2 FIREFIGHTING SYSTEM OVERVIEW Page PUMP 2 PUMP 6 PUMP 4 PUMP 5 PUMP 3 PUMP 1 Figure Fireboat 2 utilizes four engines and six fire pumps (Fig , -2) to generate its maximum 38,000 GPM flow. Distributing the pumping effort among four primary systems (designated RED, GREEN, BLUE, and WHITE) allows great flexibility for the delivery of water to various firefighting activities simultaneously. Because of the unique characteristics of the cycloidal drive units this high capacity pumping occurs without significant impact on the ability of Fireboat 2 to maneuver during pumping operations. The RED SYSTEM consists of the Port Pilot House Monitor, the Port Forward Boat Deck Monitor and the Port Forward Manifold. It is supplied by Fire Pump 2 (6500 GPM) which is clutched in off the Port Main Engine as needed. The RED SYSTEM is foam capable, normally using concentrate from the 3000 gallon port side foam tank. The concentrate is delivered to the system by Foam Pump 2 or 4, or both, to achieve the desired foam output.

3 Page The GREEN SYSTEM consists of the Starboard Pilot House Monitor, the Starboard Forward Boat Deck Monitor, and the Starboard Forward Manifold. It is the mirror image of the Red System to port. The GREEN SYSTEM is supplied by Fire Pump 1 (6500 GPM) which is clutched in off the Starboard Main Engine as needed. The GREEN SYSTEM is foam capable, normally using concentrate from the 3000 gallon starboard foam tank. The concentrate is delivered to the system by Foam Pump 1 or 3, or both, to achieve the desired foam output. NOTE Either the RED SYSTEM or the GREEN SYSTEM can use foam concentrate from either 3000 gallon tank. This allows either system to access the full 6000 gallon foam concentrate supply.

4 Page The BLUE SYSTEM includes the Bow Monitor, the Port and Starboard Aft Boat Deck Monitors, the Aft Deck Monitor, the Port and Starboard Underwharf Monitors, the Port and Starboard Aft Manifolds (Fig ), the Port and Starboard Hydrants (Fig ), and the Port and Starboard Eductors. Fire Pump 3 (5500 GPM), Pump 4 (5500 GPM), and Pump 5 (3500 GPM) feed directly into a common manifold in the Engine Room that then delivers water to the selected fire mains and monitors. Fire Pump 6 (3500 GPM) provides water to either the common manifold or to the WHITE SYSTEM, or both (see below). NOTE Manifolds have 4 outlets with slow acting, manually controlled butterfly valves. Hydrants have two 2 ½ outlets with fast acting, manually controlled ball valves. AFT MANIFOLD, STARBOARD SIDE HYDRANTS, PORT QUARTER Figure Figure 730-4

5 Page Fire Pumps 3 and 5 are driven by the Starboard Pump Engine. Pump 3 (5500 GPM) is mounted forward of the Starboard Pump Engine and is clutched in as needed. Pump 5 (3500 GPM) is mounted aft of the Starboard Pump Engine and is direct coupled to the Starboard Pump Engine. Fire Pumps 4 and 6 are driven by the Port Pump Engine. Pump 4 (5500 GPM) is mounted forward of the Port Pump Engine and is clutched in as needed. Pump 6 (3500 GPM) is mounted aft of the Port Pump Engine and is direct coupled to the Port Pump Engine. Fire Pump 6 (3500 GPM) supplies water directly to the WHITE SYSTEM when the Isolation/Crossover Valve (Valve 4C #6 ISOL ) is closed. The WHITE SYSTEM supplies the Port and Starboard Hydrants and the Port and Starboard Eductors. Foam can be delivered through a foam proportioner (Fig ) using concentrate from either foam Tank to the WHITE SYSTEM firemain serving both Hydrants. Foam Pump 4 (60 GPM) will supply enough concentrate for the two hydrants (total four 2 1/2 outlets) of the WHITE SYSTEM. If foam is introduced into the WHITE SYSTEM it will be discharged from the eductor outlets below the stern of Fireboat 2 if the eductor system is opened. 6 Page When the Isolation Valve (Valve 4C #6 ISOL, Fig ) above Pump #6 is open, Fire Pump 6 delivers water to the manifold common to the BLUE SYSTEM and Pumps 3, 4, and 5 can supply water to the WHITE SYSTEM.
