2 Section, functional description 2 A 1 3 A B he outstanding performance of this motor is the result of an original and patented design. he principal is to transmit force to the rotating shaft (2) by means of a pressurized column of oil (A) without any connecting rods, pistons, pads and pins. his oil column is contained by a telescopic cylinder (1) with a mechanical connection at the lips at each end, which seal against the spherical surfaces (3) of the cylinder-head (4) and the spherical surface of the rotating shaft (2). hese lips retain their circular cross section when stressed by the pressure so there is no alteration in the sealing geometry. he careful selection of materials and optimized design has minimized both friction and leakage. Another advantage of this design stems from the elimination of any connecting rods, the cylinder can only expand and retract linearly so there are no transverse components of the thrust. his means no oval wear on the moving parts and no side forces on the cylinder joints. A consequence of this unique design is a significant reduction in weight and overall size compared with other motors of the same capacity. iming is accomplished by means of a rotary valve (5) driven by the rotary valve driving shaft (8) that is connected to the rotating eccentric shaft (2). he rotary valve rotates between the rotary valve plate (6) and the reaction ring (7) which are fixed to the rotary valve housing. his timing system is also of a patented design being pressure balanced and self-compensating for the thermal expansion. he advantages of this type of timing system, combined with a revolutionary propulsion system, produces a motor with extremely high values of mechanical and volumetric efficiency. he torque output is smooth even at very low speed under high pressure, and the motor offers a high performance starting under load. Flushing procedure he motor case must be flushed when the continuous operating performances of the motor are inside the Continuous operating area with flushing (see Operating Diagrams from page 8 to page 15), in order to assure the minimum oil viscosity inside the motor case of 141 SUS (30 mm 2 /s), see page 7 Oil selection. 7 Oil selection RA /10.95 General notes More detailed information regarding the choice of fluid can be requested. For motor installation notes, please refer to page 32 of the catalog. In case of operation with HF fluids, the maximum performances must be reduced according to the information sheet CS 85. Please consult us. Operating viscosity range In order to obtain optimum efficiency and long life, we recommend that the operating viscosity be selected in the range of: v opt = Optimum operating viscosity SUS (30 50 mm 2 /s) he above must refer to the circuit temperature in closed circuits or to the tank temperature in open circuits, and at the same time to the oil temperature inside the motor case (drain temperature). Limits of viscosity range For extreme operating conditions, the following values apply. v min = 45 SUS (10 mm 2 /s) for short periods in emergency condition with a max. permissible drain oil temperature of 176 F (80 C) v min v max = 85 SUS (18 mm 2 /s) for continuous operation at reduced performance (torque and power) = 4635 SUS (1000 mm 2 /s) for short periods upon cold start Selection diagram For correct selection of the hydraulic fluid, it is assumed that the operating temperature within the circuit (closed circuits) or in the tank (open circuits) in relation to the ambient temperature is known. o reach the value of maximum continuous power, the operating viscosity should be within the recommended viscosity range (see diagram), considering the oil temperature in the circuit and inside the motor case (drain temperature). In the optimum operating viscosity range (v opt, shaded section), this corresponds to viscosity grades VG 46 or VG 68; therefore VG 68 should be selected. Important: he drain oil temperature is influenced by pressure and speed and is always higher than the circuit temperature or the tank temperature. At no point in the system, however, may the temperature be higher than 176 F (80 C). If it is not possible to keep within the above conditions because of extreme operating parameters or high ambient temperature, we suggest flushing the motor case. In addition, if the motor works inside the continuous operating area without flushing (see page 8 15), but the viscosity is outside the lower limit, flushing should be provided. Filtration he motor life also depends on the fluid filtration. It must correspond to one of the following cleanliness standards. Class 9 according to NAS 1638 Class 6 according to SAE, ASM, AIA Class 18/15 according to ISO/DIS 4406 In order to assure a longer life, a cleanliness class 8 to NAS 1638 is recommended. his can be achieved with a filter of ß 5 = 100. In case the above mentioned classes can not be achieved, please consult us. Case drain pressure he lower the speed and the case drain pressure, the longer the life of the shaft seal. he maximum permissible housing pressure is p max = 72 PSI (5 bar) In instances of a case drain pressure higher than 72 PSI (5 bar), it is possible to use a special 217 PSI (15 bar) shaft seal (Code F, see page 4). 100 FPM seals In case of operating conditions with high oil temperature or high ambient temperature, we recommend the use of FPM seals (Code V, see page 4). hese FPM seals should be used with HFD-R fluids.
