optional in built controls package with weatherproof options. Standard Control Package This option includes for the control panel to be built into the air handling unit casework or mounted directly onto it. All internal components will be pre-wired with isolators, actuators, sensors, thermostats, pressure switches all factory fitted. The control system will incorporate a controller which contains features to act independent or with BMS. Modbus or BACnet facility. Display features can be provided on the controller. The control package includes speed controllers built into the controller to speed regulate the E C fans. Control system options: Trend, Carel or similar controller. Output facility to operate remote condensing unit(s) or heat pump unit(s). Output to operate a thyristor controller (additional) for electric heater 0 < 10 Volt temperature regulation. 7 Certification All acoustic SRI tests are certified by Salford University Test Laboratories to BS EN ISO (2010) Report No s 1429 & Accreditation In partnership with Salford University acoustic testing laboratory a range of composite acoustic panels have been designed and tested. To obtain the true casework noise breakout, the frame and panel assembly have to be tested with a large enough area sample to give a true representation of AHPHX Compact casework. In practice the framework can leak sound which will flank the panels. Therefore the frame must be acoustically insulated to the same standard as the panels. 8 Type AHPHX Compact air handling units are double stacked in configuration, and can contain different components which are described in their individual type and make up of components. The performance charts will relate to the type of AHPHX Compact unit components make up, which allows for individual components maximum pressure drops. 47 Attenuation All attenuators are provided to match the AHPHX Compact unit and can be supplied as an integral or bolt on arrangement. This is recommended to prevent noise flanking the attenuators, or the need to acoustic lag the ductwork. If the attenuators are positioned away from the noise source (i.e. AHPHX Compact), then duct noise breakout will occur, unless the duct is acoustically lagged to the same high standard, as the AHPHX Casework. Attenuator Performance Insertion losses for different attenuator lengths serving atmospheric and system side, for both integral or bolt on style. Option 1 Splitter absorbers inbuilt into the AHPHX Compact unit Casework which provides a uniform casework appearance, as shown on Figures 2 and 3 on page 47. Option 2 Duct style attenuators with bolt on arrangement as shown below. The splitter absorbers are contained within a galvanized flanged sheet steel duct. Purpose designed bolt on type attenuators have mezz or dolby flanges to match the air handling unit frames, and can have optional inlet/outlet fairings. 47

50 Acoustic Louvre As an option to attenuators or attenuator cowls on the air intake and discharge of external AHPHX air handling units, acoustic louvres can be used as an alternative method of reducing the atmospheric side air noise. Four different depths are available with the noise reduction, dimensions and weights as shown on pages 51 and 52.
