1 PORSCHE PAGES Newsletter of the Southern Indiana Region / PCA July 2011 Prez Page Greetings Porsche enthusiasts, June was an active month for us. There was plenty of opportunity to do something Porsche and SIR. For one, we had a great drive to French Lick and lunch in the Café at Sinclairs. I think there were about 25 of us for lunch. The roads thru the Hoosier National Forest north of I-64 are a great drive, although there was a Toyota Echo with about a dozen Porsches lined up behind it waiting for a pass at one point. I was the lead car and noticed there was some significant looking up at the rear view mirror going on in that Toyota! We also had our Picnic at Audubon Park. Criss Yelton took care of the details and was the grill master. Plenty of food for an army! Fortunately the weather was in our favor for that few hours and it didn t rain. Tom Michelson was particularly optimistic and drove his 74 Targa and left the Targa top at home. Now that is confident! We had talked about driving it in under the shelter if the showers did come, but never needed to. Also, during the month, there were several of our members who participated in a DE track event at Putnam Park between Indy and Terre Haute. There were a few of us who went up to observe on Saturday. Mike Fox and Jerry Jindrich got out for some touring laps at lunch break and finished with grins. Putnam Park is a nice track and there were a lot of nice cars there.

1st Sat parking lot get together Since it is about the first of the month again, I must remind everyone to come out on Sat., July 2nd for our 1 st Sat gathering at the Donut Bank across from D-Pat.

This is such an easy thing to do with your Porsche. We start to show up at 9am and stay for as long as you like. It is very casual, to have a donut and some coffee and talk cars. Get your Porsche out see us there. Important club business for July We will be having a member meeting this month on Tues., July 19 th at 6:30pm. The meeting will be held at the D-Pat showroom and Tony Ricketts has offered to supply us some food for our meeting. D-Pat has been very good to us! At the meeting we will have the opportunity to review and vote on updated Bylaws for SIR. The Bylaws have not been reviewed since the club started 10 years or so ago and this is one of the necessary duties of the officers that allows the club to continue and move forward.

4 When I was in Chicago for a Zone 13 presidents meeting there was much good discussion about the other regions in our zone and some of their challenges. Many of the regions in our zone offered us there Bylaws to review and use as a model for reviewing ours. Some of the other regions in our zone are very large; some are very active with their membership. After receiving copies, I worked at capturing the best portions of these Bylaws and together with the input of all our Directors have assembled Bylaws that we are presenting to our membership. In the week before the July 19 th meeting I will send out a copy to all our SIR members for review on their own. At the meeting we will have a chance to clarify any of the Bylaws and then take a vote. It will take a majority vote of members of record to pass the new Bylaws. It is important to vote. Not voting is the same as voting NO. We need every ones vote! Be watching for follow up info on the Bylaws. After the business part of the meeting is done, Greg Collins has video from a camera in his car and will be able to show and describe a track experience from inside the car. These are always fun to watch particularly when you have the driver to describe what was happening from behind the wheel. Other dates The River Drive event planned for July 23 will be postponed and rescheduled for a later date. The Keeneland Concours on 7/16 is not a listed SIR event but is worth noting for all car enthusiasts. This month s events July 2nd, 9am Donut River - 1st Saturday Cars and Coffee - Start your Saturday off right with SIR/Porsche friends. You ll have a good time! July 16 th Keeneland Concours in Lexington Ky. A great Concours event with an outstanding showing of Porsches and a designated corral. Alfa Romeo is the featured marque this year. July 19 th Member meeting at D-Pat. Vote on Bylaws, Food, Putnam Park track video by Greg Collins.

5 2011 Calendar of Events First Saturday Cars and Coffee This will be a standing get-together for the 1 st Sat every month. Meet at the Donut Bank across Green River Rd from D-Pat at 9am. There will be no planned agenda except just to get your car out and meet some other Porsche friends. This has proven popular in other cities with other regions. We think it will be for us also. Aug 6 Jasper Strassenfest CIR, Central Indiana Region will be there too. We are looking at the possibility to meet them at the Schnitzelbank for some great German food and display of cars. Actually, I didn't pay any attention to the speedometer. I just tried to be quick and smooth. It wasn't hard to see the line most drivers used through the turns. I was surprised once by a change in elevation in one of the turns. The rapid transitions reminded me of our hilly and twisting ride on the way to French Lick, which was great fun. On the track, however, I didn't have to watch for deer, farm equipment or small Toyotas suddenly appearing around the next bend. The lap ended without me doing anything embarrassing or stupid but I clearly felt a desire and a mental challenge to do it again only faster. I had been so eager to see the track from a drivers' point of view that I had not thought of asking Susan to take pictures while we went around, so I guess there will have to be a next time. I wonder if she can operate a stopwatch and take pictures at the same time?

8 PCNA Team to Report the Sights and Sounds from Germany s Nürburgring ATLANTA June 8, 2011 Porsche Cars North America is entering a 911 GT3 Cup racecar and dispatching six employees to the inaugural Porsche Carrera World Cup race, which is held during the same weekend as the 39th ADAC 24 Hours of Nürburgring Race in Germany, June 25, The team will document and share all the off and on-track excitement on the "The Hub", Porsche Cars North America s new social media press site. Held prior to the start of the 39th ADAC 24 Hour Race, the Porsche Carrera World Cup will pit up to 200 competitors and their Porsche 911 GT3 Cup racers against each other and the Nürburgring Nordschleife. When American Le Mans Series (ALMS) GTC Champion Melanie Snow joins the other Porsche 911 GT3 Cup racers on the starting grid at 10:30 am local time, at Germany s legendary Nürburgring on June 25, she ll not only have a unique ground support crew; she is slated to be the only female racer to compete in the Carrera World Cup. The Porsche employee team, selected from submitted video and written essays detailing their motorsports passion, will be on hand to capture and share the insider s view on what it takes to compete internationally, what it feels and sounds like from the driver s seat and who s who in the world of Porsche motorsports. PCNA employees were also involved in selecting the racing livery, with the winning design designed in-house. The mile race is six complete laps of 15.5 miles each with nearly 200,000 spectators expected. The Porsche Carrera World Cup includes drivers from Porsche s 18 brand trophy and challenge series worldwide and this race also counts as a competition round towards several other championships, including the Porsche Carrera Cups in Germany, Scandinavia, France and Italy. 911 GT3 R Hybrid 2.0 Following the Porsche Carrera World Cup race, Porsche takes on the Nürburgring 24-hour race with the latestgeneration 911 GT3 R Hybrid. Version 2.0 features a flywheel accumulator hybrid system that is 20 percent lighter than last year; a weight saving that targets the same lap times as its predecessor, but with even less fuel consumption, resulting in fewer pit stops for fuel. The general layout of the hybrid engine remains the same; however, the output of the electric motors increases from 60 to 75 kilowatts each, or from approximately 80 to 100 horsepower per motor. Driving the 911 GT3 R Hybrid 2.0, will be Patrick Long (USA), Richard Lietz (AUS) and Marco Holzer (GER). The trio claimed the first win for the 911 GT3 R Hybrid 2.0 at the VLN 4-hour Nürburgring Long Distance Championship on May 30. To show their enthusiasm for Porsche motorsports, racing fans can order t-shirts, including a shirt with Melanie Snow s motto Some Girls Chase Boys, I Pass Them, hats and a special edition limited run die-cast model of her 911 GT3 Cup car will be available at later this month. In addition to featuring photos and videos posted by the on-site Porsche employee team, The Hub will also serve as a Porsche motorsports history destination, including historic racing images from Porsche archives and Porsche motorsports milestones.
