10 Technical inf s Installatin AS4-998 Wrking definitins: Trque The energy taken t twist the nut up the thread f the blt (Measured in Nm). Trque is nt used as a measure fr the tensining f structural blting. trque values are nt shwn in AS4. Mathematically, trque can be defined as: Snug-tight can be achieved by a few impacts f an impact wrench r by the full effrt f a persn using a standard pdger spanner. Crrect blt tensin is required t ensure effective lad transmissin n the jint. Effective lad transmissin will nt be achieved if a gap between the steel plates remains, which can ccur if there is defrmatin frm welding. Tightening pattern Snug-tightening and final tensining f the blts in a cnnectin shall prceed frm the stiffest part f the cnnectin twards the free edges. An example interpretatin f a systematic pattern fr tightening is prvided: Tensin The frce generated in the blt t clamp the steel plies tgether (Measured in ). Re-use f structural assemblies Under n circumstances can a structural blt which has been fully tensined (i.e. the minimum values shwn abve) be re-used.
