3 Pump Drive Selection Procedure FUNK PUMP DRIVE FAMILY The performance and reliability of a hydraulic pump drive is directly related to proper selection of the drive best suited for its intended use. The three major considerations are: 1. Pump adaptation 2. Power distribution and 3. Engine adaptation. In addition to these, which essentially allow the prime mover, pump drive, and hydraulic pumps to become packaged in the desired manner, three factors must be addressed: 4. Required service life, 5. Duty cycle, and 6. Unique operating conditions. The following data is necessary for proper selection: 1. PUMP ADAPTATION 3. ENGINE ADAPTATION a. Pump(s) mounting (size, type, and a. Clutch driven orientation) Clutch size and type b. Pump(s) input shaft (size and type) Clutch s maximum permissible operating speed c. Pump(s) plumbing accessibility Clutch s maximum permissible working torque 2. POWER DISTRIBUTION a. Number of driven pumps b. Maximum input torque to one pump c. Maximum input speed to pump(s) d. Maximum input torque to pump drive e. Maximum input speed to pump drive Flywheel housing size Flywheel mounting dimensions b. REQUIRED SERVICE LIFE After the pump drive application has been reviewed, considering the factors outlined on page 4, follow the procedure below: 1. Determine the net power (hp or kw) from the prime mover transmitted to the pump drive which will be required to drive the pumps. 2. Determine equivalent power (hp or kw). Establish service factor corresponding to load class and prime mover using Table 1, Service Factors, page 56, as a guide. For service factors other than 1, multiply transmitted horsepower (hp or kw) by service factor to obtain equivalent power (hp or kw). 3. After the equivalent power (hp or kw) is determined, choose the hydraulic pump drive series from the selections on page Knowing the pump drive series and the number of pumps driven, refer to the installation drawing for the model selected and determine if the hydraulic pumps will mount on the drive, taking into consideration pump flange size and center distances of pump drive mounting pads. 5. Select the input configuration: a. Engine mount direct driven b. Remote mount c. Engine mount clutch driven Refer to pages succeeding pump drive model and select options for the engine attachment. 6. If gear drive model, select the gear ratio desired from choices shown. 7. Select the output configuration: a. Pump adapter plates at each pump location b. Pump shaft adapter sleeve, if required c. Output drive shaft PTO 8. After the pump drive has been chosen, refer to page 56, and carefully review the service factors with your Funk representative before placing your order. 5. DUTY CYCLE 6. 27 SAE Engine Flywheel Housing Standards SAE ENGINE FLYWHEEL STANDARDS mm (in) CONSTRUCTION AND INDUSTRIAL EQUIPMENT Scope This SAE standard defines flywheel housing and mating flange configuration for industry standardization, interchangeability, and compatibility. Dimensions and tolerances shown are millimeter (inch). The table and drawing below give dimensions for flywheel housings. The drawing also shows spacing for 8-, 12-, and 16-bolt flange mounting patterns. Mating Housing Flanges The capscrew holes on the mating housing flanges shall be 1.19 (0.047) larger than the nominal diameter of the capscrews used on the flywheel housing. The diameter of the pilot on the flange of the mating housing shall be the same as the nominal diameter of the bore in the flywheel housing: The tolerances shall be and (0.005), and the maximum eccentricity shall be (0.0025) [indicated runout 0.13 (0.005)]. The mating housing flange pilot diameter shall be 6.4 (0.25) long, and its lead-in chamfer shall not exceed 2.0 (0.08) in length. The fillet radius between the mounting flange face and the pilot diameter shall not exceed 1.0 (0.04) R. It is necessary that the unit selected have a capacity equal to or in excess of this equivalent horsepower. The recommended service factors for various load classifications and duration of service are shown for several types of prime movers in Table 1, shown above. Service factors represent the normal relationship between the gear-design power rating and the continuous power requirements. Applications involving unusual or severe loading, or requiring a high degree of dependability, should be carefully reviewed with the manufacturer before a service factor is applied. IMPORTANT NOTICE Disregarding system torsional compatibility could cause damage to components in the drive train. At a minimum, system incompatibility could result in gear clatter at low speeds. The responsibility for ensuring that the torsional compatibility of the system is satisfactory rests with the assembler of the drive and driven equipment.
