2 About TOYOTA GAZOO Racing In 2015, Toyota consolidated its motorsport activities under the name TOYOTA GAZOO Racing. Participation by Toyota teams in the 24 Hours of Le Mans and the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) will also become challenges competed under the banner of TOYOTA GAZOO Racing. The spirit of TOYOTA GAZOO Racing is not merely to try to win motorsport events. It is a spirit that also includes the goals of creating ever-better vehicles and car fans. Toyota believes that roads can develop people and cars, by bringing cars to the limit in the extreme environment of racing, where one never knows what will happen. There we can develop our people and therefore create ever-better cars. By creating car fans, our teams show their best in races and rallies to bring joy and inspire and love cars more. In 2016 World Endurance Championship under TOYOTA GAZOO Racing banner, we will put all efforts for R&D improvements to bring joy and excitement and inspiration to many. 5 Interview: #5 Drivers Anthony Davidson Sébastien Buemi Kazuki Nakajima I actually had the possibility to be the first to drive the new car with the new engine and battery and this felt like an honor. It went as expected. I ve done many tests where you re testing new technologies and it s a lot of hard work to extract the full potential. The TS050 definitely has a lot of potential and we expect to be much more competitive than in The 8MJ hybrid system is a huge step forward. Before 2013 it was a personal ambition to stand on the podium at Le Mans. Now I have done that twice. I really want to win it. At this stage the target has to be to get the most out of our package and make no mistakes; then we ll see what result we can achieve. The car has definitely got good potential. It shows that we ve done a good job so far but we can obviously still improve a lot. The new car is definitely a strong evolution. I think our chassis has always been quite competitive and we ve tried to make it even better. It s a good car and I like to drive it; now I want to see how it performs in race conditions. Our main objective is obviously to fight for the win at Le Mans, that s for everyone in the team the main target. We want to be the manufacturer who is on the top of the podium after this long day. After the first few races we will know what s really possible in Le Mans. I could strongly feel the performance improvement when I drove the TS050 HYBRID for the first time because of new turbocharged engine and 8MJ hybrid system. It is our strong point. We experienced some small issues during tests, as normal with a new car, but we overcame them and now I feel the car is ready to race. I am surprised by the improvements to the car especially in terms of drivability so I would like to thank the all engineers and mechanics who worked so hard during winter. The new powertrain is great. The TS050 HYBRID is a car to suit for Le Mans because it has less drag combined with a higher speed in comparison with last year s car. I believe our goal to win Le Mans will be in our sights. 8 9

7 Interview: #6 Drivers Stéphane Sarrazin Mike Conway Kamui Kobayashi The new car is definitely a good step forward. The 8MJ hybrid system itself is really incredible, really strong, and this is a very good point for us. I definitely like the new livery and our new colours, for us this is something new and the car looks really good this season. I want to win Le Mans; that is a real ambition for me. We need to prepare in the best way and get more performance out of the car. We made a good start with testing, and we can see some big improvements, but we have to keep this going to be in the fight at Le Mans. It is always a special occasion and I feel really privileged to compete again at Le Mans. I hope we can fight at the front. Regarding the new TS050, it s a big step to move up to the 8MJ hybrid class, which combined with the new battery feels really impressive. It s a good feeling to drive with this new powertrain. But still another thing is making sure that we can be competitive aero wise and be fuel efficient. My first impression of the TS050 is therefore very positive. I like as well the new livery, it s cool to have a whole new package also visually. Of course, my dream is to one day win Le Mans, but this year it is too soon to say exactly what to expect. I hope that our hard work over the winter will translate into a very competitive car and we can push for the podium or even more at Le Mans, but let s wait and see. The TS050 HYBRID has a lot of potential, especially with the 8MJ hybrid system. It gives me great confidence. Added to this 8MJ of hybrid energy, having the turbo engine helps to improve the total performance and it is our big advantage. I felt the improvement of aerodynamics I find it is easier to drive than last year s car. Keeping the same level of downforce combined with less drag gives high speed and shows that the development was focused on Le Mans. However there is still space to improve and I am very much expecting that. Personally I like driving in the dark so I am really looking forward to racing at Le Mans, especially in the night

