The questions on your assessment will be different from these but will be presented in the same format as these questions. Following the questions are load charts and jib rating charts. We have not included all of the charts for this crane - but everything you need to answer the questions is included in the load and jib charts you have here. You do not need the crane manual or full load chart package to answer the questions. Following the load charts are rigging tables - use these to help answer the rigging questions included in the practice questions. These same rigging charts will be used in your assessment so it is a good idea to become familiar with them. Attached to the back of this practice exercise is an answer sheet. The answer sheet explains how we arrived at the correct answer and you can use this to help work through any questions you may have gotten wrong. The crane industry in BC has stated that operators must get a minimum of seven out of ten questions right on the load chart and rigging part of the assessment to be competent. The user must limit or de-rate rated loads to allow for adverse conditions (such as soft or uneven ground, out-of-level conditions, wind, side loads, pendulum action, jerking or sudden stopping of loads, inexperience of personnel, multiple machine lifts, and traveling with a load). 2. loads do not exceed 75% of minimum tipping loads. loads based on factors other than machine stability such as structural competence are shown by asterisk * in the charts. 3. Their total weight must be subtracted from the rated load to obtain the weight that can be lifted. 7. When lifting over boom point with jib or auxiliary sheave, rated loads for the boom must be deducted as shown below. The total load that can be lifted by the auxiliary sheave is: the rated load for the boom (without auxiliary sheave installed) minus 1,250 lbs; however, the auxiliary sheave rated load should not exceed 59,000 lbs. 11. lengths that can attach auxiliary sheave are from 50 ft (15.2 m) to 240 ft (73.2 m). 12. The boom should be erected over the front of the crawlers, not laterally. Hand signals for hoist and crane operations If hand signals are used between a signaller and the operator of a crane or hoist to control hoisting operations, the following signals should be used: STOP HOIST LOWER Arm extended, palm down, move hand horizontal.