8 Again this year, Toyota takes on the challenge of the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) including the 24 Hours of Le Mans. The Le Mans race and the WEC, which have continued to evolve along with the history of the automobile, has now become an ultimate testing ground for hybrid cars. Toyota made the decision to compete in the Le Mans and WEC with hybrid cars as a path to further strengthen the efficiency and power output of the hybrid system of its Prius, which has become the world standard. In 2012, Toyota returned to the 24 Hours of Le Mans for the first time in 13 years, entering the TS030 HYBRID mounting the TOYOTA HYBRID System - Racing (THS-R). With the TS030 HYBRID, Toyota faced tough competition against the latest hybrid racing cars of the world s leading automobile manufacturers. Particularly at Le Mans, the hybrid system has to run at the limits of its performance potential for the full 24 hours in order to beat the competition. The competition was tough, but through it Toyota continued to refine and strengthen its car and the hybrid system, and with the TS040 HYBRID introduced in 2014, we finally succeeded in winning the WEC series title. It was an accolade that meant Toyota had reached the pinnacle of hybrid racing car performance. However, there was still something that Toyota needed to achieve: the overall win at the first round of the series, the legendary 24 Hours of Le Mans. This season, Toyota enters the series with the totally redesigned and engineered new model TS050 HYBRID. Our objective is to win back the WEC season title and take the overall win in the 24 Hours of Le Mans. 14 Why Toyota competes in the FIA World Endurance Championship(WEC) with Hybrid machines. 15

9 History of TOYOTA HYBRID System - Racing (THS-R) The TOYOTA HYBRID System (THS) was born to enable Toyota s hybrid system as a core technology, and later evolved into the THS-II for the 2nd-gerneration Prius, it has become a more efficient next-generation hybrid system with higher output, plus the added appeal of the driving enjoyment that we believe every passenger car should offer. The TS050 HYBRID that will compete in this season s 24 Hours of Le Mans and WEC series also mounts the race version of the THS/THS- II that we designate THS-R (TOYOTA HYBRID System Racing). The THS-R system that Toyota first took to the race arena in 2012 is in every sense a further developed version of the THS system in the Prius. However, on the racetrack it is necessary to recover the power from the deceleration energy created by hard braking of a car that runs at speeds of over 300 km/hr and then regenerate it into power for acceleration via the electric motor at very short intervals throughout the race. To achieve this kind of continued performance at the limits to enable us to compete with our rivals in lap times where a few tenths of a second determine the winner, indeed required a long process of trial and error. From the TS030 HYBRID onward, the THS-R was coupled to a naturally aspirated V-8 engine with a capacitor which is a different type of electricity storage device from the production model Prius. This was a measure to accommodate the rapid charging and discharging of electricity necessary in racing. However, the completely redesigned 2016 model TS050 HYBRID adopts a newly developed 2.4 liters directinjection twin turbo V6 engine, and a newly developed THS-R coupled with a hisgh powered lithium-ion battery that can maintain the same long discharge potential as the production model. This TS050 HYBRID is a machine reborn with revised characteristics aimed at finally achieving the goal of winning the coveted 24 Hours of Le Mans

10 About WEC The current FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) was launched in 2012 and now enters its fifth year. It is a world championship series held under the direction of the same Federation Internationale de l'automobile (FIA) that organizes the F1, WRC, WTCC and World RX championships. The WEC series is organized through the cooperation of FIA and the Automobile Club de l'ouest (AOC) that organizes the 24 Hours of Le Mans race. This race traces its history of back to the sports car endurance race begun here in 1953, and after numerous changes, it became a world championship race in For two years from 2010 it became an extension of the International Le Mans Cup (ILMC) organized by ACO and continues in that format today. The competing machines are classified mainly into prototype sports cars and Grand Touring (GT) cars that compete in four classes LMP1 and LMP2 for prototype sports cars and LMGTE-Pro and LMGTE-Am for GT cars and all run together in the same race. In the LMP1 class, the manufacturers must compete this endurance race with hybrid cars equiped the latest technologies WEC schedule In the 2016 season, one more round has been added to the former 8-round series to make it a series of nine rounds competed in nine countries. The new round will be in Mexico (Round 5), with the opening round held at Silverstone in the UK in April, followed by rounds in Europe, the Americas and Asia before the final round at the Bahrain International Circuit (Bahrain) in November. Since the 2012 series, the Japan round is held in October at Fuji Speedway. With the exception of the Le Mans race, each round is a 6-hour race and Drivers and Manufacturers championship titles are awarded for the car manufacturers developing the machines in the Prototype and GT categories, and titles are awarded in each of the classes.
